EA Sports definitely has a lot of strokes to make up when it releases Tiger Woods 2003 this November if it has any hope of cutting into the massive lead that Microsoft has just carved out for itself. As for now however, Links 2003 is in a league by itself.
Links is a killer offering of the normal. It fails to do a lot, leaving the genre's wish list neglected, but it does do enough. Golfers and gamers should pay it attention and buy it if not only to expand the genre and lend it more credibility. How it stands against Tiger 2003 is undetermined, but from what I've seen of that beta and this final, either or both would be excellent choices for those captivated by balls and poles and the need to combine the two into a competitive sport... Dan?
What does it all come down to? That's hard to explain. Either you love golf or you hate it, that's something you have to figure out for yourself. It's not a spectator sport; a stroll around the links is something that has to be experienced. For anyone who even remotely likes golf, either in reality or on their computers, you should give Links 2003 a shot. The realism of golf games is being pushed further than it has ever gone, and the time has come to check it out.

Links 2003 seems to lack flair, and it may not be satisfying for virtual golfers who want to enjoy an in-game career as the next Tiger Woods. But the game does have numerous upgrades, superb ball physics, and deep gameplay options.

Links 2003 se révèle être une très bonne surprise. On est vite pris dans le jeu, les tournois s’enchaînent et on prend réellement du plaisir à jouer. Il est certain que les fans d’action peuvent passer leur chemin. Mais les personnes qui ont envie de changer de style de jeu, de jouer pour se relaxer et s’amuser, peuvent se plonger dans cet excellent opus digne représentant de la lignée des Links.

All in all, Links 2003 will not disappoint. It's a very easy to grasp golf game and it continues to set the standard for photo-realism. In action, however, Links 2003 tends to fall in on the slow side, technically and during play. Oddities, like the inability to use the two best features of the game together (dynamic camera and real-time golf swing) is a little disturbing.
With a genre that has so many games it is hard for one to stand out in the pack. We can say confidently that Links 2003 is one that has managed to do this by offering players differing styles of play, a fantastic physics model and wonderful graphics. Couple this with a comprehensive course designer and online tournaments and this is a worthy addition to the series, and well worth your hard earned dosh even if you have the last version.
The redraw rate is the biggest flaw of this title, which is very unfortunate as the rest of the package is superbly done and has more depth than the most vicious bunker. I really got into the career mode and even started an email match with some poor soul who got on their own after a few holes. But I just got too annoyed that a simple golf game slowed my system down so much. Now I could have played it in 800x600, but if I wanted to do that I'd buy a console. Then again, I have played it some more, and even with the slow times it is a very good game to dip into for an hour or so, and will get dug-up for another try if I can ever afford a new graphics card. And it does come with the added thrill of scouring the internet to try to attach a name to the very competitive folk on the cover.

This game is options rich, and overall a nice package. That stability problems plague parts of the game is unfortunate because it knocks a birdie round of golf down into merely a par round – which isn’t bad, unless you are in competition with other top-flight entries in the genre.
All things considered, if you're a fan of Links, 2003 offers a very nice update to your favourite golf title. Indeed, even if you're not, this is unquestionably the most realistic golf simulation ever offered on any platform, but the question you need to ask yourself is, is that enough for me? After a few hours we found ourselves longing to be playing Tiger Woods on the PS2 once again, with its remarkable production values and attention to detail. The results it produces may not be quite so precisely correct, but it's a lot more 'fun'. Links 2003 is a postcard from the game engine revamp Links 2004 will hopefully deliver. If it does, it will be unstoppable. Until then, it's same old same old.
Hopefully, the Links series is merely going through some transition period and 2003 represents some unruly or awkward growth spurt. I can’t recommend this game to anyone other than true fans of the sport or this particular franchise. The new courses are fun the first few times but that’s about all you can take away from this release. Wait for it to hit the budget bins and your dollar will be better spent.
