Lock N Chase is highly recommended for Intellivision fans looking for some arcade action.
IntellivisionElectronic Fun with Computers & Games (Dec, 1982)
Disregard the misleading title of this game. Stripped of its cops-chasing-a-bandit theme, Lock 'N' Chase is Mattel's version of Atari's mega-hit Pac-Man— and they've created what appears to be a sure winner.
Atari 2600The Atari Times (Sep 13, 2005)
All in all, Lock 'N' Chase is a respectable maze game. I don't enjoy it as much as Atari's Ms. Pac-Man or Coleco's Mouse Trap, but it's a very solid title which is far superior to the Pac-Man port for the 2600. The game is pretty common, too, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding a copy.
IntellivisionRetro Game Reviews (May 23, 2015)
Lock 'n' Chase is an excellent example of a developer using the Pac-Man template and then adding some unique features to enhance the gameplay. While the Intellivision controller is an unavoidable issue the rest of the experience is top notch and the arcade action is perfect for high score chasers.
Atari 2600Atari HQ (2000)
Despite its many shortcomings, Lock 'N' Chase is an addicting game. If you were put off by the Intellivision's bad controls (and many of us were, no doubt), then go with this one. You won't get the great graphics, but the gameplay's all there... and isn't that what matters?
IntellivisionAll Game Guide (1998)
Lock 'N' Chase is a fun game. The graphics look good and the sounds match the on-screen action.
IntellivisionneXGam (Jul 27, 2012)
Atari 2600Game Freaks 365 (2000)
Like Pac-man, Lock 'N’ Chase has one maze that repeats endlessly, and like Pac-man, it also has icons that will appear for you to pick up (from two places) for extra points. One of the icons will make noise to tell you when it is there and one of them will not. The graphics and sound in this game are about on par with Pac-man other than the fact that I like the color scheme of this game better. Overall, if you are a Pac-man fan, you should be able to enjoy this game as well, as the two are alike in many ways.
PSPPSP Minis (Jun 19, 2010)
I think Lock N’ Chase is probably really for those that had an Intellivision growing up, instead of an Atari. Since Atari grabbed the Pac-Man rights (albeit with a flawed port to the 2600), Mattel chose this for their competing console (though ironically Atari would actually bring Pac-Man to Intellivision later). I also think that was a case of where the port was better than the arcade version. It’s not a bad game, but it’s not that remarkable, either.
IntellivisionTeleMatch (Jul, 1983)
Atari 2600The Video Game Critic (Jul 04, 2003)
Lock N Chase is always a challenge, even on the "easy" skill level, and I like how it "pauses" between lives. It may be a little slow and derivative, but give Lock N Chase a chance and it'll give you a run for your money.
Atari 2600Woodgrain Wonderland (May 30, 2017)
Lock ‘N’ Chase is just kind of blah. If you love maze games you’ll probably want to try it. Everyone else should just stick with Ms. Pac-Man, Jr. Pac-Man or even Alien.
