But these are all problems that are easy to look past. The game exudes a sense of innocence and charm that quickly sweeps away any frustrations, and leaves you whistling the theme song long after you put it down. It's simple, but the newly-added collecting and building elements make me eager to keep playing. Nintendo-like in its quirky, engaging fun, LocoRoco 2 should definitely be in your PSP library.

The main storyline isn't particularly long, but you'll get more than a few hours out of it, even if you just rush through each stage. However, there's a lot of stuff to find and unlock, and if you're willing to put in some effort in locating things, this one will give more than enough bang for your buck, especially considering it's priced at a very modest $20. I highly suggest picking this one up, the level design feels like a vast improvement over the original, so if you're in the same boat I was, in that the first one didn't really grab you, then maybe this one will. It's certainly managed to eat up quite a bit of my time, and will continue to do so.

Worth Playing
LocoRoco 2 isn't about competition, you versus you or versus the computer or versus anyone. It's about having fun with a game that's clearly exceptional in many aspects. A basic linear progression of LocoRoco 2 doesn't take all that long to complete. The game is enough to bring you back, but there are also special level mode triggers, an ad-hoc multiplayer mode, the hidden ending, unlockables galore, collectibles all over the place, and mini-games aplenty. There are enough mysteries to solve in each level that you'll probably miss things miss several times before finding them. You'll wind up playing through levels a couple of times past the point when you've unlocked everything — without even knowing there's nothing left to figure out — and it won't be a minute wasted.

For $25 you would have to be crazy to miss out on picking up LocoRoco 2. Hands down, LocoRoco 2 is one of the PSP best titles. Its quirky fun loving attitude is bound to put a smile on your face as you explore the wacky world of LocoRoco. Sony didn’t rush into pumping out a sequel and it shows. LocoRoco 2 is everything you’d expect out of a follow-up and more. Get bouncing and pick up LocoRoco 2 exclusively for the Playstation Portable.

To all PSP owners currently suffering through the handheld's unfortunate software drought: LocoRoco 2 is here to help quench your burning thirst - and damn, does it go down sweet!

IGN
It may not be nearly as deep as the first game in terms of levels, but LocoRoco 2 delivers the same kind of visual flair, solid gameplay and musical addictiveness that the first game had. By expanding on the number of mini-games and diversions, the game adds a ton of content to the series, and provides plenty of things to do for those players that feel a strong need to unlock everything within the title. Were it a bit longer, the game would be pretty close to perfect. However, considering the drought in PSP games, this is a quality title that proves that the PSP still has life left in it.

D+PAD Magazine
While not as great a progression as it could have been, LocoRoco 2 still manages to squash, bounce and squeeze its way into must-have territory, and is as pristine a slice of portable gaming as one could hope for. Visually arresting, a pleasure to play and an aural triumph (we dare you not to hum along to the soundtrack!), the love and attention that has been lavished on its production veritably oozes from the screen.

LocoRoco 2 isn’t better than the original and it’s certainly not worse. It’s more of the same, with a few tweaks here and there – and that’s just perfect in my books. I’m not sure whether the series has a third game in it, not without bringing something new to the table, however I wouldn’t say no to another ‘expansion’ a year or so from now either.

Darkstation
I haven’t been able to say this all that often with PSP titles, but LocoRoco 2 is really a great game. If you enjoyed the first, or are interested in getting into the series, then I would highly recommend checking this game out. Plus you can’t beat the $20 price point, that is some serious bang for your buck.

Digital Chumps
LocoRoco 2 is a fine sequel to an inspired original title. Fears of repetition and sameness have been calmed by a buffet of minigames and gameplay quirks, most all of which hit their mark. And, while not quite as fresh as it was in 2006, LocoRoco 2 retains and intensifies the distinct charm of its predecessor. Platforming as a genre has gone stagnant in recent years, and I'm always pleased to see such an earnest game trying to carry the torch. Kouno's brain definitely functions on an alternate plane of existence, and I for one couldn't be happier to stop by and visit from time to time. Not to mention that, after a barren holiday season, it's nice to see some quality software coming along for the PSP. Highly recommended.

Hooked Gamers
Whether you want to believe it or not, LocoRoco 2 is a contender for game of the year on the PSP. The game’s quirky style bundled with the addictive gameplay and excellent soundtrack is amazing, and the replay value is through the roof. The route that Sony took when developing this title was very wise, and in the end, everything paid off. What you are getting is essentially an artistic masterpiece with some of the most unique gameplay across any platform. With a price tag of only $19.99, you owe it to yourself to pick the game up. Don’t you want our cute little LocoRocos to restore peace to their world and rid the land of the Moja?

GameFocus
LocoRoco 2 is a great continuation to the series and a game that most, if not all, PSP owners should have in their collection. Other than the minor gripe with the sensitive controls, there is a lot to love about this game. Thanks to the more balanced difficulty, it is highly unlikely that LocoRoco 2 cannot be enjoyed by players of varying skills. Some might be disappointed in the fact that not enough new content was added. It seems clear that Sony was looking to appealing to more gamers by giving everyone a favourable experience. They fixed the complaints of lack of variety and questionable difficulty and have given gamers a game that can be tackled in long plays or short-bursts.

All of this culminates into yet another enjoyable adventure for our favorite singing blobs of…whatever Loco Rocos are made of! Fans of the previous game should purchase this without hesitation. Anyone even remotely interested should also pick this up. The best part of all this? It’s a measly $20!

It is hard not to like LocoRoco 2. It relishes in a happy mood and does its best to spread the happiness to everyone that picks up the game. The game hasn't changed much since the last incarnation two years ago. There is no better game if you are feeling down or only have a few minutes to play. LocoRoco 2 is getting the ball rolling on the PSP this year.

"LocoRoco 2" é um jogo de poucas novidades e, na verdade, nem precisava de muitas. A mera repetição da fórmula original já seria mais do que suficiente para dar vida a um título absolutamente divertido e obrigatório para PSP. Ainda assim, o pessoal da Sony fez bonito e trouxe adições sutis que só tornam a experiência de "LocoRoco 2" ainda mais colorida e agradável.

Frictionless Insight
For me, it's the unusual combination of just-short-of-too-cute and sublimely surreal that intrigues me to the point of not putting down the PSP. My favorite moments in both this and the last game are the ones in which the LocoRoco venture through the innards of great beasts. In this case, by causing gastric distress, the LocoRoco cause a giant penguin to fall to the ground in agony, inverting the level and transforming the puzzle. What's truly amazing is that the game has me venturing around the squishy, cilia lined innards of a giant beast, and still wanting to say, "AWWWWwwwwwwww... that's adorable..."

LocoRoco 2 really does bring out your inner child and make you smile, without being a completely kiddie-style game. It's simple, addictive, easy to play in short or long sittings, and looks/sounds a treat. Whether you get it over PSN or on UMD, LocoRoco 2 is a game that's almost impossible to dislike..

GamingHeaven / DriverHeaven
LocoRoco 2 is a brilliant game to play and it is just as charming as its predecessor both in terms of graphical quality and addictive game play. The music is memorable and the developers clearly have a unique perspective on a virtual world which makes this title one of the best on the PSP platform. The only downside is the length of the game, which is basically half the size in level design with only a plethora of unlockable content and mini games to redeem it. If the game were in fact around 30% longer it would be almost perfect but as it stands it loses some points for the shortness of the mission based levels. Nonetheless, if you have a PSP then make sure you pick this title up as soon as possible.

If there's one PSP game you should be playing this Christmas it's LocoRoco 2. Any video game whose charm can intoxicate you more comprehensively than countless shots of Baileys should be considered both compulsive and essential.

LocoRoco 2, like the original is a joy to play, it’s colourful and cute graphics drag you in and its addictive gameplay keeps you playing. This is without doubt one of the PSP games of the year and deservedly so. If you own a PSP then you must own this game there is no question about that.

Negatives? Some will think the game too short, the gameplay repetitive and the experience too similar to the original to warrant forking out another £20, but those people are heartless grouches who no doubt spend their time scaring children and trampling on daisies. For everyone else, LocoRoco 2 is the most uplifting game available, not only on the title-shy PSP, but on any platform.

IGN Australia
LocoRoco 2 may not stray too far from the original, but it’s a fantastic and utterly charming piece of game design nonetheless. At least, it will be for many of you. Some will no doubt hate the ludicrously happy nature of everything about this game, from the simple expressive visuals with its minimal palette, through to the constant chipmunk soundtrack. Bad luck for you we say. If you’ve never played LocoRoco you owe it to yourself to check out one of the most original, stylish and just plain infectious platformers on PSP or any other system.

The Review Busters
For only $20, LocoRoco 2 is well worth the price. The puzzles and gameplay vary enough from level to level to keep you comming back for more. The Cost to Gameplay time ratio is certainly very high for this one. While the controls have remained delightfully similar to the first LocoRoco, the rest of the game has improved quite a bit. I'd say this handheld gem deserves a 8.75 out of 10 and is a must-buy for the price.

LocoRoco 2 could well be the most enjoyable mix of madcap nonsense and simple yet perfectly formed gameplay that there's been all year. The cartoon world and bizarre cast of characters make absolutely no sense but become all the more lovable because of it; while the tilting gameplay is an intoxicating mix of elegant simplicity and fiendish addictiveness that hooks you right from the off. It may not be one of the festive season's big budget triple-A titles, but it's definitely one of the most smile inducingly fun.

LocoRoco 2 is shining example of how the PSP can be used attract such a diverse audience of gamers. The game has so much charm and so many things to do that it is impossible not to love it. It can be enjoyed in either long sittings or in a quick one-level jaunt which makes it perfect for any setting you want to play it in (e.g. at home or on the go). For a mere $25.00 cost you would have to be crazy to miss out on picking up LocoRoco 2 as it is one of the best PSP titles I have played in some time. It is a game that is definitely the perfect game for any gamer in the family, from the hardcore to the most casual.

It probably goes without saying that not everyone is going to enjoy LocoRoco 2. It's just too happy. It's so happy, it might as well come with a free red nose and joke book and an LP of Bobby McFerrin's 'Don't Worry, Be Happy." But, it's also an excellent game. On the surface it appears fairly similar to its predecessor, but underneath there is quite a bit of new gameplay meat to get your claws into. In a perfect world, the LocoRoco series is something that everyone would love, but for now it's probably safe to say that if you've reached this far in the review, you've either played the first game and wondering if LocoRoco 2 is as good, or you're curious about getting into the series with this game. For the former group, it absolutely is, and for the latter, you absolutely should. You'll be happier for it, we guarantee.

Gamers' Temple, The
There's a story behind the game, but it's hard to convey to you since it's basically nonsensical. Suffice it to say that the evil Mojas hate the LocoRocos and the LocoRocos need to defend themselves and their happy little world. Story is not as important as atmosphere in this game anyway, and that atmosphere is best described with words such as happy, cute, and bouncy. I can't really say that I seek out cute games and in general prefer those that skew darker, but LocoRoco 2 managed to suck me in - brightly colored worlds and catchy, happy music and all. The gameplay is pretty unique and has its own special challenge to it, but I think that its the imagination and creativity that went into the game that gives it its special appeal. Even if you don't normally go for cute games, LocoRoco 2 is worth checking out - even if you can only play it when no one else is watching.

Just like its music, LocoRoco 2 does recycle plenty of ideas from the first game, but its new additions are enough to make it an easy game to recommend for any PSP owner. With boundless charm, improved gameplay, and plenty of replayability, LocoRoco 2 is a definite bounce in the right direction for the cheery series.

Cheat Code Central
The ingenious presentation, full of vibrant colors, minimalistic level design, and inventive characters is perhaps what stands out the most in LocoRoco 2, other than its daring soundtrack. The originality in the design may remind you of its cousin Patapon, but LocoRoco is definitely a game of its own. It's interesting to see how such a minimalistic approach can translate into new dimensions like texture. The carefully crafted animations always transmit the right feel at the right time, whether you're bouncing over a spongy surface, gliding through windy areas, or sliding on ice. Everything in this game is charming; it has a cheery vibe you won't be able to find elsewhere.

Game Revolution
LocoRoco 2 follows the trend of putting a bright, cheery mask on a title that has more depth than its kiddy appearance would suggest. For all the Blues Clues color palettes, the flowers blowing in the breeze past dancing cacti, and a soundtrack that seems to recorded by the Alvin and the Chipmunks singing J-pop for a kindergarten show and tell on happy brownie recipes, it has the artistic polish that Sony is known for and a redesign that is nearly flawless for a sequel to a successful title. Of course, this would be the perfect place to use another witty analogy to end this review, but I won’t… because I’m sure I’ll need it for LocoRoco 3.

Fragland.net
LocoRoco 2 is certainly a game we would suggest for the PSP. Yes, there could have been some more variation and challenge present but its simplicity makes this game very relaxing. The music and colors can only make you happy and also the Locorocos and MuiMuis will make you smile.

GameZone
This exciting level can be as easy or as difficult as you want. If you’re a perfectionist, chances are you’ll want to capture every berry available, which feels next to impossible. That feeling is a common one while playing LocoRoco 2; if you just want to run through the stages and enjoy them as is, the game is pretty easy. But the moment you crave perfection from yourself, the game is all but a nightmare. As with the original, backtracking is only possible to a point – once you’ve hit a certain part of each stage, there’s no going back. Checkpoints are not a part of the LocoRoco 2 experience. In other words, those who want every collectible must play flawlessly.

3D Juegos
82
Jolt (UK)
LocoRoco 2 is a game full of collectibles, pointless mini games, large vegetables, strange creatures and lots of penguin harassment. It’s silly, elegant, strange, delightful, sometimes annoying, always cute, mostly easy (unless unlockables matter to you) a bit random, often clever and ultimately not that essential. It’s perhaps too whimsical for most people, and if you need meaningful story and immediate reward, it almost certainly isn’t for you. With the right mindset, though, it’s a real treat and something special for PSP owners to call their own.

GameTrailers
Despite new levels, moves, and critters, LocoRoco 2 is very much the same as the first. But when the same is this clever, it's hard to complain. It's definitely not for the deathmatch crowd, but just about anyone can pick it up and get it immediately. We would like more precision in the controls, but it's a great quick fix. Just don't play it in long stretches or its novelty wears thin. It's bargain priced, but be warned that you'll be lucky to get 10 hours out of these bounding balls.

HonestGamers
LocoRoco 2 was built to produce smiles, just like its predecessor. As such, things haven't changed much. Try it if you want more of the original or if you're new to the series and want something different, but otherwise tread carefully.

GamePro (US)
I should note that the game can get incredibly frustrating, with puzzles that are demanding and will require multiple retries. The boss fights, however, are just the opposite: they're rather easy. Thankfully, boss fights are few and far between; it's just the teeth-grating task of getting there that can really set you off. Still, with its quirky presentation and interesting gameplay, LocoRoco 2 makes some fantastic improvements over its short-but-sweet precursor that should attract fans of the series and newcomers alike. It's often times frustrating and rather nonsensical but it's an absolute blast anyway. Pick it up and let the good times roll!

As it stands, LocoRoco is a handheld game that pitches the balance between pick-up-and-play fun and engaging gameplay exactly. The clever level design and artistic merit are an added bonus. LocoRoco 2 may not be progressive, but we'll damned if it isn't fun.

LocoRoco 2 is a game that just keeps on giving. Whether it’s in the immense amount of collectables you’re encouraged to find, the multiple avenues that each level has hidden under its skin, or simply the memory of a particularly captivating area, you’ll be under its spell from the word go. Cute, charming, and an utterly magical joy to play from start to finish, LocoRoco 2 is your new best friend. Now go give it a hug and buy yourself some mittens.

Whether you're watching them hurtle along in the embrace of a rainbow wind, or guiding them through the intestines of a giant penguin, the squishy, smiling LocoRoco are as charming as they've ever been. The second game they've leant their name to is no major advance on its predecessor, but fans of cutesy gibberish, pastel colours and 2D physics should lay down those twenty pounds without hesitation.

Despite the lack of evolution, I had a great time with LocoRoco 2. It's an improvement upon the original by most measures; bigger, better and more bad-ass, you might say, sacrilegious as it seems to apply Cliff Bleszinski's sales pitch to this sugary treat, but where Gears of War 2 delivered on its outlandish promises, LocoRoco 2 proves decidedly lacking. It's among the slightest of sequels and although this budget-priced retread isn't the breath of fresh air that its predecessor was, the core of the experience remains charming and accessible enough that while series veterans might feel short-changed, newcomers are sure to have a blast.

Ostensibly the same again, then, LocoRoco 2 nevertheless pulls its charm tight and burrows deeper into the mechanics, level layouts and set-pieces, presenting more elaborate rewards in visuals and gameplay, and doing a better job of sharing them with you so that you don't always feel as though you're searching for cuddly needles in a Teletubbies haystack. It comes across as a refined, more elaborately constructed sequel that remembers why it was good in the first place.
