Lode Runner 2

Not missing is the all-important level editor. Here, you can build your own puzzles and try them on your friends. I was never very good at building levels, but I'm looking forward to hunting around the Internet to find some new single-player levels to play. All in all, Lode Runner 2 is a great game. I plan on digging my way through all 75 levels, then bugging my coworkers to play with me through all the multiplayer levels. Pity them.

The levels that you progress through in Lode Runner 2 are an excellent tribute to the original Lode Runner. Even with an extra dimension to deal with, you'll get that same kind of vibes that you did from the classic. Add to that some modern eye candy, slick animations, outstanding cutscenes, and a soundtrack that keeps things lively, you'll get a kick out of Lode Runner 2. Whether you played the original or not, this quick-thinking game delivers a load of puzzles to keep any Jake or Jane on their toes.

LR2 is een erg doordacht spel. De puzzels zijn gemakkelijk over leuk tot gewoon duivels. Je zal dikwijls zweren dat ze onmogelijk zijn en de kick als je er één beëindigt (er zijn er 165) is dan ook erg groot. Grafisch is LR2 gewoon af en muziek was zelden zo stemmig zonder enerverend te zijn. Het enige nadeel is het perspectief, een direct gevolg van de 3D aanpak waar ik het nog altijd moeilijk mee heb.

I think I like it. Lode Runner 2 is sort of a thinkers' arcade game. There's action and timing involved, but when it comes down to it this is a puzzle-solving game. If you've got the patience to work out a strategy ahead of time, and are willing to restart a level now and again, Lode Runner 2 might be worth checking out.

Lode Runner is een spel dat er simpel uitziet, maar een behoorlijk intense gameplay bevat en voor een grote mate van verslaving kan zorgen. Ik denk dat dit spel veel oudere fans zal vergaren, gezien het zelfs ondanks z'n face-lift nog steeds als een old school game aanvoelt.

An der Grundidee hat sich gottlob wenig bis gar nichts geändert; ein paar Extras hier und da gab es ja schon beim letzten Runner. Gewöhnungsbedürftig ist jedoch die hakelige Diagonal-Steuerung, bedingt durch den Schritt zur isometrischen Ansicht. Die freie Levelwahl ist ein zweifelhafter Bonus, wenn ich eine schwierige Etappe einfach überspringen kann, bin ich versucht, schneller als sonst aufzugeben. Denn: Das Spiel ist nicht leicht.

Эта игра многим понравится. А те, кого не пропрет, навряд ли будут от нее плеваться. Просто отложат диск и все. Lode Runner 2 сделан не для фанатов первой части. Эти люди давно уже не дети и играют во взрослые жизненные игры. Контингент LR2 — это геймеры, которые иногда любят пораскинуть мозгами, не обязательно в заумной стратегии или за шахматной доской. В меру притягательный процесс игры, возможность выбирать уровни, хорошая графика... Что еще надо непридирчивому игроку? Да и требования у Runner’а низкие. Акселератор опять-же не требуется. В общем, идиллическая игра для идиллических людей. Я не такой. А вы?

Nach einer Stunde und unzähligen Versuchen trennt mich nur noch ein Goldbarren vom Levelende, als ich beim Ausmanövrieren der Mönche aus Versehen die Selbstzerstörungstaste drücke. Trotz verquerer Steuerung, schweißtreibender Hektik und frustenden Sackgassen steckt in der Action-Knobelei noch immer viel Abwechslung und ein ganz eigener Motivations-Funke.

Now I love the freaky. I'm all for breaking the norm and even getting dangerous when it comes to entertainment; however, I didn't enjoy this game as much as I could have. As fun as it is to look at it, I just couldn't get addicted to the gameplay. Rather than spend hours on end trying to solve the puzzles and get to the next level, I'd just as soon find someone who's really good at it and watch him. Or her. Jake or Jane, after all. The network feature allows this, to an extent, as you can sit back and let someone better than you do all the hard work while you check out the scenery...or read the manual, for that matter. Honestly, Scott Matthews' manual for "Lode Runner 2" is a riot. It's a perfect fit to a game that...well, since the box doesn't quote me, I'll quote myself.

Bereits zu Atari- und C64-Zeiten war der Lode Runner auf der Suche nach Gold und Schätzen, dies hat sich auch mit dem zweiten Teil für den PC nicht geändert. In über 150 Levels steuert man wahlweise neben dem bekannten Jake Peril nun auch seine Begleiterin Jane über isometrische 3D-Plattformen. Gemeinsam klettern, graben und sprengen sich die zwei durch fünf verschiedene Welten. Für Fans des Klassikers interessant, alle anderen greifen besser zu Gex 3D oder Earthworm Jim und Konsorten.

Is it any fun? No. Not remotely. And no, the included level editor just extends the misery. It adds nothing to the value. Look, overall this game simply blows. I cannot stress enough how much of a crime I think this game commits by its mere presence. I love the original Lode Runner and its two faithful sequels from way back in '96. This is not Lode Runner. It is not fun. IT IS NO CHILD OF MINE! LEAVE THIS HOUSE AT ONCE!
