Unlike other shooters where you blast the same things over and over, Lords of Thunder is constantly tossing new adversaries your way. The difficulty is severe, and only by using continues and stocking up on items was I able to make much progress. If there's one aspect I dislike about the game, it has to be the grinding guitar soundtrack. Imagine one long, headache-inducing guitar solo and you'll understand why I was tempted to turn down the volume. Other than that, Lords of Thunder is a superb game that will challenge even the most skilled gamers.

As for the music, it Lords over the best hard rock soundtrack found in any CD-ROM title to date. The game's adjustable challenge levels and heavy action will make trigger fingers everywhere itchy for hours of adrenaline-filled excitement. Lords of Thunder deserves thunderous applause! Get ready to rumble with the High Court.

TurboGrafx CDAll Game Guide
The TurboDuo/Grafx-16 was home to a veritable horde of 2D shooters and, though it's come pretty late in the system's history, Lords of Thunder is definitely worth checking out! Not only do you get to fly around and shoot down thousands of air, land, and sea based creatures, you get to upgrade your armor and weapons, take on some fiendishly hard end bosses, and rock out to some classic hard rock tunes!

This game has it all! The music is pumpin', the action is fast, and the graphics are excellent. The different levels and monstrous enemies keep the game challenging. A sequel to Gates of Thunder, Lords is welcomed as one of the best shooters for the Duo.

And like Gate of Thunder before it, you'd be well served to immediately invest 800 Wii Points for a download here. There are lots of shooters on the Virtual Console, and certainly lots of TurboGrafx shooters there. But Lords of Thunder is one of the best, a game that's been praised since its original release 15 years ago and that proves to still be just as compelling and energetic today. Diehard shooter fans should have this, Gate of Thunder and Gradius III all downloaded and prominently placed in permanent position on their Wii Channel Arrays. Get to it!

Tasty. Lords of Thunder is another excellent shooter. The graphics really jump to life, and the soundtrack is better than listening to Z-ROCK! While I can't put Lords of Thunder above Gate of Thunder simply because something about the gameplay isn't quite as fierce, this title still ranks up there. For anyone who enjoys disposing of vile alien scum, this title is a must-have.

I personally have a huge soft soul for shooters and this is one of the best blasters ever made. LOT combines massive shooting intensity, pin point control accuracy (a necessity in this game) and amazing CD tunes. Unfortunately, the colors are more washed out in this version and the game seems easier than it was on the TG-16. Still, it's a good translation.

This amazing soundtrack caps an incredibly fun and adrenaline-laced experience. With stylish (if less-than-stellar) graphics, solid and smooth gameplay, variety within each level, and throngs of demonic enemies, Lords of Thunder stands tall as one of The Great Shooters. Definitely worth owning.

Lords of Thunder won't reign as the top shooter this year - it's traditional side-scrolling action may seem dated in comparison to some of the newer shooters. It's classic gameplay though, is welcome thumb candy for Sega CD jet jockeys starved for traditional shoot-em-ups.

All in all, the pros greatly outweigh the cons of this game. Lords of Thunder is fun to play and a welcome addition to the Sega CD line of software.

Overall, Lords of Thunder is a capable shmup that is fun for a while. It doesn't stand up to the Turbo Duo release due to its watered-down graphics and redone soundtrack. I would recommend you get that version if you can. Sega CD owners looking for another shmup to add to their collection won't be blown away but they won't be disappointed either.

I like how soldiers are deployed from large airships, and some monsters scale in from the backgrounds. The bosses are really tough if your power is low, but if you're loaded up they're not a problem. Lords of Thunder is a respectable 2D shooter for the Sega CD, but if you have a choice, track down the superior Turbo Duo version instead.

Although this game is rather short and relatively easy, it's actually quite fun. Regarding the armor, I recommend using the Fire Armor the entire game. Beyond that, get ready for a heavy metal, head-banging, thunderous time.

This game was out long ago for the Turbo Graphix and it shows. Shooters have come a long way since then with a lot more animation and sound effects. This game was good for it's time, but seems a bit watered down for today's standards. Yet, after playing a bit, you must admit that it is a decent shooter. It is not a challenging game and would probably appeal a lot more to a novice gamer. In today's market, it's average.
