At each level, the main objective is to gather all the vikings on the exit spot. Once you do that, you advance to the next level and get the code that is necessary to access that level when you restart the game! So no objections here - graphics are superb, sound is also excellent, gameplay is marvelous, and addictiveness is through the roof! :) So what are you waiting for?

This cart offers fresh puzzle solving fun that strains your brain and takes a long time to complete, but makes you laugh out loud along the way. Three's a crowd when you get lost with the Vikings.

The graphics are sumptuous, particularly the waterfalls and snow-capped mountains. Lovely Stuff. What's more the whole thing is topped off with a rocking funky soundtrack with some great samples. The Lost Vikings is hard-core cerebral action with a very natty line in helmets. It's dead smart.

Game Boy AdvanceGameSpy
The Lost Vikings' graphics are ported directly from the SNES version of the game, which means they don't take full advantage of the GBA's enhanced processing power, but it's still a sharp-looking game nonetheless. That's not to say that this GBA remake couldn't have improved on the original in some minor ways, however. It would have been nice to see some new levels, unlockable cheats, or alternate play modes. A two- or three-player link mode seems like it should have been a no-brainer, and it's a shame that you can't go back and play through levels that you've already cleared. Heck, even a Super Mario Advance-style red coin hunt would have been nice. Still, these minor quibbles about what "could have been" and shouldn't condemn what The Lost Vikings is: a surprisingly good remake of an unsung classic.

SNESIGN
The Lost Vikings didn't break the rules, and it didn't open the floodgates for waves of imitators. It wasn't the high-water mark for a budding genre, and didn't set new sales records. There's no denying that Blizzard went on to bigger, better, and more important things, and it's not surprising that they've left the Vikings far behind them. Still, this was the moment when we stood up and took notice; where Blizzard came into their own. It is smart, stylish, and different, and those are the same qualities we still look for today.

Game Boy AdvanceIGN
Blizzard always intended this game as a direct conversion of the original design, but we can't help but think that the game could have been better with a few simple inclusions. While we're certainly thankful that Blizzard gave us a cartridge save instead of the original game's password engine, the developers forgot to enable the ability to go back to previously solved levels...just for fun. A Time Trial mode would have increased the replay of The Lost Vikings, as it could allow players to replay their completed levels to beat the recorded times. Also, an exclusive GBA three-player mode would have been excellent as well, with each player taking control of an individual Viking, trying to work together to complete the set task.

The combination of fiendish puzzles. Viking humor and rave music makes this strategy/action game too good to pass up. Great use of the six-button controller.

Game Boy AdvanceGame Over Online
Back in the day when computer games were separated into VGA and SVGA, The Lost Vikings made its first appearance. Using a plethora of different keys, you alternated between three vikings who were abducted by aliens and put into a spaceship full of aliens, lasers, force fields and other futuristic contraptions. From the attitudes these guys exhibited trapped in a claustrophobic space ship, they would be the three modern guys looking for an exit out of the ship just because they were taken away from their Budweisers and needed to catch up on the next hockey game on ESPN.

One of the game's most attractive features is the huge amount of incidental humour that's been packed in. Some of the animations used to depict our three barbarians are a hoot, especially the many and varied death scenes. Get electrocuted by a forcefield, and your body turns into a pile of old bones, while tumbling into quicksand means a slow slide to oblivion as you wave a fond farewell. The humour isn't confined to the graphics and animation, though - at the end of each level the three Vikings always have a pop at each other. Gradually, a story unfolds, and some of the gags are genuinely funny. The Lost Vikings isn't a perfect game by any means, but it is a lot of fun. Some of the later levels are particularly testing and incredibly devious, obviously the work of some sadistic games designer, and will certainly take some time to complete. Dangerously addictive.

Interplays Lost Vikings setzt in Sachen Fehlerlosigkeit neue Maßstäbe.

An entertaining platform/puzzle game with a few novel features. It ha a great sense of humour - but then again the player needs one too in some instances as it gets very frustrating.

AmigaAmiga Format
The price is high – for £29.99, 37 levels is not much cop considering the number of levels you get with other games. And my final gripe is it takes ages to reload the level once you have messed it up – and you are bound to do this (especially on the later ones, because they are tricky) since there is not a ‘browse through’ function like there is in Lemmings. So have a copy of Amiga Format ready for a good read while loading, otherwise you will go blimmin’ barmy. In fact always have a copy of AF ready – it is FAB, much like this game, but the poor loading and lack of levels lets it down.

Unlike most frustrating games, however, The Lost Vikings' frustration factor diminishes shortly after you quit playing. No one wants to play a game that becomes fun again after they stop playing it, but that is the case here. I found myself going back to the game an hour after turning it off and saying, "That's it, I quit! I can't take this anymore!" Its unique, strangely appealing gameplay style is secretly addictive. It's a secret because you won't realize you're addicted to it until after you've quit and come back to it a few times. This game isn't for everyone, but surely there are a lot of players out there who love different kinds of games, and will appreciate the unique experience that's found within this SNES classic.

Game Boy AdvanceWorth Playing
If you played The Lost Vikings already on one of the many platforms it was made available for in 1993 then there isn’t much incentive to revisit it on the GBA since it offers no new modes of play or bonus additions that weren’t found in the original. Had Blizzard incorporated a multiplayer component that allowed three people to link up and individually control a Viking, this game could have scored much higher, but the overall lack of additions beyond the obligatory battery back-up save function makes this game a suitable purchase only for the uninitiated.

Game Boy AdvanceGameSpot
The Lost Vikings is a challenging game, and it features 37 levels, so it takes a while to finish. Some traps are impossible to avoid until you've experienced them at least once, and you'll often find yourself in split-second situations where you need to organize the Vikings in a specific order that you can discover only through trial and error. This sort of challenge may seem tedious to some people, especially since you spend a great deal of time in the game just catching the characters up to one another.

There is always a great feel to finding the solution to what your brain has been troubled about for the last quarter, and it is even better when you actually accomplish the goal. But let us not forget the flaws. The presentation doesn't impress for a game that was released so late in the Genesis' life span. It can easily frustrate you later on and that is even worse when playing with friends. With the pluses and minuses together we have a regular seven-pointer in our hands. Getting this or another version won't matter much, but here you have five extra levels. Just make sure to play them and every other with a seven-button pad.

The Lost Vikings was a really good puzzle game for Super NES, and it has been done justice on this platform as well. The music doesn't have the kick of the other version (or the truly colorful graphics) but still a good game.
