Maabus

All this may sound like a recipe for Frankenstein's monster, but Maabus is actually an impressive piece of digital alchemy — and it's just as addictive as any of its inspirations.

On the box Maabus comes in, Microforum calls it both "the ultimate videogame" and "the ultimate adventure" - and that's a good clue to what's wrong with it. Maabus tries to be two things at once, and it succeeds at neither.

Die wenigen Rätsel, die die Programmierer Maabus gegönnt haben, sind nicht besonders schwer und lösen sich eigentlich von selbst. Vielleicht hätten sich die Entwickler etwas weniger mit tollen Features unter Windows beschäftigen sollen und dafür mehr mit der Handlung, denn die Story an sich ist gar nicht schlecht.

Un intérêt très limité, une interface de jeu plus jolie qu'utile, mais de superbes séquences 3D. Contrairement à ce que dit la boîte, on est très loin du jeu le plus excitant qui existe.

Dessutom är det löjligt kort. Vem som helst kan lösa Maabus på mindre än två timmar, och att då kräva 495 spänn för det är rena rånet. Det är tydligt att Microforum, som förlaget heter, är duktiga på 3D-Studio. Fattas bara någon som kan göra ett spel också. Sugvarning utfärdas.

Hier ein Kampf, da ein kleines Rätsel und dort ein geheimnisvoller Gegenstand - ich fühlte mich schon schlechter unterhalten. Für ein Adventure ist der Puzzlegehalt trotz dreier CDs zwar arg dürftig, doch an einem entspannten Nachmittag könnte man Maarbus schon mal spielen. Wenn da nicht ein paar schwere Schnitzer im Design wären.
