Machine Hunter

This is a pretty decent game that you should enjoy for a while. I found myself growing bored with it after some time, but it is still worth a look. If you are a fan of the Loaded-type games, you will probably love this one. There are enough new features—like taking over the machines after you kill them—to make this title carry some originality, but it does have the feel of games past.

A very well made game. It adds some strategy elements to a basic top-down shooter format. If anything, this game probably resembles Project: Overkill more than Loaded because of its mission based objectives. Overall though, if you enjoyed either of those two games you will probably love this one. It takes the top-down shooter up another notch with the graphical detail and environment layout.

Machine Hunter lebt von seiner ungewöhnlichen Spielperspektive, seiner schnellen (wenn auch pixeligen) 3D-Grafik und den ungeheuren Explosions- und Lichteffekten. Im Schatten dieser technischen Vorzüge sucht man vergeblich nach echten Innovationen: Es muß nur gerannt und geballert werden. Das Besetzen und Steuern immer neuer Robotertypen bringt aber genug Abwechslung, um Fans harter Action über 16 Levels hinweg zu fesseln.

Voor Machine Hunter ga je beter niet naar de winkel, je vindt het waarschijnlijk binnen de 6 maanden op een verzamel-cd en met de cheatcodes die gewoontegetrouw wel in dit blad zullen verschijnen, ben je in staat enkele levels naar eigen smaak te spelen en dat zal ruimschoots volstaan denk ik.

Ja, det är snyggt, ja, det är våldsamt och ja, det är kul i ungefär en timme. Eller som Gunde skulle ha sagt: "Nära räknas inte här på Fortet."

Aside from the control issues, there is nothing terribly wrong with the execution of Machine Hunter. If you can get over the low-resolution graphics you'll find a decent overhead-view, pointless action game. However, it all seems a bit too familiar, as it's basically a version of the PlayStation game Loaded minus the psychopaths (and Loaded was basically Gauntlet). It's artistically bankrupt and so derivative of other titles it has no real identity, just like all of the characters in the game.

Der er masser af udfordring i Machine Hunter, men spillet er lidt for simpelt og uoriginalt, og styringen kan højst betegnes som middelmådig.

If you love overhead shooters, you may want to check out Machine Hunter - it provides a decent challenge that will occupy your time. But most die-hard fans will be a lot happier dusting off their copy of the original Loaded and re-experiencing one of the best PlayStation action games to date.

Ich persönlich kann mit häßlichen, aus der Vogelperspektive dargestellten Männchen wenig anfangen. Sowohl der eigene Recke als auch die gegnerischen Roboter setzen sich aus dermaßen großen Pixeln zusammen, daß man sie ohne weiteres unter Bauklötzen verstecken könnte. Mit dieser Tatsache im Hinterkopf freue ich mich fast über das ungeschickte Leveldesign. Verdecken etwa Plattformen oder Brücken höher liegender Etagen meinen kleinen Helden, dürfen sich meine Augen wenigstens für ein paar Sekunden erholen.

With all the hype this game has encountered, you'd expect something worth critiquing. But as it stands, Machine Hunter isn't even worth picking up from the discount rack.
