So, here's your gold-standard real-time strategy game. You found a city, gather resources, improve the city and build an army to crush your enemies. That's the whole genre in a nutshell, and, indeed, Age of Mythology en toto. But, what makes AoM such a good game? Well, for starters, unlike most Microsoft software, AoM is incredibly intuitive. If you select a unit with a left click, the right click will cause the unit to take the logical action, based on the location you chose. Military units will attack enemies. Villagers will gather wood, gold, or food as appropriate, or, if clicked on a damaged building, will repair it.

Age of Mythology is one amazing RTS. This game is deep in strategy, rich in story, lush in visuals and well-groomed in sound. With Santa on his way, gamers should have Age of Mythology at the top of their wish list. Heck, were I Jewish, 9 days of Hanukkah would equal 9 copies of AoM. It's that cool.

So, with the arrival of Age of Mythology, do Mac gamers finally have an RTS to match up with the latest PC offerings? The answer is a resounding "yes." Age of Mythology offers players a wonderful blend of the standard RTS play we've associated with the Age of… series with the addition of new tactical and strategic elements brought about by the inclusion of mythical units and the new resource, Favor. Even with these new elements, the overall game play remains well-balanced between players and the new elements broaden the game's appeal far beyond the historically accurate titles that came before it in the series.

Les intégristes de Starcraft et ceux d'Age Of Kings pourront donc continuer à se tourner le dos et chacun dispose maintenant de son RTS en trois dimensions. Le jeu m'est apparu plus facile à prendre en main et les assauts moins brouillon mais, tout comme Blizzard et son fameux Warcraft III, Age Of Mythology aura ses amateurs et ses détracteurs. Toutefois, il constitue à n'en pas douter une excellente évolution d'Age Of Kings. Une évolution tout en douceur, dotée d'un magnifique moteur 3D et d'une prise en main très souple. Pourquoi ne pas, au moins, l'essayer ?
