DescriptionDarkwind: War on Wheels is a wargame in a persistent world that is best described as a hybrid game, taking elements out of Autoduel (car customizations), EVE Online (sandbox elements) and other assorted games like Jagged Alliance (gang roster with individual traits and needs), interactive fiction (text quests) and Interstate 76 (physics and locational damage). Played on a client-and-browser combination, you get to trade (with a dynamically changing market system), be a pirate, make a mark for yourself in town events like deathraces and combat arenas, or even open your own factory or farm as an entrepreneur!
Client-based events include anything that involves shooting or driving, such as racing and scouting. The events are played out in phases, with each phase typically lasting 30 seconds or less if players are fast to end turn. Instead of watching the cars move linearly, the game has its own built in physics system to allow for complex car movements - moving at too fast a speed may result in the car skidding off the road or even flipping; likewise being hit by rockets for two consecutive turns may flip your car over, even throwing it high into the air if it is a lightweight chassis. Throw in the fact that characters can die in horribly violent ways (expressed through text) and the existence of perma-death, and you have a brutal, post-apocalyptic setting.
The browser is where you manage your gang members, purchase items, set travel routes and manage your camps (player-owned sites).
