Overall, the game isn't much to look at. It's not bad, it's just not good and only a surfing enthusiast will get it. The controls mimic other extreme sports games, but seem to have less accuracy and predictability.
Inside Mac Games (IMG)
You may never have given much thought to climbing atop a surf board and performing moves with names like the warm water barrel, sweet Florida juice or a 360 roast beef grab — if so, think again. KSPS may not be the most exciting or extreme of sports title around, but it successfully captures the distinctive ‘tude of the sport in a fun and engaging game. Diverse game play and a solid game design spread the goals and tricks in a well balanced fashion that makes the action interesting enough to remain challenging — but not so out of reach that you’re discouraged from attempting that next move. With the right settings, outstanding wave graphics and smooth character animation make every time you launch Kelly Slater’s Pro Surfer your own personal endless summer.
To be a fan of KSPS, you've got to have a penchant for hitting the waves in a virtual world, as there isn't that much else distinct about it. If you're looking for a solid, predictable game with some challenging gameplay and cool graphics, you could most certainly do worse. If you're hoping to pick your jaw up off the floor, however, Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer is not the game you're looking for.
Fans of Tony Hawk's game franchise won't find a ton of surprises here. Still, Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer is well executed and fun to play.
Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer is yet another attempt to appeal to the "extreme sports" enthusiasts in the world; the ones whose last words in life will be something along the lines of, "Hey, wanna see something cool?" It is of the same genre of "classic" titles such as: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Tony Hawk's Underground, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2, and Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder.
