Once you figure out the installation rituals for all the extras (Links CE comes on four CDs), Links CE is a true golfer's golf sim. It's deep enough to engross hard-core golfers, yet the rules and setup are pliable enough that anyone can quickly fire it up and play a round (or just play around).

Links Championship Edition is a startlingly realistic simulation of golfing, but its complex interface may make it daunting for casual duffers.

As much as I would like to include myself as one of those golfing elites, my scorecards, which roughly resemble a soccer mom’s bowling score card, tell a different tale. Thankfully, I can still live out my dreams of having pro golf skills in Links 2002 Championship Edition. Why bother making reservations, waiting in line at the golf range, or risk getting run over by a golf cart when I can LAN it up on Links with my golf-obsessed roommates?

Aside from the minor graphics problem and the PDF issue, Links Championship Edition is a well-executed game. This is Bold's second Macintosh release (the first was Age of Empires II), and if these two products are a good indicator of the company's ability, then macHOME is happy to buy Bold a beer at the "19th hole."

I'm not a golfer (although I was caddy for my grandmother once about 15 or so years ago). As such, I can't review Links from the golfer perspective, and I don't know whether it's a suitable substitute for actually being on the greens. What I can do is describe how Links performed and offer my impressions as a golf novice.
