Mythos: The Beginning - Director's Cut
Description
Mythos: The Beginning is a survival horror game set in a Lovecraftian London. On 22nd June 1934 the player gets a visit from professor Blacktail. He is worried about three of his students who were performing a scientific investigation at the abandoned Harborough asylum. He turns to the player's character as a renowned investigator of the paranormal and occult. Once the investigation starts it soon becomes clear that something is very wrong at the asylum.
The player can choose a character from three classes: Detective, Journalist and Priest. They all have their special bonuses an pre-selected starting skills. For example the Journalist starts with a master key and the skills study enemies and adrenaline rush. Experience points earned can be used to rest (recover all health and stamina), upgrade skills and stats or learn new skills. As the game progresses the upgrades become more expensive. The game can only be saved in special save rooms. Characters gain experience that can be spent to expand proficiency.
After the initial release of the game it was eventually replaced for free with a Director's Cut version. It has overhauled and rebalanced gameplay mechanics, new skill checks and more ways to progress through the game, new and rewritten dialogues, new rooms containing new items and scares, two new enemy types, and it integrates the free DLC Edge of Madness into the base game.
