The "Rune axe" was actually the first prototype made for Human Head Studios, who wanted some for the May 2003 E3

A fresh install of the game does not immediately recognize old save game files - you'll also need to backup the USER.INI file

Armorer Kirby Wise-Fraser & Son hand forged a Viking axe for the game

The game came with a "Free Nordic Cruise Competition", offering the opportunity to win a four-day cruise break to Norway for two people with Fjord Line by completing and returning the typical tick box question card.

Here's the blurb from the card;

"Discover the true beauty of a country once inhabited by Vikings. Experience for yourself the magnificent scenery of Norway on a 4-day cruise on M/S Jupiter. Visit Stavanger and Haugesund and enjoy an overnight stop in the delightful city of Bergen.

Simply return this card, complete with your details, and you will be automatically entered into the competition."

While the game was winning favorable reviews with many sites at the time, including a 9 out of 10 at the old gamecenter.com site, oldmanmurray.com wrote an unflattering, but very hilarious review which slammed the game in every way possible. The reviewer even starts by claiming the game almost made him switch hobbies from gaming to model railroading. Oldmanmurray.com later posted a very sarcastic "Rune Review Rebuttal" in which they attempt to justify some of the great reviews the game was getting.

Unlike most games, Rune does not preserve your save game files when you uninstall it. So if you want to keep them, be sure to back your saves up manually before you uninstall the game from your hard drive.
