Description
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic begins thousands of years before the events of the original Star Wars movies, and puts you in the role of an upcoming Jedi Knight. Will you choose the side of light and be kind, or choose the dark side, and be evil?
The game opens with two sides fighting each other; the Republic and the Sith, an imperial power that's trying to take over Republic space. As the game begins, your spaceship is attacked and destroyed. You manage to escape to the pod, but the pod lands on a planet that's under Sith control, so you must find a way to escape.
Throughout the game, you will visit many Star Wars locations that you'll recognize from the movies, such as Kashyyyk, the homeworld of the Wookiee, and the desert planet of Tatooine.
During your adventure, you will do various tasks. Some of these include investigating murders, taking up bounties, and find a cure for a vicious disease that is killing people left and right.
Eventually, you will have to train at the Jedi academy to earn your lightsaber and your force moves. Force powers at your disposal are your basic force stun, which stuns opponents, force pull, which pulls opponents or objects toward you, and the Jedi Mind Trick, which persuades people to see things as you do.
You will have various weapons at your disposal, from your lightsaber to a blaster to a grenade and all sorts of melee weapons. Your character (and your enemies for that) have the ability to duck and dodge and block your attacks, presenting with more of a challenge.
Knights of the Old Republic uses the Star Wars D20 rule system which is similar to the 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons rules.

Trivia
The game has many references to lines from the Star Wars films. This includes "My name's [your character's name], I'm here to save you," which is what was said by Luke Skywalker when saving Leia Organa. These references, however, are only from the original trilogy, and not the mediocre prequels.
