So it's with great enthusiasm that I give "TIE Fighter" Applelinks' higest rating. As a flight sim, it reaches well beyond its "Star Wars" fan base to impress gamers of all types and ages. As another and completely different take on the "Star Wars" saga, "TIE Fighter" is faithful to its predecessors while being original enough to generate the same enthusiasm. It should quite easily keep you busy until we get the Mac version of "Pod Racer."

Embody the Empire's dark forces and take on the Rebel Alliance. The action of a World War II dogfight is combined with the fantasy of Star Wars in this great game.

Is this now-classic sci-fi action game worth the money? If you are a Star Wars fan and have enjoyed (and are still enjoying) X-Wing, this game is likely to keep you happy for hours on end. TIE's game play is almost identical to X-Wing. I can't recommend buying this game if your sole intention is to keep LucasArts developing Mac games (unless you've got $25 to blow). Although out-dated and out-matched by most of today's Mac action titles, TIE Fighter's low price may be its saving grace in triggering future Mac releases from LucasArts to appear (no guarantees though).

If you're a Star Wars fan, this game is a must. Even if you aren't, TIE Fighter is a heck of a lot of fun. Just don't get caught helping any little old ladies across the street. The imperial admiral might get very angry.
