Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
The game is easily worth $60, and I’d like to recommend that everyone buy it. It doesn’t matter whether you are a twitchy veteran of the original StarCraft, or someone who has gotten into playing World of Warcraft in college. It doesn’t matter if you’ve haven’t played any of Blizzard’s games before, or if you’ve never tried any RTS titles at all. You can find something in SCII to make sure you’re glued to the screen for hours.
Starcraft 2 has been a long time getting here. However, it has been well worth the wait. Blizzard has always been in the business of ripping off every good idea out there and comparisons to other RTS titles, such as Relic’s Dawn of War, might highlight just how little it has innovated. However, Blizzard has succeeded time and time again by masterfully creating gameplay so compelling it hooks in the gamer. This occasion is certainly no exception; Starcraft 2 is the best of the genre and a benchmark for all aliens-vs-other-aliens-vs-marines franchises to live up to.

Anyway, what matters to me is that the Starcraft of old is back. But it's also better than before. Integrating Wing Commander quality navigation and cutscenes, upgrading units between missions, and just playing around in the cantina made Starcraft II exceed all my expectations. Compared to 1998, Starcraft II will feature some true competition for our Game of the Year awards (namely Red Dead Redemption) but it has a very good shot at stealing the crown! Now, about those expansion packs...

Overall, Starcraft 2 is an extremely solid piece of software. Even its “weak” multiplayer doesn’t fail to entertain, and the single-player campaign, while not groundbreaking, is an experience that shouldn’t be missed. With two expansions on the way, and a promise from Blizzard that each expansion will differ from Wings of Liberty significantly, Starcraft 2 was well worth 12 years of waiting.
Starcraft II is no revolution, but it's a finely tuned, competitive, multiplayer RTS that's even now receiving patches to satiate its passionate fan base. The online functionality is expanded for melee games while the robust map editor hints at infinite creative possibilities. In a nutshell, this is Starcraft with the advantages of today's technology. It offers a return to RTS roots in terms of gameplay, but the action is still as fun and addictive as in 1998.

In the end, there's really no reason not to get StarCraft II. It may not be the perfect gem of a game that pretty much everyone expected it to be, but it's definitely an excellent strategy game with a giant community and hundreds of hours of gameplay just waiting to be experienced. $60 may be a bit pricey for some, but prices always go down with time. If you're a fan of Blizzard, StarCraft, or even just strategy games in general, this is a game you don't want to miss.
In spite of a few kinks, Wings of Liberty is an incredible start to the StarCraft II saga. The story draws you in, expands on the game’s universe, and leaves you wanting to see how it ends via the upcoming expansion packs. Which hopefully will be out before that 12-year-old kid learns how to drive. StarCraft is back.
My quibbles about limited strategies and the elimination of certain units are minor, comparatively speaking. After playing ten years of games trying to be StarCraft, it’s nice for Blizzard to come back with StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and once again raise the bar on sci-fi real-time strategy. The multiplayer is similar enough to the original to keep the puritans happy, while the single player campaign is a beautiful, complex, replayable, and epic journey into a world that gets more interesting every time I enter it. Oh yeah, it was worth the wait.
Das Balancing hingegen ist meiner Meinung nach sehr gut gelungen, die Matches sind ausgeglichen und echter Frust kommt online nicht auf. Und wenn man mal einfach nur Spaß haben will, dann spielt man eben Custom Maps. Das war schon zu WarCraft III Zeiten mein persönliches Highlight und wird es wohl auch jetzt wieder werden, sobald gute Karten auftauchen. Sobald der Verkaufspreis bei 30 Euro liegt, kann man kaum noch was falsch machen, zumal bis dahin wohl einige Verbesserungen am Bnet 2.0 vorgenommen sein dürften.
