Description

Suicide Squad: Special Ops is a tie-in to the 2016 movie Suicide Squad, a superhero film based on the DC Comics antihero team of the same name. The squad consists of three imprisoned supervillains: Deadshot, Diablo and Harley Quinn. They are recruited by a secret government agency to execute dangerous missions, in exchange for clemency. They are sent out to locate a special forces recon team in Midway City, but their helicopter crashes and it quickly turns into a much bigger task. The game is an infinite wave based arena shooter similar to the mobile Call of Duty Zombies games. The sequence of the events is randomized for each session and the difficulty ramping is directed.

The game consists of a large environment that can be freely explored, but the different sections (a subway, the streets, an alley, station hall etc.) are unlocked gradually by completing waves. The player gets to control all three characters and the two non-active ones are automatically controlled by the AI. Switching between characters can only be done after completing a wave or when one of the character dies. AI controlled characters never die. When a character dies it is permanent and when all three are dead the game is over. Each character has one or two weapons and one is always a melee weapon or has unlimited ammo. Deadshot has an assault rifle and wrist-mounted guns. Diablo has only one attack: shooting fire, but it needs to recharge every now and then. Harley Quinn uses a baseball bat for melee attacks and a revolver to attack from a distance. Ranged weapons usually have a reload time and if they use finite ammo a crate needs to be located to resupply. Ammo is also replenished between waves.

Enemies appear and attack from all directions, with different enemy types such as small grunts as well as larger enemies using melee and ranged attacks. A meter near the top of the screen shows when the wave is over. Killing enemies fills the meter of a logo that can be used to execute a special attacks, for instance slowing down time in Deadshot's marksman mode or setting the entire environment on fire with Diablo. Direct hits, aiming for the head, kills enemies quicker. Between levels it is often possible to upgrade each character's abilities multiple times, for instance to increase the amount of health pick-ups enemies leave behind, providing more maximum health or increasing the reload time.

The game is free and does not include monetization, in-app purchases or advertisements, except for the movie trailer. It is possible to record in-game footage and share it on social media. The game has daily, weekly and all-time online leaderboards.
