Description

The protagonist of this game is a maintenance engineer aboard I.S.T. Rident, a space-faring passenger liner in the delta quadrant. Suddenly, two war ships attack Rident. As the captain orders the passengers to escape on life boats, the hero is knocked unconscious. Some time later, he finds himself in a deserted spacecraft, and must find a way to escape from there, find out who was responsible for the attack on Rident, and what has happened to its passengers.

Symbiocom is a first-person perspective adventure game, in which locations are represented by pre-rendered backgrounds; camera can be rotated, but movement is restricted to "jumps" between still screens, sometimes displayed as short "on rails" sequences. The emphasis of the gameplay is on solving puzzles, inventory- as well as logic-based. There are no characters to interact with, with the exception of a few robots and the so-called "symplant", a symbiotic artificial intelligence implanted in the protagonist's brain.
