All that said, Madden NFL 2006 is the football game to get this year. It is far and away the most cerebral sports title ever released, forcing both the offensive and defensive coordination to methodically attack each other in order to achieve their respective goals. Careful and well thought out strategy is the name of the game, much more so than relying on frantic, on the field playmaking. The additions of the vision cone, Truck Stick, Superstar mode (among other new features) are key in making Madden NFL 2006 quite different from last year, and a much better experience. So realistic you can practically smell the jockstrap funk, this year's version of Madden is simply not to be missed.

Madden NFL 06 is a hulking, beastly football game that's a bit too big for its new handheld britches. It nails most of the important things, like the gameplay and the online content, but the game's beefy, versatile Franchise mode is a technical wreck. Still, its sheer depth makes it a relatively safe choice for patient fans of video gridiron. Just be prepared for a few too many time-outs.

Madden NFL 06 would be a great upgrade even if weren't the only NFL-licensed football game around. Kudos to EA Sports for not being afraid to juice the complexity factor of an already complex game. Rookies will have to pay their dues, but veterans get treated to a brand-new challenge. And if you're somewhere in between you should just enjoy the game.

So once again, there are new features with Madden NFL 06, but really, it almost feels like the same game from a year ago. Is this review going to sway you one way or another? Probably not. But I hope it does give you an idea of what you’re spending your money on. Either way, Madden NFL 06 is one of the best football games you can buy today... until the Xbox 360 version comes out.

Madden 06 is a must buy for any Xbox gamer who’s a football fan. Trust me, anyone who decides to pick this one up won’t be taking it out of their console anytime soon. It delivers with an innovative new mode of play and superb in-game additions. The overall presentation is drastically improved as well, and Madden 06 has the best soundtrack of any EA Sports game to date. If you were worried that EA wouldn’t deliver because of the lack of competition, put your worries to rest; this game is a good buy for both the casual and the hardcore football fan.

Overall, Madden NFL 06 is a new direction for the series. With changes in button configuration and new features, the learning curve is a bit steeper. There is a way to convert back to the controls for Madden 05 controls, but the new button set can be advantageous, especially the X button for the "new" running ability. With the mix of QB Vision Control and the new running scheme, the game is actually quite enjoyable and is one step closer to being a realistic sim game. If you are a fan, you have either already picked up – or will pick up – this title and enjoy it (after several hours of practice, of course). For those who are new and preferred the some other football series, this isn't a bad place to start (not that you have a choice in the matter).

Instead of resting on its laurels, the Madden franchise takes a big step forward with Madden 06. My expectations were kept at a minimum at first, but the game washed away the doubts after I spent some quality time with it. Madden 06 has definitely taken the Madden franchise to the next level.

Give EA credit for putting out the superior product everybody feared they might not put out with the exclusive NFL license. This is definitely a great football game, even though it could reach a hall-of-fame level of excellence with better presentation values particularly in the announcing booth and by possibly using the ESPN license it confiscated from 2K Sports and replicating the ESPN studio analysis that was part of ESPN 2K5). Superior controls and artificial intellect go a long way to making this a quality simulation of NFL football on the field. Another great franchise mode and online play with a multi-faceted selection of modes (including tournaments) give Madden enough Pro Bowl-level features to once again win over its own legion of fans and also fans of the departed NFL 2K franchise.

Madden NFL 06 naturally brings back all the things gamers have come to love from the series. The game still includes an insanely deep franchise mode, complete with practices, fantasy drafts, trades, salary-cap considerations and coverage in local and national newspapers. It still includes mini-games in which gamers can work on their offensive and defensive efficiency. It still includes online play and user-created tournaments. And it still includes roster updates, complete with the newest rookies from this year’s draft. Most years, that would round out the updates, but EA also introduces an entirely new gameplay mode and passing mechanic to Madden NFL 06. But they’re not as awe-inspiring as EA might have hoped.

“Madden 2006” is a great game of football packaged inside a solid videogame. Say what you will about EA and their checkbook. Say what you will about the NFL and their decision to sell the exclusive rights. Say what you will about the merits of competition. But please, don’t say the guys and gals at Tiburon rested on their laurels this year. They don’t control EA’s money or the NFL’s rights. They handled the one thing they had control over…the product. No matter what you think about the other players in this game, tip your helmet to the folks at Tiburon. They did their job and they did it well.

I see Madden NFL 06 as a fitting ending to EA’s football tenure on this-gen Xbox. Overall, it’s the best football game they have made to date, but it’s hard to gauge how it has advanced compared to the competition, for as previously mentioned, there is no competition. While I personally feel that competition in capitalism breeds stronger products for consumers, it doesn’t appear that EA rolled over and played dead just because they were the only kid on the block. In fact, quite the opposite seems true. In the context of the situation (last year for the current Xbox, no competition), EA has done a fine job with Madden NFL 06. Fine enough (in conjunction with the silly Alexander demo) to get me psyched about EA’s Xbox 360 offerings.

While there's no denying that Madden NFL 06 is better than the previous versions, this year's big additions don't quite live up to the expectations placed upon them. Although it's true that the QB Vision system changes the game dramatically, it's not always for the better, especially when you're still trying to learn how to use it properly. If you can get over the steep learning curve (and trust me, it's a doozy), you'll probably learn to love it, as it makes the game feel much more realistic. If not, just turn it off and go back to playing the way you always have. Still, you've got to give EA credit for trying to improve their product. After all, isn't better to reach for the stars and fall short than not to reach at all?

Madden 2006 is a great game of football and while most of us game journalists say that every year, this time it's true. For the first time in years, the game has been redesigned which completely alters the gameplay at its core. Tiburon appears not to be satisfied with just creating an entertaining representation of video football but to advance the realism so that the experience brings players that much closer to what it feels like being on the gridiron. They've succeeded. 2006 is a must buy for most Madden faithful.

Overall, Madden NFL ’06 is the best football game on the market. Electronic Arts took an amazing product, and instead of slacking off, they added a bunch of things to make this the most addictive Madden yet. However, if you don’t want to go through the hassle of learning the QB Vision, and the lack of depth in NFL Superstar mode makes it look not so attractive, then by all means, save yourself some money and just buy yourself last year’s version. But don’t worry EA, the millions of hardcore Madden fans will continue to buy each year’s installment of your wonderful football game.

The growing of this franchise sounds inevitable, but one only has to remember last year's Madden to know that this isn't always the case. Although the series could certainly improve some gameplay problems here and there, we're not only seeing its betterment with this year's installment, we're seeing real growth. Whether it's the first steps of an online franchise via your EA Locker or your life as the equivalent to Budweiser's Leon in NFL Superstar, Madden's exploration of new areas is not to be missed.

The completely overhauled Madden '06 is one of the best entrants in the venerable series and is arguably the most advancing football game since Sega's NFL 2K. It is at times easier and much more challenging than its predecessors, and is a fine game even if there are no other NFL choices on the market.

Exclusive license in hand, Madden is back. But let's face it, not much has really changed in the past few years. EA's signature franchise has played with new controls and slightly improved the defensive AI, but fundamentally, the series has been static. This year, however, some real changes are taking place. With an all-new play mode focused on superstar players, a revamped passing system, and new moves on both sides of the line of scrimmage, Madden NFL 06 is definitely bigger than ever. But is it better?

Much has been printed in recent months about the deal the National Football League made with Electronic Arts, in which the NFL granted EA Sports exclusive rights to its name, teams, and players, singlehandedly crushing Madden NFL's ever-rising competition. Even a blind man could understand EA's motivation, for better or worse; after Sega and Take Two took a huge a huge and costly gamble of selling ESPN NFL 2K5 for merely $20, which resulted in cutting into Madden's sales for the first time, EA took the easiest way out, by making sure nobody else could make an NFL game, much to the chagrin of NFL 2Kx fans across the country.

It's evident that Tiburon was really pushing the limit as far as experimenting with the vision cone and realism. The game might just take a tiny step over the line of being too real. There's a reason why only a select few are able to play in the NFL and make difficult reads and such. We gamers want to enjoy that thrill, just not with the frustration that can go along with it. The learning curve is higher this year, but once you get use to everything and become comfortable, the game really shines. EA hasn't disappointed with the exclusive license and that's definitely a plus. Keep in mind that Madden '06 is also set to debut with the Xbox 360. So if you plan on getting a 360, you might want to see what EA can do on the next-gen systems. This is definitely a great game to get your football fix for the real NFL season. Nothing beats it.

XboxIGN
It's likely Tiburon did a little experimentation on this, the last Madden released before the next gen systems drop, to test out some ideas. In the first year where Madden is all we get when it comes to licensed pro football, I was expecting more. But then again, maybe EA's exclusivity with the NFL will hamper their annual improvements, being that their only opponent this year is what, Blitz? A franchise that became so enjoyable and successful like this one will incidentally force itself under a microscope to be revered or criticized when any radical change occurs.

Guess what, Madden 2006 is a great football game. But so was Madden 2005, and besides precision passing and QB vision, there is no big reason for casual fans to absolutely lay down 50 bucks for the same game with different lineups. But for fans of the series and sports nuts, grab a copy from your local videogame retailer and have a ball.

To give credit where credit's due, Tiburon annually manages to find ways to creatively invoke refreshing new substance into the Madden franchise -- when all it really needs to do is update rosters to sell, and sell big. It's a commendable stance that EA Sports has taken with regards to it meal ticket, as there has never been new stuff just for the sake of throwing it in. These improvements have been significant ones too, albeit sometimes very small. Rarely, in its 16 years of life, has the series stuttered or stepped back due to a faulty new feature or detrimental gameplay implementation... and in the last few years Madden has been nothing less than immersive and fun.

This game, without a shadow of a doubt, is the most impressive sports game at launch for the 360. Take the time to take in the graphics and sounds and the experience will be worthwhile. Think about how you can’t make a replica of yourself and get drafted by the San Francisco 49ers and allow them to relive their glory, and you may want to experience the titles on the older systems with the NFL Superstar mode. This is only the beginning of what will surely be an unbelievable franchise for the next-gen systems, and what a beginning it is. Madden 06 will surely look to impress 360 buyers this holiday season, and after five minutes, Madden 06's impression will be undeniable.

Overall, I do think Madden 2006 offers enough improvements to keep fans of the series happy. The new QB Vision cone passing system is a bit hard to get used to, but it ultimately brings the best new feature in the entire game with it, which is the Precision Passing ability. The new NFL Superstar mode and the Truck Stick are good ideas as well, it’s just that they seemed slightly rushed and aren’t as polished as they could be. Ultimately, this year’s version will satisfy most hardcore Madden fans, but newcomers may want to wait until this fall when they can play Madden 2006 in the way it was intended.

In the first year of exclusivity EA and Tiburon have somewhat dropped the ball, but Madden 06 is still a fantastic game to play. The additions of the Vision Cone passing and Superstar mode are great ideas, but they are just not implemented correctly. Madden 06 is still a great game, it is just that the gameplay additions like the Truck stick and offensive line options might not give a person enough reason to pick this game up. I hope this game on the Xbox 360 is an improvement over this last major entry into the current generation of consoles. If Tiburon can do enough different it may see a change in opinion about the NFL exclusivity deal from the vast legion of videogame sports fans. This is still a great game and it is the only licensed NFL game out there whether you like it or not.

Overall, the first year of the exclusive deal with the NFL didn’t exactly pan out as well as many gamers would’ve hoped. Madden 06 on PSP is a solid game. It's definitely Madden in the palm of your hands, and the PSP to PS2 connectivity pronounces that fact even better. It has the look, sound and feel of the console versions, and for that I'm grateful. Everything from the online play to the depth here makes this a great addition to PSP libraries everywhere. I just wish things could've been tuned better so that loading was faster. Madden is known as a fast and fluid brand of football games, and it's necessary to have that quality when you got some momentum in a football game. It doesn't ruin the experience, but it is a scratch on what would otherwise be a gleaming finish.

Many people expected more from EA when they were granted the exclusive NFL License, but after playing many games with this new title, I can see that EA is trying to stay committed and as close to the NFL as you can get without actually being tackled by 300-pound linemen. But one glaring problem that seems to face Madden is the A.I., specifically the blocking. If EA can manage to fix these problems so that Madden can start out with a bang on the next-gen consoles, than I’m sure EA will have one hell of a football game. We all hope they can deliver.

Is it just me, or does NCAA 06 look better? The kicking game is way too hard - I've never seen so many out-of-bounds kick-offs or missed extra points in my life! Another thing I don't like is how you can't preview your receiver icons without displaying their routes. The right stick is supposed to let you unleash devastating hits on defense, but these look awfully soft to me. Similarly, the "speed burst" move is barely perceptible. Maybe EA should add an "Arcade" mode to spice things up. And where are the cheerleaders, half-time show, chain measurements, and other niceties you'd expect from a mature franchise? Madden plays great but there's still room for improvement. I personally prefer EA's NCAA offering this year.

Madden 06 is either going to be a breath of fresh air or a huge disappointment - there's no way to know until you play the game. The developers should be applauded for trying such drastic changes, even if all of the new additions aren't that enjoyable. If you're tired of the same old thing, then give Madden 06 a shot. If you fear change, maybe some more quality time with Madden 2005 will suit you just fine.

For as great as Madden NFL 06 is overall, you can't help but be at least somewhat disappointed by the game as a whole, if only because of how frequently superb the franchise has been in recent years. Many of the things that make Madden consistently enjoyable are front and center yet again, but the justification for buying this newest Madden--if you already own last year's game--is tough to find. The new passing cone can be enjoyable, though it's definitely the kind of thing that will certainly be better and more refined in the years to come. It's a bit of a pain as it is now. And the superstar mode, while excellent in concept, simply fails to deliver an engaging experience. And in the absence of these two things, what you effectively have is Madden NFL 2005, with a few very subtle changes and some problems that weren't originally there.

Welcome to a special edition of NLG Sports! Tonight our lead story is Madden '06 finally making it to the first next generation console; the Xbox 360. Before we get started, I'm willing to bet that EA will never get someone to pose for the cover of Madden again! This "Madden Curse" thing may have more legs than anyone wants to admit. Last year Ray Lewis was on the cover and the Ravens stopped short of the playoffs and in all honesty are in total meltdown right now sitting at 2-7 and on the verge of firing our head coach.

If Madden is your yearly pick up, by all means go out and get it. You'll be receiving more of what you've grown to enjoy, but only aggravated by the QB Vision. Just because this is your only alternative for NFL this year doesn't mean you need to buy it. ESPN 2K5 is much better than Madden 06 and is only about $10 now. If you want something new however, go out and buy NCAA 06, also from EA, which runs circles around this year's Madden. Race for the Heisman and the presentation alone are well worth the money. Madden really needs to step up its game next year if they want to justify being the NFL exclusive for the next ten years.

Just in time for NFL training camp is the latest edition of EA Sports' football juggernaut, Madden NFL 06. With last year's Madden NFL 2005 focusing heavily on improving the defensive game and overall presentation of the series, while not necessarily adding any grand, new game modes to the package, 06 shifts the other way, going out of its way to specifically work on the offensive side of the ball by debuting all-new passing controls. On paper, all the additions and changes sound like fine improvements, but the end result isn't nearly as impressive as it seems like it ought to have been. In fact, Madden 06 comes off as a somewhat unfocused and unpolished piece of work, which is sort of a shocking revelation for a brand that's ridden high on its level of quality for so many years. Ultimately, Madden NFL 06 is a highly playable game of football, but in comparison with the leaps forward the franchise has made in previous years, 06 feels like a false start.

At the risk of flogging a dead horse I just have to say I’m a huge fan of fair competition, so I was understandably upset when EA snatched up the NFL license for the next five years. After seeing what has become of their exclusive NASCAR license I had little hope for the future of NFL, at least until 2K Sports could rejoin the fight, but this past week spent with Madden NFL 06 on the Xbox 360 might just be the positive sign I needed to regain my faith.

It's a bit unfair to say that Madden 06 is just like Madden 2005 with the addition of new Vision passing. There's a lot more to it than that -- some of it is in how the game plays rather than in new features. There are annoyances that remain unfixed, and Superstar mode simply needs to get dumped for next year, but Madden 06 is the only NFL game in town, PC or otherwise, and while it might fall short of championship material, it's still an excellent game that will get fans through the upcoming season.

WindowsComputer Gaming World (CGW)
Once you get past the vision control quirks, Madden 06 is essentially the same in-depth game that Madden 2005 is, but with better offensive A.I. and more key commands. You can still take a winning team to the Super Bowl in franchise mode, customize your own player In create-a-player mode, and even follow your custom player through an entire career in superstar mode, which plays like a sort of weird amalgamation of the two. And— most important—it’s still easy to smack down your buddies over the Internet. Armchair quarterbacks should appreciate the new options, and longtime fans are treated to more of the same kick-ass gameplay that has made Madden the unstoppable juggernaut it is today.

I must say that I'm impressed but slightly disappointed with this Xbox 360 version of Madden 06. After some time, I really like the new playcalling, the on-field controls, and especially the beautiful graphics. However, I'm let down by the lack of gameplay modes. There could have been so much more to do with this game. Hopefully next season EA Sports can throw in some of the gameplay modes that made Madden so different while improving on a few of the annoyances.

Madden is all we get when it comes to licensed pro football, so I was expecting more. A franchise that became so enjoyable and successful like this one will incidentally force itself under a microscope to be revered or criticized when any radical change occurs. Despite a few faults, however, Madden NFL 06 is still a fantastic game, just not as much fun to play as it has been the last few years. For those gamers who only buy Madden as their one game a year, maybe this could be your favorite installment yet, but for everyone else, 2006 feels like a stutter step or experimental addition to the franchise that has failed to outdo itself for the first time in recent memory.

For now, Madden NFL 06 remains a comprehensive game of football. Its gameplay, while not entirely benefitted from the new features, remains as sharp as a tack, and the presentation is still the best this current generation has seen. The Superstar Mode also has its moments that will keep you glued to your player's progression, and the additional modes and customization features will probably bury you in your living room months after your wife leaves you. This whole thing has taught me a valuable lesson- you can't really judge a book by its cover. Just because EA has the only NFL game in town doesn't mean it shouldn't be a good one. Fortunately for us, it is.

So, as EA's leading franchise, what did we hope for? A game built from the bottom up specifically for Xbox 360? Yep. A Madden that looked absolutely gorgeous? Hell, yeah. A game that packed in all the modes we've come to love and expect over the years? Definitely. And what have we got? Well, on the first two things, EA has nailed it. On the third, well... if we're generous, we'll say that the short development time and the requirements of embarking on a new title rather than simply porting the old one across means there's been inevitable changes. The exhaustive options, which have been a staple of the series for so long, have all but disappeared.

With every other pc football series dead and gone (anyone remember Front Page Sports: Football?) Madden NFL is not just the reigning king of PC football--it's the only option PC gamers have. But no matter how much the EA "haterade" seems to flow (especially following the publisher's exclusive licensing agreement with the NFL), it's hard to find fault with the Madden games. Unsurprisingly, Madden 06 is another deep, engrossing football simulator...with some extra features and a semi-irritating learning curve.

While this fact may be unsettling to some PC loyalists, Madden 06 PC atleast brings the latest EA branded NFL action on offer over to the PC, and while the game remains similar to 2005, there are quite a few impacting changes that add up, mainly in the "realistic gameplay" department, which is excellent to see. However, with that said, again we see some features missing from the PC version and you really have to wonder why considering it was yet again released after the console version - surely allowing plenty of time to add a few minor missing features. The simple fact is, besides the ability to change some visual quality settings such as detail and resolution and custom playbook/team options, EA aren't giving many reasons for gamers to continue playing Madden PC, and there hasn't been a "PC Only" feature added for years now.

It's somewhat strange to be playing a Madden NFL game and not be hearing its namesake's inanities every play -- it's also a welcome relief. His new role, providing "Ask Madden" playcalling advice is a much better fit. It lets him do his thing: break down the game, drawing on his experience as a coach -- exactly what he's been doing on TV for years. It reflects the game's shift in spirit. Madden 06 on the 360 isn't so much about having it "in the game" as it is about simply being the game.

Although there are a few issues here and there, Xbox 360 owners should pick up a copy of Madden NFL 06 on launch day. Now, that's not to say that Madden fans should run out to buy an Xbox 360 just to play the game. Many hardcore fans will be disappointed by the number of features that were removed from the game, especially the highly entertaining minicamp drills and the deeper elements of the game's Franchise mode. However, if you're the type of player who just wants to play the nicest looking football game in history, buying Madden NFL 06 is a no-brainer.

Overall, it is clear what the developers have tried to do with its first foray into the world of Xbox 360 American football games. The graphical 'wow' factor is certainly there which will provide any non HD-TV owning gamer with as good as any excuse to remedy that fact (although the game still looks barn stormingly good on a normal TV), however the key issue is whether these looks alone are enough to hold the gamer's attention. While the title is still undoubtedly fun to play it lacks real depth thanks to the somewhat bizarre removal of key modes, and the ones that have made the cut are somewhat watered down versions of their former selves. However this game is still a must for any American football lover if only due to the lack of competition on the new platform. In conclusion, the underlying tone is that EA Tiburon's first steps into the world of next-generation football are solid if unspectacular. But as is often the case with EA, there's always next year.

As the first simulation football game on the PSP, Madden 06 gets more than enough right to recommend. It's got its quirks, for sure, as well as a few serious annoyances, but the gameplay is undeniably great. EA will undoubtedly work out many of these kinks for next year's game. However, there's more than enough quality content in this package to make this year's game worthwhile for any PSP-owning football fan.

So, essentially what we have for the 2006 version of Madden on the Game Boy Advance is last year's game plus Mini Camps. The final product isn't quite as impressive a presentation as what we got last year simply because we've already been impressed with the drastic change in imagery for Madden 2005. It's still a satisfying Madden experience, since the underlying foundation was a solid one. And even when the GBA can't keep up with all the features of the console design, there's something charming about this portable version, as if it's keeping the spirit of the classic 16-bit versions alive.

It may sound like I'm being hard on a series that is still finding its way on new hardware, but at a minimum I wanted this game to give me a reason to stop playing the current-gen version of Madden - but it hasn't. If you are a diehard Madden fan, then it won't really matter much what this review says. But if you are undecided about getting the game, I would highly recommend renting it first. It is not a bad game, but I really don't see but a few differences from last year's incarnation, and of those, there really isn't anything I couldn't live without. Overall, Madden 2006 is not the huge advancement many might expect from a new year and especially a year when they are the only game in town, but the game still plays solid, the rosters are updated, and the new modes may appeal to those coming over from the competition. I just hope with the newly acquired rights to the ESPN license that EA takes full use of it and gives us TV style presentation that we have never witnessed. I'm also curious to see how the Xbox 360 version turns out later this year. For now, if you want football, Madden is your choice, but millions of fans can't be wrong can they?

In the end Madden 06 for the Xbox is typical of the Madden releases on this generation of consoles. It's still basically the same game as before only with some significant tweaks. With the Madden 360 version looming on the horizon, the swan song on the current Xbox is a solid game with some of the same old frustrations combined with some sharp new features. It appears that reports of the birth of next-generation football on consoles have been greatly exaggerated. Yes, Madden NFL 06 has made its debut on the Xbox 360--but not in a form that could really be called next gen. Certainly this is a graphically impressive game that's far better than anything you've seen on the current roster of consoles. Player models, stadiums, tackles, catches, and throws have never looked this good before. But beyond the impressive technology backing EA's newest football game lies a number of holdover issues that stand out all the more blatantly when placed in direct contrast to the game's newest graphical components. Plus, there's really very little about Madden 06's gameplay that you haven't seen before. And for that matter, there's a lot you have seen before that's simply just missing from this edition. So, while the graphics of Madden have eked their way into the next-generation, the rest of the game still has a ways to go.

With no online play to be found (even though the US version is fully online enabled) and only minor improvements in gameplay, 06 seems like a step backwards from previous years - which is something of a surprise considering the series' stellar track record. One of the risks that the NFL took when consummating the exclusive license deal, was that EA could get away with releasing less-than-stellar games because they faced no competition. Madden 06 for the PSP was released too soon - there's simply no denying that fact. With features missing such as instant replay and challenging plays, and bugs that will crash games and others that ruin player progression, the game could have used some more time in the shop. While some may chalk it up these issues to a learning curve or the PSP not being able to handle it, NBA Live 06 has already proven that great sports games can be pulled off on the PSP. Even with all of its problems, Madden 06 is easily the best football game to ever grace a handheld, but it's only worth $50 if you're really hankering for some pigskin on the go.

Overall, Madden NFL 2006 for the Xbox 360 is really a mixed bag. The general lack of standard features, piss-poor achievements, and graphical hitching ultimately hurt the quality of the title. That means this is full of glitches, gameplay quirks, and it's nearly featureless compared to the other versions of Madden. What makes it worth playing? It's the closest we've ever come to a true, current Madden on a handheld, not just a port from the previous generation. In short, the people that should love the franchise mode may be put off by the performance. In addition to the sluggish menus, load times are too frequent and too long. Although it's far from perfect, Madden NFL 06 builds a solid foundation for the future of handheld football games. Most of the game's problems seem to be due to the fact that the Madden team was working on the system for the first time, so expect to see plenty of improvement next time out. As much as we love those menus, though, it bothers us that Madden 06 for the PSP, I mean Xbox 360, is missing so much content. Football games devolving? If you've got last year's version of Madden NFL, then you don't need this one. It's so disappointing to see such little improvement in this series. It's been stale since the newly designed engine was introduced last year. But that was last year. This year's version is riding the crest of that wave with a few upgrades in the graphic department and the inclusion of a Mini Camp Mode. Overall Madden NFL 06 is a great game to get if you want to show off the graphics capabilities of the Xbox 360. The gameplay does have a whole lot of potential. Of course, all this criticism only really counts if you're quite fanatical about American Football, in the same way that, say, Americans might happen to be. If that accurately describes you, then as a Xbox 360 owner, you're a bit starved for choice. Still, you'd be better served waiting a little longer for the inevitable Madden '07. At the casual level you're more likely to be wowed by the visuals and less likely to notice the omissions and gaffes; still, it's hard to overlook the fact that the older Madden games for the Xbox/PS2 actually offer more than this supposedly "next generation" title.

Of course, all this criticism only really counts if you're quite fanatical about American Football, in the same way that, say, Americans might happen to be. Nintendo DSG4 TV: X-Play
Madden NFL 06 is a step in the right direction when it comes to value-added features, but the in-game action is woefully inadequate when compared to its console counterparts. Instead of trying to recreate the console experience, the developers would be better off designing a game from scratch to take better advantage of the system’s dual screens and interactive features. Unless you absolutely have to have football on the go, it’s best to follow cover star Donovan McNabb’s lead: pass and enjoy a nice bowl of soup instead. Mama will be proud.

Xbox 360The Review Busters
I won't lie when I got the idea to review Madden NFL 2006 and 2007 before the newest Madden came out I got excited, my gamer score was going to go up big time. My friends might give me a hard time about it, but they are just jealous, plus I did this for reviewing purposes. How can you give me a hard time about it? Oh wait I think I mainly talked about my achievement point journey. Ummm Madden NFL 2006 has pretty graphics and there are a few glitches in this version, not seen in the other versions. EA Sports rushed this out so don't waste....wait buy this if it's cheap, you can get an easy 1000 points added to your gamer score.
