Room for improvement exists for any game, though there isn't too much here. The clever new minigames utilize unusual button arrangements and can be tough to control, while the in-game commentary tends to feel sparse and bare-boned, especially when compared to the constant broadcast chatter of NCAA. Rarely do a new platform's first generation titles live up to their potential and hype--but with Madden NFL 07, the second- and third-generation entries in this stellar series are going to have some mighty big cleats to fill.

Madden NFL has been the only game in town for awhile now, but the new additions in NFL 07 make it a must have for serious and casual fans alike. It's Madden like you've never played it before and that's something we haven't said in a long time.

In closing as an NFL fan, EA have given me a huge smile to walk around with. Madden NFL 2007 does have its slight problems but the gameplay is top notch and well worth your pounds and pence to experience what its like to be part of the NFL.

That's the great thing about this game. For every complaint, there's some positive aspect that keeps it enjoyable. It may not have flashy visuals, tons of modes or cool sliding menus, but Madden Wii does what its brethren will never come close to doing, which is get the non-gamers involved. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess may receive all of the attention, but Madden NFL 07 demonstrates the Wii's true potential better than any funny looking elf ever will.

With the next generation going into full force this Christmas, many are probably wondering if they should invest in a Madden title for their current platform or wait for the shiny new ones to come out. Madden 07 for the PlayStation 2 lives up to the series legacy, delivering a AAA performance with new features and evolved gameplay mechanics. If the Xbox 360 version has all these features then I'd definitely recommend you go with that version. But if PS2 is all you got, or if you just can't wait any longer – don't. This current-gen version doesn't disappoint.

Madden NFL 07 is one of those games that makes you think you can hold off on that decision to buy a next generation game system for just a little while longer, at least until after football season.

All that aside, I can't give Madden 2007 for PSP a perfect score, but it's still a great portable football title. This game just feels right. It's portable football goodness. Did I mention it's portable? Finally, a handheld football game that doesn't suck.

Madden has graced us with the greatest update of the genre since ’04, and once you pick up this year’s version you can never go back. This, of course, is no more true than on 360, where last year’s version was a huge disappointment. Madden ’07 is still a tad lighter than its console brother’s in the content department, such as the Madden Card and all the rewards therein, but this is easily forgiveable. This year will be the greatest Maddenday ever, Madden be praised!

Xbox 360PGNx Media
Madden NFL 07 manages to add new features, include previously removed features, and make the gameplay more solid than already was. Although not quite a revolution, it is an enjoyable and undoubtedly worthwhile evolution in the next-generation Madden franchise.

The more I play Madden NFL 07, the more I love it. It seems like every single time I play, I see something new, do something new and enjoy something new. Single player has never been deeper and more varied, while the online and multiplayer play is just as wonderful as it has always been. I haven't enjoyed a football game like this in a few years; this may be the only NFL simulation on the market, but you'd never know it by playing it - EA went above and beyond with Madden 07. There's no doubt that this will end up being one of the top selling 360 games by Christmas, if not the top, and both casual and hardcore fans alike should waste no time in grabbing hold of it - even if this means tackling that guy with the last copy who's making his way to the checkout!

I've been playing Madden games since the Genesis days, and Madden NFL 07 for the Wii is the most fun I've had with the franchise in a long time. Maybe it's the sheer novelty aspect of the control that has me hooked, and I'll quite possibly get tired of the game if I can't find enough people to play with, seeing as how there's no online support for the console. But on its own merits, Madden 07 for the Wii is as exciting a development in sports games as I've seen in a long time, and should be experienced by anyone with even a passing interest in a good game of football. Now, how about an adjustable foot strap for the Wii Remote, so we can get some similar FIFA 08 action next year?

WiiPGNx Media
While on other platforms, Madden NFL 07 introduced a few wrinkles; on the Wii it is an entirely different beast. The game works extremely well with the Wii Remote and it’s great that EA took the time to deliver a compelling product instead of taking the Gamecube version and just adding a minigame or too. The game is definitely recommended, even if you’ve already picked up a version on another platform.

Xbox 360GameZone
A truly robust next-gen console experience. The build received for this review had some frame-rate problems and the load times seemed long (perhaps because of the anticipation of playing the game), but this is generally a top-drawer title, with great graphics and sound, and game mechanics that are very close to real life.

Despite being more intuitive, Madden 07 is also fun. Throwing the ball and seeing the motion echoed onscreen can give a huge sense of empowerment. Furthermore, the controls make Madden a whole new experience, meaning a repeat purchase might be worth considering for those who've already picked up the GCN installment. It's not much of a stretch to say that Wii might have the best version of Madden 07 out there.

It may be old hat, but Madden NFL 07 for the last-gen Xbox shows new dogs some old tricks. The core gameplay elements of this SKU are down-pat, which makes the extra features such as Superstar mode that much more enjoyable. I can overlook the lack of online leagues or dazzling graphics for a stout basic foundation, which this title certainly has. Madden NFL 07 is proof positive that the last-gen Xbox is still alive and kicking. Solid basics overshadow flashy graphics and jazzed-up secondary modes any day of the week.
87
PlayStation 2PGNx Media
Madden NFL 07 manages to add a few wrinkles to an established franchise. It’s also quite possibly the last Madden title to appear on either the Xbox or the Gamecube, though we’ll probably see the franchise continue on PS2 for a few years. It’s hard to improve on such an established series, but Madden NFL 07 does that on current generation consoles. It isn’t revolutionary, but the game still delivers a mean game of football.
87
Xbox 360GameTrailers
Madden NFL 07 for the 360 is a huge leap forward for the series, especially compared to last year's game. But it still falls a little short thanks to some annoying bugs and some gameplay issues that have been around for the past half decade. It's loaded with modes--some good, some bad, and if you felt burned by last year's game, the 07 iteration will restore your faith in the franchise, if only a little bit.

Madden NFL 07 for the Nintendo Wii is a great game. The developers really took the time necessary to make sure the game felt very responsive and not gimmicky. After playing the game on the Nintendo Wii it is hard to go back to the other versions as the game now draws you in it more and makes you feel that you are more a part of the game.

WiiGameTrailers
If you’re a Wii-owning sports fan don’t hesitate in picking up Madden NFL 07. Wii Sports can only last so long, and Madden will surely be a big hit at your holiday gatherings with old college buddies or family. There are also enough options to keep it in rotation well into next year. The low-rent visuals are a disappointment, even for the Wii, but it’s a clear demonstration of how well the Wii controls can work in the right hands. Best of all, it comes from a place that no one ever expected.

Overall, I did enjoy playing Madden on the Wii. Being the third version of the game I played this year, I still can’t say that I’m tired of the series. The Wii version even came out with something new and fresh for me to try and was entertaining. While some of the new control methods weren’t implemented as well as they possibly could have been, they don’t detract too much from the overall experience. If you’ve waited to purchase a version of Madden this generation and are deciding between the Wii and a current-gen console, I’d recommend you give the Wii version a shot if the potential control issues don’t scare it off. However, if you already own one or two versions of Madden, I’d probably wait until next year unless you’re really itching to get your hands on the new controls as they are the only real reason to justify the purchase since you’ve probably played the heck out of this one already on the Xbox or PS2.

Xbox 360Da Gameboyz
Madden NFL 07 certainly lived up to my expectations and is a significant leap from last years version. The graphics are superb and the sound is sharp. The Superstar and Franchise modes are engaging and add further depth to this game. The overall gameplay has also been improved and it what makes this one of the highest selling games. There is certainly lots of room for improvement but Rome wasn’t built in a day. Eventually, EA will put out the perfect NFL game; unfortunately it’s not this year. That being said, every NFL fan with a 360 will likely own Madden NFL 07 and so they should as it has finally entered the realm of Next Generation.

Xbox 360TalkXbox
Madden NFL 07 is everything we hoped 06 to be and more. The gameplay is loads of fun, and the game is packed with numerous features. Madden fans of any size have no reason to avoid purchasing this one, and newcomers to the franchise will probably be sucked in for good.

WiiGamer Within
The lifespan and overall replay value of Madden 07 is huge. Franchise will take you weeks to complete, and Superstar on it’s own is bigger then the Edward James Dome. Throw in all the extra modes - Mini-camp, Madden cards, cheats, unlockables and multiplayer - you’re set for a few months. On the whole Madden 07 is an excellent title. Instead of turning out an average game for Wii, EA went to town and custom built the game, playing on it’s strengths with the Wii’s controller and offering a diverse (yet not too much) game to inject new life into the Madden universe. It does have some minor problems, but they are mainly insignificant. Madden suddenly became fun to play again, well done EA.

Besides The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, this is easily the best launch game for the Wii. Although it shows that it is a launch title with its graphics (faces), the controls and gameplay are excellent. This is the most excited I have been about a Madden game since Madden 2001 for the PS2. It is clear that EA put a lot of time and effort into configuring Madden to the Wii's new controller. Their efforts were not in vain because this is definitely the best and most fun Madden game I have played in many years.

PSPGameZone
Madden NFL 07 makes some much needed improvements over last year’s game, with improved running controls and shorter load times, taking better advantage of the PSP’s hardware. The game still has a few technical flaws, but all in all, this is the best football experience you can get on the PSP.

Overall, my recommendation of Madden 07 on the Xbox 360 is conditional – if the items I’ve presented in the above list aren’t game breakers for you, the 360 version is a very worthy heir to the Madden throne. If, however, you’d really miss the ability to have a fantasy draft or playing with your buddy on the same team, you might just want to wait for Madden 08. Hopefully, EA gets everything right next year and brings out a full-featured game – the community likely won’t be as forgiving of these types of omissions next time.

The more I played Madden last year, the less I liked it. I've had the complete opposite feeling for Madden 07. Sure, there are still some flaws, but even if you just played Superstar mode, Madden is worth the money. This is the year EA Sports finally shows 360 owners what the series is all about, the trash talking, the head-to-head competition, the ability to create yourself and become a bigger star than the Seahawk on the box. Forget the curse, I'm headed to the Hall, one block, one IQ test, and two athletic parents at a time. This is the Madden gamers have come to know and love. Welcome back. Only next time, remember to bring Owner mode.

Madden 07 delivers an astonishingly authentic sensory experience that absolutely blows away older versions of the game -- which now look grainy and stilted in contrast -- and even ups the ante on the 06 edition. That Terrell Owens now not only looks like Terrell Owens but also makes TO-styled maneuvers that are clearly distinctive from the personalized moves of Madden 07 cover boy Shaun Alexander will hold much appeal for serious players. Audio, conversely, is unremarkable. On the field, the sounds are on the money. But up in the booth, where Al Michaels seems withdrawn, the news is not as good; Madden is absurdly obvious, and the stadium announcer consistently interferes with both commentators.
85
WiiIGN
Madden 07 offers a faster and more brutal game of football, and the added motion control makes pulling off complex football maneuvers easier than it’s ever been. The game is constantly offering pointers to newcomers as well, whether it’s in the on-the-fly tutorials accessible at any time during a game, or in the success/failure prompts that tell you instantly if your motion was too early, too late, or dead on. Madden 07 leaves definite room for improvement, but it’s a tremendous leap in the right direction. If Madden 07 is any indication expect EA and Nintendo to become very, very good friends this generation.

Madden 07 is a curious game. I can't, in all honesty, say that it is a better choice for die-hard Madden players. Having to relearn all the controls over again is enough to frustrate those who've been playing since the Genesis days, and it does require a significantly greater amount of physical exertion then its counterparts. Likewise, it lacks online play, so those who plan to play alone will quickly outgrow the computer. However, for those who don't normally play Madden or who are looking for a good party version of Madden, I can not recommend a better version then the Wii. Of all the Madden games released since the days of the Genesis, Madden 07 for the Wii is the first that I was honestly excited to play. EA Sports didn't let me down, and when Madden 08 comes out, the Wii version is the one I'll pick up.

The game proves that standard console experiences - ones that have become commonplace after 20 years of d-pad gaming - can not only be executed on the Wii, but can be drastically improved beyond a shadow of a doubt and opened up to a new world of gamers. Any game that can make people who hate the genre have fun is worthy of unending praise, and EA has accomplished creating just that - and this does wonders not just for EA's Wii division, but for the console itself.

It's a ton of fun, especially if a friend gets involved. The motion controls really adds to the competitive experience of the game and should lead to some intense living room battles. But the game itself has a distinctive retro feel, with its lackluster graphics. Still, there's something about acting out the motions that makes the Wii version so much fun. It's a great new direction for the venerated franchise and I'd take it over the analog-stick Madden games any day of the week.

Does it matter? I mean, really. I’m having a hard time thinking what I, or anyone writes about Madden is going to have no impact on anything. Not that I think I have some kind of power over anyone at any time, but this game is in its own world. You’re either getting it, or you're not. By the sales numbers every year, I’m going to assume you’ve already got it. While it’s a better game than it was last year for the 360, it really isn’t THE football video game that we hoped for. I’ve always said that the best day of Madden football you will have every year will be the day before it’s released. At that point, there’s all sorts of hope and dreams running through your head. You have this vision of the greatest gaming experience of your life in just 24 short hours. Then the reality hits and you’ll settle into a pretty good football game that leaves you wanting more and waiting for next year.

In the end, Madden NFL 07 is an improvement on the series. With some new running features and an Xbox 360 version worth the price of admission, it seems EA is trying to prove that they still care about improving their game, even without competition. Sadly, the 360 version fell short of what was expected of it, and the current-gen versions are still superior. If you plan to play Madden '07 until next year's version comes out, you'd be better off getting it for the PS2 or another current-gen console in order to get the most features available in the franchise mode, allowing you to play the game longer. However, if you plan on picking it up just to have a football game to play on and off, by all means get it for the 360. It's not perfect, but the better graphics and better online play make up for the shortcomings—as long as you aren't looking for a huge franchise mode.

At its best, Madden NFL 07 can feel revelatory, if only because it takes the existing Madden gameplay and tweaks it nicely to work with the Wii technology. It would have been so easy to just cram in some lousy, half-baked motion controls and call it a day, but it seems like some legitimate care went into the updated design in this version of Madden. While there's certainly room to improve on this debut, it's a wonderful start for the series on the Wii. Even if you've picked up other editions of Madden this year, Madden on the Wii is absolutely worth playing, because it's a whole different ballgame.

While the inclusion of NFL Network mode and the redone Superstar mode reinvigorates the game, Madden NFL 07 still features so many of the same bugs and issues from previous years that should’ve been fixed a while ago. Considering that many of the gameplay features are extremely mild remixes of previously included gameplay options, this year’s Madden comes across as a solid title, but one that’s starting to show its age.

As you can see, a lot went in to this year's Madden game, and it gives gamers a lot of stuff to wrap their hands around. The Lead Blocking adds an all-new dimension to the game, the Superstar Mode lets you live the life of a NFL player, and the countless number of options and features add up to hours upon hours of enjoyment. You would think that sooner or later, EA Sports would run out of ideas for a football game, but each year they manage to come up with something new. Madden NFL 07 is definitely an improvement to the series, not as much as some may like, but it is still an improvement.

As we watch the current gen engine fade into the stratosphere, will EA truly deliver the most comprehensive football title known to man for the next generation gamers? I guess we will have to see what the team has in store next season as they not only will have to please Xbox 360 fans, but the soon-to-be rabid PS3 fans as well. For this year, it is another solid year of football gaming with enough lasting appeal to get you by 'til next season's opener.

Xbox 360Gamer 2.0
The Xbox 360 version will be the recommended one because it’s the one that takes a big step, but you won’t get the true bang for your buck because the game’s franchise mode isn’t as polished as the older console versions. So if you’re more inclined to pick up one of the older console versions, we’d recommend the PlayStation 2 version because its controller is probably the most user-friendly, and it has a connectivity feature with the PSP that allows you to transfer an entire season in Franchise Mode from the PS2 into your PSP. To those who, for some reason or another, have never played Madden, this one is definitely a must-have. To everyone else, either rent the game first or buy it later. Simply put, it’s everything you expect--another year of football with another year of Madden.

Madden NFL 07 is undoubtedly jam-packed with things to do, and most of them are enjoyable additions, but I would have preferred a better framework to begin with. With a bit more attention to in-game fluidity and detail, and the inclusion of core extras such as online leagues and co-op, Madden NFL 07 could have been stellar. It’s good for sure, but Madden NFL 07 isn’t a lock in this gamer’s Hall of Fame.

Overall, Madden NFL 07 on the Nintendo Wii is a great effort by EA Tiburon, one that makes me wonder even more how they dropped the ball on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games, if it’s even fair to call them “games.” If you’ve already picked up a copy of this year’s Madden, I’d still recommend renting the Wii version. If anything, it’s an interesting departure from the traditional controls. If you haven’t picked up a Madden NFL 07, this is the best version to get. It’s fun, it’s different, and it’s Madden. That’s a great combo, one worthy of this season’s MVP.

It is true that if you are a PS3 or Xbox 360 owner you will miss the glitz of the HD versions of Madden, but once you get to swinging your controller to and fro and becoming immersed with the on-screen action, you'll soon forget that you are looking at a visual re-creation of the GameCube version of the game. Your next-generation feature is in gameplay not visuals, just as Nintendo promised. If you own a Wii and you are a sports fan, this is one game that utilizes both controllers and shows off why the Wii is so innovative.

Even if the controls were old school, this version of the game seems to play faster and is more enjoyable to me. I wish we had online multiplayer already but I’ll give EA some slack here. Just remember that for next year, EA! Anyway, if you’re a football fan I recommend picking this one up – remember football isn’t in Wii Sports so you’ll have to get your fix from Madden!

If you enjoy football, and you've got a Nintendo Wii, you need to seriously pick this game up. It just feels right. It also might make you forgive EA for the past half-decade of rehashed doggy poo they've been foisting upon us at full price. Sports fans - this might just be the game that gets you to buy a Wii. Even non-sports fans will have a good time with this. Highly recommended.

This game is everything you wouldn’t expect from a first year EA game on a new system. We’ve come to expect the launch Maddens (all systems launch with Madden, don’t they?) to be crippled with less features and more bugs. This is a glowing exception and a real feather in the cap for EA against all the sports bashers who are out there. EA came to the table with something so new and so much better than what many had expected this year. The game isn’t without its flaws but it does go out of it’s way to become fresh and different. Yes, you read that correctly, a review for a Madden game is praising the title for its freshness. Go figure... and if you have a Wii, go grab it.

I might not be alone in saying that Madden NFL 07 for Wii is the best version of all the next-generation platform versions. It’s definitely the least feature packed, and has the worst visuals when compared to the PS3 and Xbox 360, but when the series’ gameplay suffers, a change needed to be made. The first football game for the Wii is indeed that change, and we may be seeing something special with this franchise for Nintendo’s Wii in the years to come. It’s evident that EA went for the Hail Mary, and finally, they’re now river-dancing their way to victory. And what a way to win it. Madden NFL 07 comes highly recommended for those who didn’t have enough faith in EA’s exclusive license, and re-establishes the mammoth publisher’s dominance on the top of the sports gaming world once again.

Overall Madden NFL 07 is enjoyable and football fans will enjoy their time spent with the game. It’s just a bit disappointing to see so many quirks in the game. Hopefully they are already working on ironing these out for Madden NFL 08.

Madden NFL fans who've bought a Wii are definitely going to want to try out the game. It's a feature rich experience, only lacking an option to play online, that makes great use of the Wii's unique control scheme.

It's not perfect, but the better graphics and better online play make up for the shortcomings -- as long as you aren't looking for a huge franchise mode.

Even though Madden NFL 07 doesn't have any big, game-changing features to make it an especially memorable iteration of the series, its roster of small, but useful changes are ultimately more compelling than anything Madden 06 had on offer last year. And while some people are undoubtedly over the notion of playing new games on old consoles, Madden 07 shows that it can still deliver some enjoyable football, regardless of what platform it's on. It's not a big step forward, and the similarities between this year and last year might be a tough sell for some. But it's those similar aspects that Madden 07 ultimately improves upon over its predecessor, and if you skipped out on 06, then there's no good reason to ignore 07.

Madden NFL 07 on the PS3 is a tough sell to diehard football videogame fans, especially those who already picked up a copy of the game this past August. As expected, this game is nearly identical to the Xbox 360 version that was available to you when the NFL season first kicked off, and the improvements here fall somewhere between slim and none. The lack of a decent mid-season roster update is also painful. But if you were waiting until the PS3 launch to get your next-gen NFL football game, then here you have it: your one and only choice, thanks to the wonders of NFL license exclusivity. Madden NFL 07 is more than competent; in fact, it's very good, but unless you've waited all this time for a football game for this platform, with only a few weeks left in football season, you may want to just wait for next year's game.

If you're looking for realism, you won't find it here. Games frequently have ludicrously high scores, unless you drop the time down to three-minute quarters, and you'll still encounter annoying money plays online. How hard would it be to be able to tell your team to double or triple cover a stud WR that you know is going to be targeted? These gripes aside, the game can be plenty of fun to play. Madden NFL 07 is the continuation on a very sound formula that can be heartily recommended if you can't bear to keep playing last year's game.

Madden 2007 isn't an overt joy to play, but it's not necessarily of poor quality. In many ways, this version of Madden seems eons above the debacle of last year. Electronic Arts have injected the much needed Superstar mode, a fun collection of mini-games and a more involving, personal experience into professional football. The effort put forth into Madden 2007 thankfully erases the horrific memory of the 2006 version. Adversely, the game is still missing gameplay modes such as the Owner mode and the achievements are nearly as abysmal as the previous year.

If you were disappointed in the Xbox 360 version of Madden NFL 07 and the PC version is an option to you, don't hesitate to grab it. As much fun as this can be, if given the choice between the PC version and the consoles, the consoles win out. The bumps in the PC game, the graphical failings just make this a much more laborious game to play though, in fairness, the game is still quite fun to play.

If you don't already own a version then this is certainly the best version to appear so far. There's nothing really wrong with it, although there's a few things that would have been good to see – upgraded game engine, new kicking method and so on, which appear in the console versions. It's possible that these will appear in next year’s edition. If you don't own Madden and you're keen to get into the NFL games then this is the one to get. It might be better to wait for next year’s inevitable edition to hopefully get the benefit of the newer game engine.

It's not without its problems but it is good to see EA outsource a new proven PC team in HeadGateStudios to do the behind the scenes work as the game was in dire need of some attention behind the scenes. Features PC fans have been requesting for years have arrived, making 07 PC a very well rounded game. In fact the array of small features and enhancements, particularly in the actual gameplay, have really summed up to create a very playable game. It's a shame it has taken EA so long to finally give the PC gamers something to be excited over, but hopefully 07 is a sign EA are becoming a little more serious about their PC audience.

I really think Madden games are the hardest games to review in the entire industry. What’s to be said about this series that hasn’t been said before? Everyone knows that late each summer, gamers get presented with a slightly upgraded version of the same game they played last year. Yes, it has new rosters. Yes, they tried to add a couple new gameplay additions. When it comes down to it, however, the gameplay experience is almost identical to the last few installments.

A very impressive debut from EA on the Wii and the first third party game to truly herald a new era in a genre. Try going back to traditional Madden after this and you will see what we mean, the control offers so much freedom that each match is truly individual. This is truly addictive and pushes Madden up to the next level in gaming...however anyone who isn't a fan of the sport may want to keep their distance.

We would really suggest Madden NFL 07 on the Wii. The good controls through the remote and nunchuck are a welcom change for newbies and at the same time make that we can enjoy the tons of content and endless possibilities easier. Of course there's less progress on a technical side but the fact that this never hurts the game tells more about the good gameplay than about the mediocre graphics and sound. Certainly a suggestion if you want something else than a round ball for once!

In the end, Madden NFL 08 is a good game with lots of options, game modes, features and a very appreciable attention to detail. The addition of online, even though rough around the edges is certainly a welcome addition and the rest of the multiplayer including the party games will certainly guarantee a lot of hours spent around the game. The graphics are still last-gen unfortunately, but the time EA didn’t spend working on them, they spent on the controls which are very responsive, refined and intuitive. A good game for NFL fans and who knows, maybe newcomers can enjoy it too.

Madden 07 for the Wii feels pure next-gen in its gameplay, more so than on any other system, even if many of the technical aspects still feel like a last generation effort. There are certainly kinks to work out, many of which seem to have been fixed in Madden 08 (though there are still a number of problems in '08 that need fixing). Whichever version you end up playing, you’ll have a good time playing Madden on the Wii. I’m a big fan of the 2K Sports football offerings, and until recently I'd have taken NFL 2K3 over any other football game. But that time seems to have ended: Madden on Wii is a winner.

Then again, we knew that Madden wasn't going to be a visual powerhouse, at least on the Wii. The big question was how well the new controls would work, and though you'll need extra practice to kick well, the game passes the test, making for a solid bridge between two generations of game systems.

EA's challenge is not to simplify their simulation or stop adding detail, but to integrate those features so well that players can simply marvel at how advanced the game has become. The Superstar revisions are a step in the right direction, since they allow players to focus on the entire game one player at a time, but otherwise that's just not the case. As it is, Madden NFL 07 represents ... well, the only pro football game in town these days, which is one way of making sure your market comes back again next year.

Is the series getting old for this hardware? Well, yeah. Madden has run a hard course on the PlayStation 2 over the years, bringing new features that were on and off the board. It's time to bring the series to the PlayStation 3 and really make it cook with details and new goodies that would make it the ideal football experience. For now, though, Madden NFL 07 is still the definitive pigskin experience for the PS2, even if it's the only true one by default. The running game additions are wonderful, the Hall of Fame mode is just as meaty as the Superstar mode, and the gameplay continues to offer the kind of football experience that many fans crave. So go ahead. Indulge. And I don't mean in muffins.

It's clear that the focus has shifted to the next-generation, so if this isn't the last version of Madden we see on current-generation hardware, it will still likely be the best version. Madden has been wasting away on the current hardware for a while now, and while it is still a good football game and has a lot to offer, it doesn't rise above and really blow away the previous version. Still, with the updated roster, the Superstar mode, and the lead blocking feature, Madden NFL 07 has the goods that make for a great football game.

Madden NFL 07 is a capable entry that more than holds its own against the console versions. The bonus features included here are nice, including the end-to-end mini-game, and overall this is a nice package that should provide plenty of entertainment on the go. It's a shame that players are more adept at finding money plays than most QA teams, and that the EA Nation online service is still so far behind what gamers have come to expect from services like Xbox Live. Still, you're getting just about what you'd expect from this purchase: a fun, generally working version of Madden for your handheld, impressive graphics and some nifty bonus features to boot.

It's nice to see a large overhaul of last year's game, which was somewhat clunky and full of problems, into a smoother running title. There's no doubt about it, Madden 07 is far superior to its predecessor in just about every way, despite some glaring issues that prevent this year's gridiron game from being a true classic. Madden is the best selling game in the world at the moment, so is it worth that title? Well, yes and no. It’s also the best NFL game on the Xbox 360 but that’s not so hard since it doesn’t have any competition. I’ve pretty much got the feeling that this is the Madden we were all waiting for when the Xbox 360 came out. Madden 06 was just a stripped down version of its current gen counterpart with upgraded graphics, but Madden ’07 is the complete experience with High Definition graphics. It’s pretty much the same but here and there are a couple of improvements that make this a better game. Animations and movements look awesome, gameplay is changed in a good way and the durability is improved by the Live franchise mode and by making your own superstar. If you’re a fan of Madden it’s a must-have, even though it’s not entirely perfect.

Perhaps the play book editor and throw back uniforms will show up in the marketplace. While Madden 07 is far from perfect, it really does take plenty of steps in the right direction. EA has given 360 owners a reason to rejoice as they finally have a pigskin title worth playing. The addition of Superstar mode alone makes Madden a worthy purchase for fans of the series and the online component really seals the deal. If EA can fix the lag and perhaps give next-gen gamers all the same features that their older console brethren have we will certainly be in for a treat. Hopefully, next year will bring even more features (Owner mode?) as well. That said, after playing this game, it's impossible not to daydream about spending lazy autumn Sundays watching football. When it comes down to it, next-gen Madden doesn't quite live up to standard set by current-gen. The game looks the part, but pieces of it just aren't right. The presentation, for instance, is beautiful, but baffling (the play selection menus are downright terrible). It'll get the starting job eventually, but Madden next-gen, like Bills second-year QB J.P. Losman, still has to bow to the veterans.

As great as it was to get hold of Twilight Princess after what seemed like years of delays, Wii owners should be celebrating Madden with equally open arms. Having been playing the series since its early heydays in the 90s, I can honestly say I haven't had this much fun with a football game in decades. Add a few friends into the gridiron mix and you're coming away with one of the best Wii experiences yet. The best part about this travesty of the Superstar mode is that it doesn't bother me one bit or lower the score, because I don't care about it - nor does anyone else I know that loves Madden football like I do. All we want is a solid, fun, sweet-looking football game that we can play against each other in person or over Xbox Live.

There's no denying that Madden NFL 07 comes up short on delivering all the improvements one would hope for after last year's disappointing debut on the 360. However, it does at least push the series in the right direction. There's no one big, game-changing feature added to this year's game, and the bugs are certainly going to hamper your enjoyment, but the culmination of re-added features and control upgrades give the necessary oomph to make the 360 version feel like more than just last year's game all over again. If you skipped 06, definitely give 07 a look, as it's far more representative of what a football game on the 360 ought to be like.

As was the Xbox 360 version, the PS3 version of Madden NFL 07 is a very good football game that doesn't quite live up to the full potential of the latest console hardware. And while the game looks and plays quite good on the PS3, the added Sixaxis control support isn't really that impressive, nor are the visuals all that much better than what the 360 version offered back in August. Still, the improvements, though small, are there, and for football fans buying a PS3 at launch, Madden's worth a look.

Madden 07 for the Wii may be just innovative enough to require a second purchase of the game. This is in comparison to the many other versions available out there. However, while it’s not going to be a technical marvel in any aspect, the fun offensive controls make up for it. The potential is huge for Madden 08 to step it up and go for the two point conversion with online play and intuitive defensive controls. Until then, the Madden 07 test for the sports game market on the Wii is a successful one. Tell the rest of the sports developers to go ahead with their games and make the Wii the place for the sports fans to get their fix.

Though PC owners aren't likely to be thrilled at the small number of changes they're getting with this year's Madden, compared with practically all the home-console versions, there's still enough new and different about Madden 07 to make it worthwhile. Features like the new running and blocking controls, as well as the improved superstar mode, are enough to keep the experience reasonably fresh. Still, if you own any of the home-console systems that Madden appears on this year, the PC version probably shouldn't be your first choice.

We gave this title a high score the first run simply because of its presentation aspects, but hindering gameplay nuisances, bugs, and content absences will continue to keep the series from truly earning its famed status.

As much as Madden NFL 07 is a better game than 06 was on the PSP last year, it's still saddled with too many annoying problems to make it wholly recommendable. That's too bad, because with the fixes this version does have, as well as the new gameplay features, it generally plays a captivating and engaging game of football. But with the random gameplay bugs and interface quirks, it's not as good as it could be. For the serious Madden enthusiast who demands a handheld version of the game, Madden NFL 07 is worth checking out, but be prepared to put up with some irritations.

For those having to decide between this and the Playstation 2 version of Madden 07, either one will do, because both are practically the same. The differences are slight. I thought the graphics looked a bit "softer" on the GameCube, at least on my high definition television. There are fewer awkward "pauses" after plays than in the PS2 game, resulting in slightly more fluid contests.

Despite these minor issues however, Madden 07 still offers a solid football game at its core, and you can't beat it when it comes to smack talking with friends. And most surprising of all, this PS2 version is every bit as good as the 360 edition.

While there's certainly room for improvement, there's no understating what EA Canada has done with the Wii version of Madden NFL 07. They've resoundingly refuted their biggest criticism. More than a sloppy port with a new gameplay tweak, Madden NFL 07 breathes new life into virtual sports games. No longer just for the die hard fan or the number crunching simulation lover, FreeMotion control brings a whole new level of interactivity to the genre. For years, EA Sports' slogan was "If it's in the game, it's in the game." With Madden 07 on Wii, for the first time in the series' history, you feel like you're in the game.

Madden NFL 07 is a respectable debut for the Madden series on the Wii. This game is a classic example of a developer being forced to innovate and embrace the Wii remote. Madden NFL 07 on the Wii is clearly one of the best uses of the Wii remote yet.

That’s par for the Madden course. While the series is definitely far from its prime, it manages to prove once again that EA and Madden know a good game of football, just not a very new one.

Madden 2007 isn't going to surprise you. If you've ever played a football game in the past 5 years, you know pretty much what you're getting. I've heard people yammer on about fatigue glitches (which admittedly I wouldn't notice unless I was looking for), missing commentary (I actually prefer the "EA Radio" announcer to Madden), and some little graphical quirks, but when you really get down to it, it's a fun game. End of story. Plus, as we all well know, it's gonna be the only NFL game for the next year. Love it or leave it, it's all we've got -- and it's not half bad. Not stellar, but not half bad.

Overall, this is a respectable and solid Wii game whose controls have stood the passing of the last few months. It offers further promise to the hope that the Wii is more than just a passing fad. It proves that well considered development can deliver a compelling, accessible and highly engaging experience. They really can say, there is no where else that you can play American football this way.

In all, Madden NFL 07 is an improvement over last year's severely-abbreviated effort, but in the final analysis, the game may have all the modes this year, but there's still a lot of catching up to be done for Madden on the 360 to really be as complete and polished as Madden on the original Xbox. Boo, EA!

Surprisingly, what stays with you from the game is the sense of freedom that comes from the gestures. You remember particular plays, and become aware of the different movements that put up that lob, landed that catch or strong-armed that line-back. All of us were surprised how compelling this was, and how much we wanted to play some more. That has to be a successful game, in anybodies book.

WiiNintendoWorldReport
The developers really came up with some interesting and entertaining gestures for a football game, but Madden may have been the wrong game for them. The overall complexity of the game will immediately turn off the more casual players who were attracted by the control scheme. The hardcore Madden players will most likely prefer one of the more traditional console versions because of precision issues with the gestures. The cool mini-games and tried-and-true Madden feature set make up for the shortcomings a bit, though.

As always, all you're paying for here are some minor updates, a couple of simplistic new modes, and that new season / franchise data. Unless you're an absolute addict, there's no need for this game. If you are an absolute addict, there are better games out there. If you insist on buying this, just remember; if you want to play any multiplayer, in a year's time you'll probably have to buy another one.

It's still the same old Madden, emphasis on old. The mini-games are fun, but next time focus on fixing those bugs and giving us some more meat, OK guys?

I love this series. I look forward to the annual Madden game more than most games throughout the year. Madden NFL 2007 looked like it would be the bright spot for Xbox 360 sports games, but it ends up swimming around in the same frustrating waters that it did last fall. Madden NFL 2006 got away with some of its flaws, simply because it was a launch title. Madden NFL 2007, which came out nine months later, can’t escape the same flaws and some of the other new ones caused by Superstar Mode. EA Tiburon needs to re-work its million-selling baby before the 2008 series.

Exactly where all that leaves Madden fans this season presents a tough question. Those with HDTV can't be blamed for wanting the 360 version on the strengths of its presentation alone. And with friends playing on Live and accomplishments, there's ample added incentive for those intending to play mostly online. But those who plan on spending most of their time offline in solo play will want to take a long look at the arguably more polished and superior current-gen versions before committing to one or the other.

A sports game for the hardcore gamesplayer, then? Well, yes. If there are any MechWarrior fans who like American Football, this is for you. For Gamestyle, over in Blighty, is thinking about how Fifa 08 on the Wii will be like. For the rest of you, this is a unique, but flawed way of playing a fabulously put-together sports package.

All said and done, Madden is still Madden. With all the tweaks and enhancements it's tough to recommend this title if you already own it for the 360 or even Xbox for that matter. But realistically, regardless of what I might say Madden players are a dedicated bunch. Some buy it every year regardless while others skip over particular editions to wait for a more mind blowing upgrade. For the average gamer who may not play Madden all that often, I'm going to mark this as a rental because as with any sports game unless you are dedicated to playing, it will tire easily.

Purists will notice lot of minor elements missing (like nets behind the goal posts) and the coach's challenge feature is so schizophrenic you never know when it's going to be available. It sure is easy to nit-pick Madden 07, but there's no disputing one thing: the game is fun. There's a lot of room for improvement, but Xbox 360 owners should be satisfied overall.

Early on, it became pretty apparent that EA Sports intended for Madden 07 on the Wii to be its first showcase for using the interactive controls in its games. Every demo offered an opportunity to toss a few passes with the Wii-mote and make some jukes with the Nunchuk. From these quick tastes, it at least seemed like there was some potential there for a unique take on playing Madden. Now that preseason is over and we have had some time to play with the completed game, we've rounded up our gridiron fanatics to weigh-in on Madden's first season on the Wii.

It goes without saying that if you aren't already a fan of football games, Madden 07 for the PSP won't change your mind. That said, the game does offer a decent football experience on the go that is akin to what we've become accustomed to on consoles. And while I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little disappointed with this year's version, Madden 07 for the PSP still does a respectable job of replicating the game of football. Hopefully Madden 08 does an even better job of bringing the football experience to the portable screen.

As far as this game rates versus my expectations of a football game on the 360, it is a major disappointment. I expected more – online leagues, prior generation features brought to the 360 as well as the eye candy. I only got the eye candy. If you are comparing it solely against Madden NFL 06 for the 360, it’s a much better game. Personally this year, I prefer NCAA to Madden, but your mileage may vary. Overall, I was disappointed yet again with Madden but with no other NFL options available, it will probably tide you over for another year. I guess it could be worse (like Madden 06).

Xbox 360Gamenikki
If the fatigue bug had been fixed the way EA promised it would be, and the game had the same options that other versions had, I’d give the game the same score I gave last year's version: a 7. As it stands, with the lack of features, the lack of innovation with the game play and the higher price tag; I don’t feel comfortable giving this game anything higher than a 5.

I didn't like playing Madden 2006 for the most part and I hated playing Madden 2007 even more. Don't play this game. If you like football games then I am sure you will give me a hard time since I am ready to give this one a bad score. My gamer score went up only a tad, it was pointless to even put this one into my system. If I liked these games I would just stop myself from buying them for a year or two, it's all the same anymore, I'd play the older one. After time goes by I won't feel as dumb buying another Madden game. I will stick to my favorite sport game, wrestling. At least WWE games make more than one to two changes every year.
