There are five different game modes in Madden NFL 2000: Exhibition, Season, Franchise, Tournament, and Practice. In an Exhibition game, you and your opponent battle it out for the victory. A Season is when you and your selected team try for the opportunity to play in the Super Bowl and win. During a Season, you can trade, sign, release, and create players to help your team go all the way. Franchise mode is similar to the Season mode, but you create your coaching staff. Tournament is a good choice if you have a lot of players. Last but not least is Practice, which is a lifesaver for you if you are playing the game for the first time. All in all, Madden 2000 is the best football game of the year, without a doubt!

For the past two years, Madden games have been very smart, realistic, and deep football simulations that have been plagued by various problems such as sluggish gameplay or lackluster graphics. As of this year, those irritations are entirely a thing of the past: EA has managed to significantly improve the game in the off-season by making it run faster and smoother, while also improving the way it looks.

The control is dead-on, and the running game is no longer an exercise in futility. Players break tackles and get pulled down in a realistic manner. It's not unusual to see awe-inspiring plays like a receiver trying to keep his feet inbounds while catching a ball on the sidelines. The two-man commentary is also impressive. Selecting a football game is not a tough choice in 2000 - go Madden all the way.
Overall, Madden 2000 is the most fun I've had playing a Madden game in a long time. The control and new Madden challenge mode are reasons alone to pick this game over the competition. Madden 2000 just has a great feel to it; the game looks great, controls well, and is a whole lot of fun for both the football novice and the seasoned veteran.
The more you like NFL football, the more you'll like Madden NFL 2000. It's a good thing that new video game platforms are coming out, because it's hard to see what else could be done on the Playstation to make this a better NFL simulation.
Overall, Madden 2000 is the most fun I've had playing a Madden game in a long time. The control and new Madden Challenge mode alone are reasons to pick this game over the competition. I still prefer the total-control passing of NFL Gameday 2000, but I must admit that in the end I had more fun playing Madden. Madden 2000 just has a great feel to it. I've been a Gameday fan for awhile, but this year I have to pick Madden over Gameday.
What a great game! There is no way you could ever get tired of playing Madden NFL 2000. With countless options, teams, modes, and more, you are sure to be well occupied. This is clearly the best available American Football game on the market today. A must buy for any football fan.
Overall, Madden NFL 2000 is an excellent game. The improved Franchise mode, awesome customizability and new passing features make this a worthy upgrade to Madden '99. I really thought it would be hard to improve on last year's title, but EA Sports has done it.
When you get right down to it, there’s no game that could have heralded the triumphant return of sports games to the Mac like Madden 2000. It’s a flawless example of excellent gameplay combined with the realism die-hard fans desire.
Madden 2000 is an ensemble of stunning graphics and realistic gameplay that will impress any sports fan. For Mac users, Madden 2000 also represents more than a great football game; it marks the first time in recent history that any sports title of any magnitude has found its way to the platform. We can only hope that this just a small glimpse of what's to come.
It seems like I say this every year, but this has to be the best Madden game, yet. Madden NFL 2000 has tons of great features, the game looks and moves a whole lot better than last year's version, it's a smart purchase for those who just want a good, complete football game. I just wish the sound was a little better. Mr. Madden? Get some sleep before you do the voiceovers, you just sound so unenthused. C'mere my little pork shake, do you need some tickle time?

Madden 2000 is a great game and a lot of fun to play but it doesn't offer as complete a package as the superb Madden '99, which deserved a higher score last year in my opinion. The improved running game opens up the offense and will really get you into the strategy of playing NFL football. Great additions like the Madden Challenge and the Hot Route system will give you plenty to focus on if you're a diehard football fan. It's fast and great to watch but the change in the look of the players will have to grow on me. Fortunately the great A.I. is still there to keep me matching wits with the machine and that's always a good thing to have. The omission of classic teams didn't bother me as much as I thought it would since they're the same teams with the same ratings as last year.
All in all, Madden NFL 2000 is probably the best all-around football game yet developed for the PC. In a sea of underachievers, this might not be saying much, but the game is so enjoyable and has so many interesting features that NFL fans will find it hard to keep from loading it up again and again.

Fans of the older Madden NFL titles will find plenty of good reasons to return for the 2000 season, including improved play models, new features, and the highly intriguing Madden Challenge. Electronic Arts may have lowered the graphic resolution a little bit, but they’ve made up for it in the play department, so you won’t be complaining too much. In general, I got the impression that this was a “transition” title, being Electronic Arts’ first attempt to move into somewhat new directions to address the serious competition that it now faces. There’s still plenty of room for improvement because of this, so I’m definitely looking forward to next year’s edition, and you should be too. For now, suffice it to say that Madden NFL 2000 is a strong title on its own merits, but this season, it doesn’t knock the wind out of NFL Blitz 2000.

Madden 2000 is the most complete football game available today. Of course, there is a distinct lack of competition, so that statement isn’t as resounding an endorsement as it may seem. Madden is not yet the comprehensive professional football simulation I believe it would like to be, due to an incomplete management model and a lack of accuracy in roster configuration. Fortunately, Madden is still tops when it comes to on-field action. The new momentum modeling, improved running game, and stellar collision detection, combined with what was already a fairly authentic representation of the interaction between players, make for some very realistic-looking football. Someday, Madden’s management and roster features will reach that level as well, and when that happens, we’ll have a truly multifaceted football simulation on our hands. Until that time, Madden 2000 still brings enough to the table to retain its crown.
There's a lot to like in M2000. The graphics are top-notch. The audio gives it a real TV feel. And gameplay is strong and can be adjusted to suit newbies and die-hards. For those waiting before making the leap to 128-bits, Madden 2000 is as good as football gets.

Even the most rabid Sunday afternoon Fox-watcher has to admit that John Madden has been slowing down. Where he once energized a game and served as the goofball-enhanced “after” to Pat Summerall’s “before,” the big guy is now edging closer to obsolescence. Perhaps it’s all those years in the broadcast booth catching up with him, but now he’s more cornball shtick than great show. Thankfully, the same cant be said for EA Sports’ MADDEN football series. The most-celebrated franchise in PC sports gaming celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, with perhaps the most complete re-creation of the NFL ever seen. MADDEN NFL 2000 has it all: cleat-crunching action, an involving franchise mode, and weighty enough stats to blow out tires on the famed Madden Cruiser. It has a few problems, but it’s still a must-buy for anyone who gets couch sores each autumn.
This is probably the zenith for Madden Football on the PC. Madden 2000 is a deep, immerse, smart, challenging, and, most importantly, fun game. A year from now, there may be a PC version of Madden 2001, but all eyes will be on the next generation of games. But for now, EA Sports has created one of the best and most complete sports games ever released.
Commentary gripes aside, I dig this game. It is the first major sports title on the Mac in way too long and in terms of pure gameplay, it is a big winner.
Madden 2000 is one of the best football titles on the market. Each new version seems to get better and better. While this edition is the best so far, but there is still room for improvement. Player animation could be a bit smoother, especially when it comes to takedowns. The off-field interface could be more responsive and easier to navigate. A decent mouse interface could be implemented on-field. However, these are all minor concerns. They would be very welcome tweaks, but that still doesn't take away from the fact that this is an excellent football game, the best Madden so far. Bottom Line: Improved graphics and animation. AI has been increased - you need to be on your toes or the opposing team will run rings around you. The interface needs work both on and off field, but a gamepad will suffice while on.
If acceptance of Madden 2000 means more sports games for the Mac, then we should welcome this game with open arms. On the other hand, if other sports games are this annoying, maybe we don't want them. Ultimately, the choice is yours. I really love football, but I also really love games you just boot up and play without having to jump through hoops. Madden 2000 is impressive in many ways -- almost as many ways as it is cumbersome. The thrill of football is missing here. Some excitement made it in, but the thrill isn't there.

No sports gamer needs to be convinced to purchase Madden for his or her Macintosh. Neither will they be disappointed with what they find once the game is on their Mac. Madden is the zenith of its genre, and the Mac version is no exception. One can only hope that this game is successful enough this year and in the future to convince EA Sports to send more sports games our way!

It just wouldn't be football season without the annual appearance from Coach Madden's game, and this year's version is his best yet. Packed to overflowing with gameplay modes and customization options, the real selling point for Madden NFL 2000 is the hard-hitting action that takes place out on the field. The running game is balanced beautifully, letting you and the computer coach execute a game plan similar to what you'd see in an actual NFL game, and the adjustable AI feature gives everyone the ability to tweak the game to their liking in both on-the-field results and difficulty levels. Pigskin fans are encouraged to check this one out.

Still, Madden NFL 2000 is the best football simulator we've seen on any platform. Aspyr has finally broken the decade-long drought of Macintosh sports games, and has done it in fine style. Let's hope the release marks a new trend. We'd rather not wait another decade to see more fine sports games on the Mac.

If Madden 2000 had the luxury of existing in a competitive vacuum it would be an overwhelming success. Unfortunately for EA Sports, it doesn't.
