If you are an American Football fan and are anxious for a game for the new season, then this is definitely one to play. It is without doubt the best Madden game to date with a whole host of goodies to keep even the most hardcore occupied till next year to say the least. The problem is, can the game get any better? We certainly thought last years was something special, but when another comes along with even more improvements it makes you wonder, what else can they do? Only time will tell.

In all, Madden 2004 sets a new standard for football simulation games. By letting you move off the field and into the owner's box, the game provides another dose of realism instead of merely upping the polygon count.

The best gets better. Not content to sit on its?.er, laurels, Madden NFL 2004 raises its game to yet another level. Once again, the road to the videogame Super Bowl leads through the house that John built.

Every year it gets harder for EA Sports to convince the masses to shell out another fifty bones for the newest Madden. It's up to them to invent a fresh new perspective on gameplay to make it worth the yearly purchase. Not only is Madden 2004 the best in the series, but you won't understand how you could live without the new Playmaker feature and Owner mode.

Madden NFL 2004 is football the way you always wanted it to be: powerful and sleek all year long. Stock up the fridge, pay the electric bill in advance, and kiss your significant other good-bye. Madden NFL 2004 is a feature-packed football powerhouse that's going to keep you housebound for the duration of the NFL season.

As a combination Raiders and Cowboys fan (strange mix, I know), I'm not very excited about the upcoming football season. With Gannon at QB, the Raiders are destined to always do well in the regular season and choke miserably in the playoffs, while the Cowboys routinely stack up pretty evenly with teams like the Lincoln High School Trojans of Stockton, California.

Practice makes perfect and EA Sports is bloody well as near as it gets. All of the AI holes, specific playbooks and overall tight feeling of the game comes across as a polished and excellent version of the best sports game out there. Unfortunately, I wish that this game had two things that aren’t EA’s fault. An online option and a controller that actually doesn’t suck. The Z button makes my big hands feel awkward and I’d be itching to get online and play some tournaments.

Well, the moment of truth has arrived for John Madden?s all-star ensemble. Is the game too violent? The answer is nay. Are there too many sexual references? No. Again, the cheerleaders are scantily clad, but you can skip past that part, and it is just a five second segment. Is there cussing at all? Nope. Some of the songs have some bleeped out words, but you can find those quickly enough and delete the songs from the play list. Overall, Madden NFL 2004 is an excellent game, made better by good gameplay, easy controls, good sound, and, for some most important, great graphics. If football games are your thing, buy this today.

After playing NCAA Football 2004, I thought that there was no way any football game released this year would be better than that game, and was I ever wrong! From the minute I booted up my Playstation 2, I was amazed to see what Tiburon did to their most acclaimed franchise! Madden 2004 is not only one of the best games I have played all year, but it is the best football game I have ever played. All of the newest additions to this year’s game makes the whole game feel extremely real! If you love games, and especially football, buy this game immediately!

Madden is the deepest football game around. With modes such as Owner's Mode, Franchise Mode, Mini-Camp Mode, Playmaker Control, Classic Team Editor, Madden 101, the new and improved create-a-team, and playbook editor, it really has much to offer. The only thing it needs is online play for Xbox Live. Madden NFL 2004 is so good, that you really don't need online play, just playing the actual game by yourself is the best thing you could do. It just might be one of the best sports games ever. You will be playing this game forever, well, at least until next year's edition.

Overall the improvements in this year's Madden are enough to keep any fan interested and is by far the best work put out by EA games. All the old features are kept or improved, the new features work seamlessly to greatly give a much fuller experience, and the smack talking and friend humiliating will continue, at least until Madden 2005.

I may not be the biggest fan of video game sports titles, but I know a quality game when I see it... and Madden 2004 is just that. With so many fantastic features having been added to this years version, once can only wonder what next year will have in store. Nearly every facet of the game is flawless, truly capturing the feel of running and playing in the NFL. It's a lot of fun and you'd be hard pressed not to like it. One of the best Madden titles yet (had they gotten rid of his commentary, it would have been the best one yet)! Do yourself a favor and pick this one up. It will not disappoint.

In its 14th season, the Madden franchise has been marked by most gamers as the top in pro football. How does Madden NFL 2004 fare in comparison to previous Madden titles? Every year, the graphics in Madden have been given a boost, and this year is no exception. However, graphics don’t always make a game, and they will go to waste if not supported by good gameplay. So what possible features can Electronic Arts add to their already well-defined football play? The answer is a playmaker control, EA’s revolutionary new feature which allows the player to control members of the team during pre-snap, during the play, and blocking. How does this improve the game? Continue reading, and you’ll find out.

Dear Electronic Arts and Tiburon: I know that you’re a couple of companies that need income just like any other businesses or people in the world. But you do think you could take ONE year off to give my former friend NFL 2K..rather, ESPN NFL Football a chance to catch up. You see, you just never give them a chance, what with your adding new features and gameplay ideas, I feel bad for my people at Sega, you’ve forced them to try so hard. Now I’ve had to leave them all together in order to play your criminally addictive franchise, online play, and mini-camps. Please, I’ve been with Sega since the Dreamcast, let me have a chance with them again.

In the NFL, players and teams will do almost anything to be number one. Former Redskins hog Joe Jacoby once said, "I'd run over my own mother to win the Super Bowl." Upon hearing this, former Raider Matt Millen replied, "To win, I'd run over Joe's mom, too."

Madden 2004 is better than 2003 and 2002 when they came out. If there was anytime to purchase Madden for the first time, it’s now as this is by far the best of the bunch. The Xbox version would have received a higher score if it allowed on-line play, but as of now that’s solely reserved for the PS2 version.

Madden 2004 is one of the most in-depth and enjoyable football titles to have ever hit the market, with the exception to Joe Montana 94. Sorry, but that’s the greatest game of all time. If you’re a huge football fan such as myself, or even casual sports gamer, this is the one title to buy by years end. The amount of replay is simply amazing and never before seen in previous football titles. Madden 2004 is a strong statement by the EA Sports team that they aren’t merely sellouts, and still have what it takes to create a great game.

Even after all these years, it's still the game to beat. Although Madden is available for all systems, I chose the PS2 version because I think the controller is better suited for sports games. NOTE: The Madden curse lives on! Just ask Madden 2004 coverboy Michael Vick, who broke his leg in preseason!

Madden 2004 is not as much a game as it is an experience, and almost a religious experience at that. "If it's in the game, it's in the game" is not just a catch phrase. For Tiburon and EA Sports, it's a way of life.

With the addition of Playmaker controls, Owner Mode, custom sound tracks, and much more, it is clear that Madden has set a new high for games to follow. As bad of an omen as it is to have Michael Vick on the cover of your football game, EA has managed to keep from tripping up on any details in this year's Madden while adding some major new features. There is more virtual football reality available in this game than you could ever hope to find on TV, in the newspapers or on the internet. The lack of online play is a disappointment, but even so, this is a great football game and comes highly recommended to Xbox football fans.

Unfortunately, the Xbox and GameCube versions of Madden NFL 2004 don't have any sort of online play, but that really doesn't detract much from how great Madden NFL 2004 really is. All the new features have been integrated so well into the preexisting framework that it seems like they've always been there. Indeed, you might wonder how you even played previous games in the series without the playmaker controls. Moreover, the owner mode and this year's minor gameplay tweaks make Madden NFL 2004 a must-have football game, regardless of which platform you own.

Madden 2004's noises are indistinguishable from last year’s version, although some mediocre pop plays while you navigate game menus prior to playing. Al Michaels commentary is fine as usual and John Madden sounds like a total idiot. My theory is that the developers have done this on purpose. While Madden consistently and effortlessly make an ass of himself on television, his commentary in Madden 2004 is even worse than on TV because he tries to sound reasonable and pedagogical while making rambling, asinine comments. Maybe one day they’ll figure out a way to make him sound cool.

It's not an easy task for a development team to make enough improvements to a yearly sports game series to warrant a purchase every year. However, EA Sports has not only managed to add enough features and gameplay tweaks to make Madden NFL 2004 a more than worthy purchase for those who bought last year's game, but it has also created one of best football games to date. Madden NFL 2004 covers nearly every facet of professional football, but what makes this year's entry in the series so special is the fact that it ties all its components together seamlessly.

Even though Madden 2004 doesn’t take a huge leap forward visually or aurally, the improved artificial intelligence and realistic gameplay make for a football simulation like no other. In addition, the new owner’s box adds astonishing depth and replayability to a franchise mode that is already dangerously addictive, while the playmaker controls only serve to better immerse the player in the experience. Gamers will inevitably ask themselves if it is worth upgrading to the latest installment of Madden, and the answer this year is a resounding “yes.”

Sometimes, it seems that there’s not much to say about a sports title. After all, what it does is obvious, what it looks like follows pretty closely from the structure of the sport in question, and features tend to be much the same across the board. The Madden series is different: it takes the factors that make any game great, and tries to apply them to football. 2004 has more depth, more speed and pace, and more of a certain unquantifiable flair -- perhaps due to Mr. Vick’s dynamic presence -- than any other football game on the market today. In the world of sports games the public demands from EA one thing each year, a new edition of Madden to slake its thirst for brilliant football action. Once again, EA has delivered.

Despite some enduring problems with the franchise, Madden just keeps getting better. This installment is the finest football game ever produced. So there we have it. In a nutshell, Madden 2004 is a highly polished product let down really by just the poor memory card management. As it stands the game will take up practically a whole 251-block card. If you have one of these babies to spare or have no qualms about saving a franchise then there is nothing to think about.

Madden 2004 is a great game that is based on making as realistic a football game as possible. There's lots more I could say about Madden NFL 2004. The "clock acceleration" feature means you can play through 10-minute quarters in a reasonable time and end up with reasonable stats. "Madden Cards" add replay value with lots of unlockable bonuses, and the tools necessary to create your own team have been significantly improved from years past. There's plenty more, but the best praise I can give Madden 2004: it's the NFL game to beat this year, and unless the upcoming ESPN Football completely surprises us (which, from what we've seen, isn't going to happen), Madden 2004 is the game I'll still be playing well into the playoffs next year. This shall be an interesting football year. Madden 2004 is the first one out of the gate and overall it is pretty darn good. I am excited to see the changes Sega and Microsoft have made in their football franchises to see if they are better. There are 2 things those games don't have though: the new Owner and Playmaker options. Those two things may just put Madden on top for another year in most reviewer's minds. We'll have to see which way my mind goes. As always, Madden is an easy pick-up for those that want it as it does bring enough new things to warrant a purchase over the 2003 version in my mind.

The rest of the gameplay controls pretty much stay the same, which isn’t a bad thing. The only gripe I have is the lack of a fully customizable control scheme. With playing all the various available football games, it becomes a nuisance to get used to each game’s specific control scheme. It would be nice to have the option to remap certain functions to the buttons that you prefer.

It doesn’t seem like EA Sports has done much with the series ever since it appeared on the PS2 and to be honest, each and every entry since Madden 2001 has felt like a thinly disguised expansion pack sold at a retail game price point. Each year adds new features but the minor additions make me wonder whether the $50 that gamers are willing to pay each and every year is justified. Perhaps I’m just getting a little jaded, or maybe the luster of the series is starting to wear off, but the 2004 entry in the series just isn’t as appealing to me anymore and in fact, the series has dropped from “Must Buy” status to “Buy if there’s nothing else worth getting” status. Not that Madden 2004 isn’t a great game, it’s just that it’s more of the same and unless that’s OK with you, you might want to hesitate a bit before running out to pick this one up.

Old and tired? Yes. Still the best overall football game on the market? Yes. NFL wise, anyways. NCAA wipes the floor with this game and I’m almost ashamed to say that NFL GameDay 2004 is a more entertaining game, if only for a change of pace. The bottom line here folks, is that Madden has once again set the bar high for its competitors and has flexed its digital muscles. It's gonna be tough for the other three or four football franchises to match Madden on just about any level. Keep it up EA, for Madden is your bread-n-butter.

I have to admit, I haven't played the game too often against the computer, only against friends. Maybe it's less fun that way, because the GC won't start growling when you run 90 yards for the touchdown while the defense is unable to catch you, but still this is a great game.

If you're a long-time Madden fan, there's very little that will surprise you about this version. It's the same tried-and-true Madden gameplay with a few new wrinkles tossed in, and if all you want to do is play a few games here and there or hop online to test your skills, then this version is a winner. But if you want to dig deep into Madden's highly touted franchise mode, there are some major holes that need to be filled before this portion of the game passes muster -- the game will not be truly complete until it's fixed.

The gameplay has been improved with a couple of new features being added. The owner mode and training mode all add to the overall feel of control in the franchise but the playmaker control adds to the feeling of control in the game. Being able to direct running plays on the field is definitely a bonus and being able to easily change both the defensive and offensive plays at the line allows you to react to your opponent as you would in a real game. The lack of Internet play brings this title down a notch or two as this is a serious omission when Internet gaming is readily available on the Xbox and is provided in the PS2 version. This feature will be provided by rival American Football titles from Sega and Microsoft. We will need to see whether this feature is enough to lure Xbox owners away from an established franchise, which has produced a worthy title yet again.

Although John Madden seems to be slowing down a bit — his verbal barbs more infrequent, his tele-strater antics diminished — the game that bears his moniker keeps on marching. The latest installment, Madden 2004, boasts several cool new additions to the franchise, but also drags along a few issues that annually plague the series.

Madden NFL 2004 continues the proud tradition of providing a good football experience, but the upgrade isn't worthwhile for anyone who has played any of the more recent additions, unless they're diehard NFL fans.

Madden simply will not excite unless you happen to be a NFL nut. It's too deep to pick up and play, on this side of the Atlantic at least and it doesn't have the exuberance of NFL Blitz to keep you looking at the screen long enough to finish a match, let alone a season. You can't say that it's a bad game, however, in fact it's just the opposite; the control system is intuitive and fluid, it's nicely customisable, and it has no major problems. Little more can be said. If you're into NFL, this has a friendlier feel than 2k3, with more emphasis on the playmaking and is much more realistic than Blitz. Along with in-depth training, ownership and trading modes this is about as complete as it gets and has the potential to be one of the most played titles in your collection. If you can get your head round it, that is.
