The Magic Candle is a very sophisticated game. It might take you a bit to appreciate all the different things going on. You will encounter many interesting characters, both in towns and in the wilderness. Characters whom you can ask advice from, and whom can help you in your quest in some way. Or merchants to replenish your supplies. You will also encounter, of course, groups of monsters seeking to kill your party. Game includes a big, detailed, colorful map to aid you in your travels. Exploring is one of the most exciting parts of the game, for you never know what you will run into next. Villages, Temples, Dungeons, Towers- it's all in there.

I enjoyed playing this game, although I think it's one for RPG purists only really. You need to give yourself an hour or so to get to grips with it and to get into the storyline of the game. The game also has quite a few keyboard commands to get used to. If you do persevere with it, you'll be rewarded with a decent RPG that has a good storyline and as much depth as the Ultima series.

Assuming you can get into the story, The Magic Candle carries itself pretty well. Movement is primitive but quick via arrow keys and the command structure with 43 possibilities is sufficient to get the tasks done. The interface can be tedious as you must type in the first letter of any command, then type a direction (N, E, S, W) you want the action aimed at.
