Mario looks odd in this game - his head looks too small - but in general the graphics are crisp and arcade-like. But what truly impressed me about this game are the little details. If a turtle lies on his back for too long, he'll crawl out of his shell and flip it over himself! The crabs look totally pissed off, and when they grab you with their pinchers, the crunching sound effect even sounds painful! The game's two-player simultaneous mode should be the highlight, but I found it somewhat frustrating because the other guy is always trying to screw you over. As a game, Mario Bros. may not be as fun as Centipede, Joust, or Defender, but it's still an well-executed, quality arcade title.

Mario Bros. features some excellent two-player simultaneous action, and Mario and Luigi are nicely rendered in several colors. This oldie is sure to please.

The same can be said about the game. Though I had plenty of other games on hand, Mario Bros. was the one to which I constantly returned. It also was easiest to talk others into playing that one. It's immediately accessible, it's great fun, and I recommend it very highly.

This version plays extremely well with tight controls and sharp graphics. There are even introductory screens for each stage. Still, I'd give a slight edge to the 5200 version because of its more elaborate animations and richer sound effects. Also, in that version you could send the creatures flying in different directions when you bumped them, but in this version they always just flip over in place. Still, it's hard to find much to fault with this fun, arcade-style title.

Mario Bros. may seem like nothing more than a simplistic, non-scrolling platform game on the surface, but play it awhile and you'll find that it has a surprising degree of depth.

NESNintendo Land
The game where Mario gets his real name and profession and Luigi Mario´s younger brother makes his first appearance. Mario and Luigi jumps around on one screen level and must defeat various enemies by jumping up and punching the platform under the enemies so that they bounce up in the air and land on their backs. Then Mario or Luigi can run and beat the crap out of them! Through the game you only faces around 3-5 different types of enemies and all the course looks exactly the same. This makes this game a little bit boring after a while even if you can play Mario Bros with a friend. Mario Bros is more varied game than the Donkey Kong games but can´t be compared with games like SMB1, 2 and 3. I recommend that you but SMB 3 instead where you get Mario Bros as a sub game for free!

This is a great translation of a mediocre old-school arcade game. If you love early video games or are a huge fan of Mario then you won’t be disappointed. Otherwise you can give this one a pass.

With two players in the mix, things naturally get competitive as you try to bump off more pests than your friend. You can even bump the other guy straight into harm's way, either intentionally or by accident, a reality that makes both players stay on their toes. For the time, this gameplay was deep. Today, without the incentive of having the high score at your local video arcade (or, say, on an online leaderboard), there's not much reason to play for more than an hour. Probably the best thing about the NES version of Mario Bros. is that it includes that unmistakable "cha-ching" sound whenever Mario collects a coin. For 500 Wii Points ($5), this game could be a decent deal, but only if you've got a partner in plumbing standing by.

There's a boardroom somewhere in Nintendo's headquarters, filled with executives, laughing maniacally. "They're buying it! They're buying it! I can't believe they're buying it again!" The number of Mario Bros. re-releases is unfathomably insane, as you'd have to be for putting up the 500 points to grab this Wii download. When and if the Big N gets it right and provides the original arcade version, Mario Bros. may be worth yet another look. But an emulation of an incomplete port of a game that's available in 20 other ways is not worth five bucks. Mario Bros. has been done to death – so just let it die.
