Mario Party DS

There's so much to like about Mario Party DS, from the mini-games that vary between easy and impossible (you'll be using the practise option a lot..) to the zany random events that can have you winning outright one minute, and losing miserably the next. The people that made this game must have had a blast, the creativity expressed is nothing short of fantastic - you actually feel good about beating the DS-controlled characters just to see the look on their faces! If there is a better title out there right now for the DS, I haven't played it. Hours and hours of fun!

Abschließend ist zu sagen, dass Mario Party DS zwar für gute Unterhaltung sorgen kann, aber eher an eine jüngere Zielgruppe gerichtet ist. Diese wird aber aufgrund des großen Spielumfanges und der gelungenen Präsentation mit Sicherheit lange Spaß an diesem Spiel haben. Das einzige was dem Titel noch fehlt ist ein Onlinemodus, aber vielleicht klappt das ja noch beim nächsten Mal.

It's true that we haven't been much of a supporter of the series as it looks like it had gone down the drain a long time ago. We've even gone as far as saying that if you want titles like this to stop being made, then stop buying them. Be that as it may, Mario Party DS is an extremely solid title that builds off the success of every Mario Party game before it. It also uses the DS capabilities to an exceptional extent to add more variety to its minigames. You probably own Mario Kart DS because of the fact that all your friends have it and it's a blast to play with them. Well, Mario Party DS is going to be the other game you always bring with you. This is one of the best Mario Party games to come out in a while--but if Nintendo just took the liberty of making it online, this really could have been the best one yet. Either way, it's not bad for a tenth entry (it's certainly a surprise that Nintendo has never mentioned that).

Yes, this is the 11th edition of Mario Party, but as always, if you have friends to play with, it’s a blast. Too bad developer Hudson didn’t include online play. It would have made single play more replayable after Story Mode is completed. But Mario Party DS is worth checking out, especially if you like the earlier versions.

Un épisode de plus pour la série, mais un régal pour les amateurs de party-games. Mario Party DS est un titre aussi riche que fun. Avec sa jouabilité exemplaire et son univers attachant, difficile de résister à la tentation d'appeler quelques amis pour se faire une partie.

Releasing Mario Party to the smaller screen has turned many of its ho-hum qualities on the console into considerable assets. I initially frowned at the idea of all the dice-hitting madness invading the portable space, but with enough content to fill at least two cartridges worth of mini-games and modes, Mario Party DS is a surprise bash that everyone should attend. With or without cucumbers.

What’s true about the last 5,000 incarnations of Mario Party holds true for this latest portable version—if you’ve played all the other ones and still want more, you’ll enjoy it just as much on the DS. If you got tired of the series in the early parts of this century, this will do nothing to bring you back. It’s the same general format, just with the expected addition of drawing/tapping/blowing on the mic minigames. I’m still holding out hope that the next Wii version will revitalize this aging franchise.

Ich bin kein Fan von Brettspielen auf einer Konsole. Egal ob Monopoly oder Trivial Pursuit, da geht mir einfach zu sehr die Atmosphäre eines klassischen Spieleabends flöten. Bei Mario Party ist und war das schon immer etwas anderes. Die coolen Spielbretter, die ein ums andere Mal ausgefallenen Minispiele und die knallbunte Welt von Mario und seinen Kumpanen sind jedes mal aufs Neue ein Freudenfest für jeden Fan von partytauglichen Multiplayer-Spielen. Die Portierung auf den DS ist dabei, anders als einst auf dem GBA, vollends geglückt und muss sich kaum hinter der Wii-Version verstecken. Einziger, aber grosser Kritikpunkt bleibt auch diesmal der fehlende Mut zur Innovation. Wer seine letzte Mario Party auf dem GameCube gespielt hat, muss sich keine Sorgen machen. Es hat sich am alten Spielprinzip nach wie vor nichts geändert.

Overall, Mario Party DS does a better job at retreading the core concept, however tired it may be, than last summer's Mario Party 8. Barring a complete shakeup of the series, this seems to be the most we can hope for at this point.

As always, single-player is a snooze, so kudos to Nintendo for offering single-cart multiplayer. Basically, if you want to buy this, you probably should. If you didn't care before, there is no reason to start.

Mario Party DS could have been amazing. It could have reinvigorated a stale franchise with online play and a brand new method of playing the games – the stylus. Sadly, it seems no one really cared enough about the game to do anything special with it. It’s not broken in any way, it’s just derivative and uninspired. Hopefully Hudson is putting in some effort with Mario Party 9 for Wii (seriously…number nine!?!), because it doesn't seem like much was put in here.
