Back of Box - N64 (US):
Mushroom Kingdom's biggest stars hit the court to compete in the craziest tennis tournament you've ever seen!
Created by the same perfectionists who gave us Mario Golf, Mario Tennis 64 mixes the cartoon universe of Mushroom Kingdom with the unlikely sport of tennis. Like Mario Golf, Mario Tennis is extremely easy for beginners to pick up and play, but it also holds many advanced mechanics for experienced gamers to master.
The ball moves realistically, but at the same time the court flashes with blinding special effects which could outdo a Phish laser light show. It's this satisfying mix of fantasy and physics that makes Mario Tennis one of the most fun games we've played in a long while.

All of your favorite characters hit the court in a wild and wacky, multiplayer tennis game from the makers of Mario Golf. Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Peach, Toad, and Donkey Kong lead off the all-star, 14-player lineup. The fast-paced action will have you unleashing vicious volleys, life-saving lobs, ballistic backhands, and electrifying super-charged smashes!
- Tennis with a Mario twist! Take the Piranha Challenge and brave the barrage of bouncing balls or opt for Bowser's tilting court to attack opponents with Koopa Shells.
- Up to four can play! Go head-to-head in doubles matches, dive into a four-player Ring-Shot Battle Royale, or just zap opponents with lightning bolts on the Koopa King's court.
- Single Player Tourneys. Multiplayer Exhibition Matches. Ring Shot Challenges. Many modes to play plus hidden courts and characters to discover!

NINTENDO PUTS A NEW SPIN ON THE SPORT WITH MARIO TENNISTM
From EGM Magazine:
Join Mario and Friends in a Four-Player Slam-fest for N64®
REDMOND, Wash., August 28, 2000 - Forget about those designer white shorts and personalized collared shirts. Don't bring your highbrow country club attitude and prima donna friends around here. This isn't your typical Saturday afternoon, tea-sipping, no-fun style of tennis. This is Mario Tennis for Nintendo® 64... you don't just play it, you survive it.
Mario and friends are back in this blistering slam-fest featuring classic Nintendo characters such as Wario, Luigi, Princess Peach and the always-versatile Yoshi. Mario Tennis also introduces a new character, Waluigi, Luigi's arch-enemy and the newest addition to the Nintendo family. Up to four players can compete against each other using furious forehands, backhand blasts and swerving serves. In traditional Nintendo style, Mario Tennis is simple to learn and play, but offers more challenge than a backhand drop volley to keep even the most seasoned video gamer coming back for more. Developed by Camelot, the creators of 1999's Mario Golf’, Mario Tennis serves its way into stores August 28 for a suggested retail price of $59.95.
"Tennis is such a traditional sport, but when Mario and friends get involved, you can forget about following the rules," says Peter Main, Nintendo's executive vice president, sales and marketing. "Mario Tennis is the ultimate four-player experience - it's more fun than an afternoon at Wimbledon."
