It was going to take a lot for me to be impressed yet again with a Marvel Xbox title (Hulk blew me away just a few weeks ago), but I guess you can call me impressed yet again. It seems developers have a penchant for screwing up officially licensed items, but I can’t say that for Nihilistic’s and EA’s work on Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. Not only were the classic superheroes done some justice, but a new and pretty cool lineup of additional Marvel characters were well done too. While not the perfect action/fighter out on the market, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects does a lot of things right, all while respecting the sanctuary known as comic book lore, which makes it quite alright in my book.

Like every game, this game has it's flaws, but they aren't stand out game killers, they're "We tried something new" flaws. Sure more unlockable content like characters and costumes would be well received, but again, the game doesn't really suffer for lack of it. Marvel Nemesis takes minutes to learn and months to master, and it provides a well rounded and, most importantly, fun experience, if you know what you are getting into. This is not your standard "toe-to-toe", best of three 90-second matches, combo cruncher, this is "kill or be killed" Marvel mayhem.

I previously mentioned that Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects would have been well served with a better implemented single-player portion. The PSP version removes the cumbersome singleplayer portion of the console games but forces some repetitive gameplay to unlock the additional characters. Nonetheless, the actual combat is very quick, very exciting and thoroughly enjoyed. It’s unfortunate that the unlockable movies, comic books and online play were removed, but the core game is still stronger on PSP.

In the final analysis, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is a solid brawler with a nice selection of new and familiar characters. It sports a great deal of interactivity with the environment, and gives a number of fighting styles to work with. If you aren't a huge comic book fan, you may want to take a rental first, but for the rest of us, this game is another step forward in an emergence of quality titles featuring characters with whom we all grew up.

Comic book heroes have seen their fair share of video games over the years, some good and some not. Over the past couple of years there has been a strong comeback for the super heroes thanks to a blockbuster movie called Spider-Man. We have seen a string of movies since then, and each one has had their own video game. Now it is time for EA to jump on the comic book bandwagon with Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects. How does this fighter/action game fare with the backing of super publisher EA? Read on to find out.

If Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects had a better implemented single-player portion, the game could be easily recommended. The actual combat is very quick, very exciting and thoroughly enjoyed. The game also includes a lot of content to please Marvel fans. Unfortunately, the single-player mode is required to get access to additional characters for the one-on-one mode and simply isn’t very fun. If you can battle with the single-player mode while you earn the unlockables, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects will provide tons of fun.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is a pretty cool fighting game. I think the biggest draw of the game is the characters. Without them, the game would be just another average beat-em up that would be getting the attention the game is getting now. The Story mode was a great idea that just fell short in its execution. The fighting was a little bit shallow, but it was still fun. Hopefully there will be better games to be found online as well. I would recommend checking this game out, but I would definitely suggest renting it before buying it.

Although Marvel Nemesis is far from being a perfect game, it's still an exceptionally strong outing for EA. Comic fans should be suitably impressed with EA's use of the Marvel license, and fighting fans will likely find more than enough substance to keep themselves entertained. Rise of the Imperfects shows that the relationship between EA and Marvel could be start of a beautiful friendship.

XboxArmchair Empire, The
Xbox Live gamers will enjoy the online play (if they select a character that can fire weapons- or powers-based projectiles) and it’s nice to have a brawler/fighter that showcases the Marvel universe so well, but an imperfect storyline that just doesn’t draw gamers into the Marvel Nemesis realm very far and a weak A.I. challenge in the single-player story mode hold the game back from reaching the heights of previous Marvel-based games.

A potentially brilliant title with a phenomenal multi-threaded story-line that gives some of the rarer Marvel Heroes an opportunity for a workout. Let down with a lack of final polish, no lock-on mode and an AI that caroms from predictable and frustrating to genius within the space of a mission break. Inconsistent usage of stats for characters and a lingering doubt over fairness further cloud this release.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects walks a fine line by having a great concept, amazing line-up of characters with a average game behind it. This could have been one amazing piece of Marvel gaming glory instead it falls a little short. So in the end I have to ask these questions: Did I expect more? Yes. Is Marvel Nemesis a bad game? No. Worth Checking Out: Yes, but I'd say a rental first.

For comic fans who own a PSP, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is definitely worth checking out. Even with its shortcomings, this version is still the best. If EA decides to continue moving forward with the franchise, it should definitely incorporate some of the features from the portable version into future console releases. With luck, maybe the next time around EA's comic-book fighter won't feel quite so "imperfect."

Back when Capcom lost the fighting game rights to the massive library of Marvel superheroes, comic fans were left wondering just where their favorite comic characters would end up. Meanwhile, over at Electronic Arts, Def Jam Vendetta had proven to be a sizeable success, proving that the company could handle the fighting genre just as well as it handled sports. So it came as no surprise when EA announced that it had picked up the coveted Marvel fighting license. Now fanboys everywhere can get their hands on Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects and decide for themselves if EA's take on comics is a near mint hit.

PSPGameSpot
In essence, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects took two steps forward and a step and a half back in its transition to the PSP. It's nice to see that the developer has cleaned up many of the console game's nagging gameplay problems and that this style of beat-'em-up can indeed work on a portable platform. On the other hand, the inclusion of the card system isn't strong enough to replace the loss of the movies, animated comics, and online multiplayer. Also, painstakingly playing through the game each time you want to unlock a new character doesn't add replay value--it just gets old fast. The bottom line is that big Marvel fans who are also PSP owners may want to purchase this game, but everyone else should probably stick with a rental.

XboxGame Chronicles
As a fighting game, I found Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects lacking in the most fundamental of areas, character variety and depth of combat. Sure, you can boast about a game with more than a dozen characters but when they all play exactly the same you may as well only have one. For those looking to master a single and simple set of fighting controls then watch a huge assortment of character-specific animations play out, you’ll love this game, but true fighting fans will get bored halfway through the story mode and move on to something more challenging. The only thing that saved this game from utter disaster was the amazing visuals, both for the characters and the levels you get to fight in, and the multiplayer. Plus, I’m a sucker for unlockables, so I probably played the game more than I should just to see all that stuff. Rise of the Imperfects is a fun experience and a beauty of a game, but is probably best as a rental.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects starts promising... everything looks stylish and tight. The promise to go to work with a bunch of superheroes ((Wolverine, Magneto, Spider Man, Venom, Daredevil, etc.) in one game, including online options and a story mode, immediately got me interested. I love comics, beautiful design and creative characters and it was with some excitement that I started on this review.

Eliminating the lousy brawler aspects and focusing solely on one-on-one fights makes the PSP version of Marvel Nemesis better than the console release but that's faint praise. The basic fighting engine and graphics are decent, but Marvel Nemesis is still a below-average game that offers some fleeting entertainment in spite of its flaws.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects could have been a decent beat-'em-up game that provided some great fan service, if its poor single-player scenario hadn't unhinged the entire process. This game has tons of content, great characters, and simple controls, suggesting that it was designed with more casual players and/or Marvel fans to pick up and immediately enjoy--but the ragged gameplay mechanics and balance issues that infest the one-player game will likely frustrate this very same audience to no end. If you're a patient player that's into the subject material, you'll probably get some benefit out of Marvel Nemesis, thanks to the wealth of comic book goodies and the solid online fighting. All others should approach this game with caution, because there are certainly better beat-'em-up fighters out there.

Xbox Live play will keep you playing against other opponents, but will find challenges in winning battles. With the simple combat elements, every character basically plays the same. If you take the time to learn some combinations with characters, everyone else already figured them out as well. If you think you'd like Marvel Nemesis, rent it beforehand and see if the versus mode is enough for you, but I'd wait until it goes down to $20 to buy. A rental should be enough for your fix.

"Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects" acerta nos detalhes como a narrativa e o roteiro, além de ter um alto valor de produção, com boas cenas não-interativas e ótimo design de personagens. Mas faltou trabalhar um pouco mais o jogo em si, que tem controles lentos, missões repetitivas e inimigos pouco inteligentes. O modo de duelo diverte por algum tempo, mas há o velho problema da falta de competitividade, que faz perder a graça rapidamente. Ficou longe da perfeição.

I would like to see a sequel made with major adjustments done to the balance and other gameplay issue. These setbacks are the anchor that keeps this game from being fun. Get rid of the single player, we don’t need it. Just throw in more Marvel characters and more effective arenas and you might just have something here. As it is right now, the game fails to deliver a solid (never mind fun) experience to justify a purchase.

I'd love to recommend this game, but I simply can't. It might be worth a look if you love your super heroes dearly, or if you fancy an arena based fighting game - but if you are getting it for the arena matches, then be prepared to wade through the bad to unlock the good. Vs mode can be played with a friend too, which adds to the lasting appeal of the title, if you decide to pick it up. All in all, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is a mixed bag of imperfection and rather jagged diamonds that should seriously be weighed up before purchasing. And hey, if you're bent on getting a decent and destructive super hero game, then consider The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction - Chris would recommend it without a second thought!

If you're still wondering what's the curse, here's the downside: the overall concept and workings of the game are fantastic but it is burnt by the basics. Camera angles are unwieldy and make it impossible to aim a move towards a target. That's not the least of your worries, either, as button combos, specials or anything similar are impossible to perform. We constantly fought to elevate ourselves above a button masher, to no avail. Asides from these fundamental mistakes the game is good for some entertainment and is worth picking up from the bargain bin as the Xbox 360 approaches.

Imperfects, as a pure one-on-one fighter, is better than the clumsy home console versions. It provides some entertaining and authentic-looking super-hero combat that Marvel fans will enjoy. Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is a more enjoyable game on the PSP than it was on the PS2. Some of its flaws have been worked out, but it has also been stripped down enough that it doesn’t feel like its own game, but rather a companion to the PS2 version. If you’re just looking to kill a few minutes here and there pounding bad guys and mashing buttons, Nemesis is worth a look, but if depth is what you desire you’ll want to look elsewhere.

The only heroes left seems to be The Thing and Wolverine but as you continue on your quest to discover who is behind the attacks you will be joined by other familiar heroes. It's difficult to figure out what the point of Marvel Nemesis was, and even more difficult to understand why such a shoddy product was released early. It doesn't have a riveting story, it's easy, the gameplay is stale and shallow - in short, and it offers nothing new. Bottom line: Marvel Nemesis is a good-looking game that should've focused on one thing above all others. It might've been a good four-player arena combat game; it could've done all right as a mission-based beat-'em-up; and it's just barely possible that this might've worked as a 3D platformer starring Marvel's characters. In the end, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects for the GameCube doesn’t truly rise above its various imperfections that plague a game that could have been a fan favorite. It’s disappointing to see such potential fall flat seeing as the game does manage to surprise us with a great lineup of Marvel characters and familiar landscapes. If you’re willing to put up with the simplified controls and bad opponent AI, this game might be fun as a quick rental. If it’s a solid fighter you crave, this is not the game you’re looking for.

The reason for this is that Marvel Nemesis' single-player never graduates beyond a series of mindless smack-battles with AI-sparse no-names. If this were Dynasty Warriors that simplistic approach would be okay because there are a ton of enemies onscreen in that game and plowing through hundreds of medieval idiots is all part of the fun. Unfortunately there aren't anywhere near the amount of bad guys to fight against in Rise of the Imperfects, so when you're left to go up against a handful of less than challenging bad guys it gets boring really quick.

So what are we left with? Basically, all of the projectile attacks are fairly easy to dodge by sidestepping, so using them is usually not going to get you very far, so battles are a matter of trapping your opponent, as I said. Once trapped, it isn't overly easy to escape, so one good trapping can decide the battle. This being said, in multiplayer battles, going near the walls is a very bad idea. But, who wants to play a fighting game like this when there's better available? I've not, as of the time of this writing, had the chance to play Shrek Superslam, but I have played Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers, and it leaves this game in the dust in terms of quality. So, if you're desperate for a fighting game for the DS, I'd go with Guilty Gear or wait until a really good fighting games gets released on the system.

This game is a stinker. As a one on one beat-'em-up, it plays like a moronic Powerstone (running around huge arenas chucking objects at each other) but with none of the charm. Then in the Story mode, it scrapes the rancid bottom of the scrolling beat-'em-up barrel and smears it over tens of levels of sheer tedium. There's a bit where you punch some robots, right, and that's about as exciting as it gets.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects feels like a botched opportunity for a good fighting game. The Imperfects lack any sort of drawing power, so players never really end up giving a hoot about them, and the fact that they all seem to mirror a selected Marvel character in their approach cheapens their value within the game. The Marvel fighting game license was a huge acquisition for EA, and they need to treat it with much more respect – Marvel Nemesis feels like a title rushed out for the holiday season. The developers had the ideas that could have made the game a contender, but as a result of a lack of time, the game feels very undercooked. The focus appears to have been on the game’s visuals – it’s all glitz and glamour, with very little substance. All we can suggest is that they try again next year with a different approach – more Marvel, no Nemeses.

If this game didn’t have these outstanding visuals and such high production values it could easily be one of the worst to grace our consoles this year. Lack of combat depth and a lackluster story mode really leave this game in the dark ages. Perhaps Nihilistic and EA can bring something new to the table next year, but my guess is that it might as well be called Marvel Nemesis 2007.

Essentially Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is a game that just doesn't fit the DS. The game makes practically no use of the handhelds unique design and abilities and this results in a disappointing experience. The enemy AI is rather weak and has tendencies to do strange things. There's no real story to string the various battles together and to top it all off the game and the process by which you unlock the characters is simply drawn out. Had the game been enjoyable this wouldn't have been a problem. With a host of great games appearing for the DS this Christmas, it's difficult to recommend a game that just doesn't do the console any justice at all.

Despite its promising multiplayer (online and off) and some cool unlockables here and there, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects just fails to qualify as anything other than a rental. It just seems so substandard when it's supposed to be hovering high above the city it's out to protect. This isn't a celebration of Marvel's brilliance, just a muting of it beneath a shell of development that never gets off the ground. Indeed, imperfect fits right in the title. Capcom needs to get the license back.

Marvel Nemesis is a big waste. Given the Marvel licence and EA's generally solid production values, the end result is rather surprising. The lure of big name superheroes due to the current interest in them (It appears that every other summer movie features superheroes) may well see this sell enough copies to green light a sequel, but I just hope they take a long look at what they did wrong and develop something that can match the series' potential.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects on PSP feels like it was made by a bunch of Madden jocks as a way to screw with comic nerds. The lure of big name superheroes due to the current interest in them (It appears that every other summer movie features superheroes) may well see this sell enough copies to green light a sequel, but I just hope they take a long look at what they did wrong and develop something that can match the series' potential.

The game also features a quick match mode that allows you to jump right into hero-on-hero battles. All of the problems of the console version (weak combat, restrictive level design, unimaginative original characters and the misuse of a great license) plus new ones like the poor collision detection and the lack of a narrative. Nemesis is either an attempt to appeal to casual gamers and children who recognize superheroes from movies or television or it’s a sloppy attempt at an arcade fighter. Either way it fails.

I have to admit, my knowledge of the Marvel universe isn’t that great. Sure, everyone knows about Spiderman, and maybe the X-Men, but that’s about as far as it goes for me. Ask me about Johnny Ohm, The Thing, or pretty much any of the other Marvel creations, and you’ll be met with a blank face, or perhaps and smile and a nod at best.

There is no front on which Rise of the Imperfects is a success. It's a schizophrenic game that tests poorly as both a brawler and a fighter. 80 percent of the game is too easy, and the balance is cheap and simply not fun. With the freedom to pummel friends with a dozen proven Marvel heroes, this should have been an ambitious, entertaining game. Instead, it's just an ugly, boring jumble.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects shouldn't have been made for the Nintendo DS. The system doesn't have the capabilities to display the other versions' main strengths, which lie in their graphics and online multiplayer modes. Add this to the fact that this game is clearly an unfinished product (that still costs $35), and you've got a real lemon on your hands. Don't buy, rent, or otherwise play this game. You'll regret it.

There are many things which go towards making a game really really bad. Dodgy graphics and invisible walls, long loading times and unskippable cutscenes, repetitive missions and dull level layouts... We've suffered through them all.

There's no ifs about it: Marvel Nemesis is easily one of the worst Nintendo DS games released yet. It's extraordinarily hard to see any good in all this bad, and honestly I can't imagine any DS owner working their way through the progression because they're enjoying the clumsy, clunky, chunky, buggy, and most likely unfinished gameplay. If you like this game then you clearly enjoy being tortured.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is quite imperfect at that, lacking in any real reason to play unless you're an absolutely Marvel nut, in which case Ultimate Spider-Man will provide far more entertainment. I don't think that any of Marvel's do-gooders could save it from itself.
