I suppose I am the best possible choice to reviewing this game, being one of the biggest Matrix fans this side of the Mississippi and all. To give you an idea of how much I love the universe created by The Wachowski Brothers, I will tell you that I loved Enter the Matrix simply because it was a Matrix video game. Is it, objectively, a good game? I have no idea. It was a Matrix game, I played it, I loved it.

"The Matrix: Path of Neo" consegue, em parte, apagar a má impressão deixada por "Enter the Matrix".

It is a shame to see some technical issues hurt this overall experience, such as problems with the graphics and framerate, but this is still the most solid Matrix experience on the Xbox. Granted the competition isn’t stiff, but the game is still enjoyable.

The Matrix: Path of Neo was mainly created for Matrix fans, and not the uber hardcore who will just hate anything different from the pictures. It's great to have a game where you can be Neo in the Matrix world. All the right "Matrix" effects and pivotal points have been captured from the movies, and you should have a blast playing through your favorite parts. Path of Neo is not perfect and the main problem is the camera and the auto targeting system, along with some not so perfect graphics. I know these issues will generate a few haters, but if you can get over these facts, there is a game here to enjoy.

It's painful to watch a story you love become a victim to a horrible adaptation. I'm sure just looking at the title of this game, and given it's origin, "The Matrix" is enough to frighten you and put you in a frenzy to hit the X button and close this window.

The story loosely follows the story of Neo as told by the movie, and the game does show numerous scenes from the films and animated shorts to try and tie everything together, but the tale still doesn't really satisfy all that much. The adventure is fairly lengthy at around 20 hours, but the real length comes from trying to unlock the numerous extras that were included. Cheats, video clips, and other extras are all available for you to unlock, adding considerable length to the game. Path of Neo is a fun experience, despite its flaws.

Gamers are finally getting what they've been clamoring for: the opportunity to play as Neo. Path of Neo, through a mixture of missions, condensed and re-edited movie footage, and in-engine cinematics, takes you through the major events of all three feature films, from choosing between the red and blue pill, to the fateful trip to the machine city. Even better, there are some alternate paths that let you explore what would've happened if, for example, Neo hadn't chickened out and climbed back in the window of that office building. Other trails take interesting detours down side alleys of the Matrix you never knew existed, expanding the overall mythology. Some of the missions seem a bit stretched, needing little excuse to throw yet a few more agents in your way, but the good ones certainly outweigh the bad.

In Path of Neo you don't just take on the role of any old character, which you might have guessed already by looking at the title. It's up to you to save humanity from it's doom and who else is capable of that other than our very own Mr. Anderson! You walk through all three chapters of the trilogy in 25 missions, give or take. However, the game is not always true to the storyline. That being said, you will have to see to it that Neo isn't captured by the agents in one of the early missions by guiding him to the roof of the building he works in. Or you will find yourself protecting a security guard from a horde of SWAT-members in a shabby clock tower. Even the final mission differs from the movie plot, but of course I'm not going to release all to much info on that. I am, however, able to tell you that the final cut scene might well tickle your funny bone and give you a chuckle. It sure did for me!

Speaking of ambiance, Path of Neo’s audio is something you will want to experience first-hand - namely the superb voice-acting, primarily because it’s mostly taken directly from the movies. Sound effects are done in unparalleled quality, too. Just as it appears beautiful to walk upon ice in this game, it sounds beautiful. Heck, it may even sound better than it looks now that I think about it. The soundtrack is outstanding as well. All of this truly does complement and help generate the unforgettable Matrix sentiment. For a game based on a movie franchise, this is huge.

Practically every Matrix moment has been tucked up this game's sleeve. It may not a solid fighting game or as fluid as it could be, but Path of Neo will still satisfy the diehard Matrix fans, if there are any left. For everyone else, a solid weekend rental will suffice the curiosity.

We might as well get it out of the way and tell you right from the beginning that The Matrix: Path of Neo is a whole lot better than 2003's spin-off, Enter the Matrix. It looks better, it plays better, and taking control of the former Mr. Anderson is more satisfying than running around as Ghost or Niobe any day of the week. But more than that, Path of Neo tries to do things technologically that few other titles rarely attempt (particularly with the PlayStation 2 version) and it strives to push the limits of its hardware with a surplus of particles, shadows, lighting effects, and animations. Sometimes, though, as is the case with most things, you have to know when to say when.

All told, while the game certainly isn't everything I hoped it would be, I feared this franchise might be going, and I could see a lot of people willing to overlook the missteps in exchange for finally getting a real shot at being The One.

It’s taken over six years for them to get around to it, but at long last we have a game that offers what fans of the Matrix have really wanted since they walked out of the theater after that first movie in 1999 – to be Neo. More than that, we get some new glimpses into the Matrix storyline, re-edited clips from the movies, an entirely rewritten end to the story, and a steady of flow of martial arts craziness for good measure. The question, of course, is if the whole thing turned out to be any good.

The Matrix Path of Neo is a solid game when it wants to be but in my opinion a little rough around the edges. Whilst overall the game is an improvement over Enter the Matrix in some areas it some how feels like the production values aren’t the same. I think Matrix fans will lap up this game because its very nature appeals and puts them into the driving seat so to speak. For action fans then I think that this game has something to offer but is still not as good as games like Max Payne for example. I enjoyed playing the game because I’m a bit of a fan of the films and enjoyed playing as Neo. Anyone who isn’t so sure should rent the game out first and try before a purchase.

Overall, the Path of Neo is a decent game, and one that goes a long way towards making amends for Enter The Matrix. However, a large number of technical issues and some combat flaws, along with a number of less than stellar puzzle mechanics make this a game for hardcore Matrix fans or some martial arts action buffs instead of for everyone.

While The Matrix: Path of Neo isn't going to win over anybody who doesn't currently give a flip about the franchise, this is a game that fans ought to look at. Certainly plenty of people have yearned to be able to do all the crazy crap that Neo could pull off in the movies, and Path of Neo delivers in this respect. Undoubtedly some fans will take serious issue with the untidy editing and bizarre tone, and the gameplay might be a bit too much to deal with for those who prefer their action with a tad more method to its madness. But beyond these problems lies an appreciable amount of high-flying action that's well suited for what The Matrix has always been about: kicking ass and looking cool doing it

The Matrix: Path of Neo is obviously based on the film trilogy The Matrix and is a spin-off of The Matrix that was released in 2003. Naturally, the first thing everyone will want to know: is it better? Yes, far better. It plays better and looks better. Path of Neo is much more technologically advanced than most other games even try to be, but then again, in this new generation of games and consoles that is what was expected. It is definitely ahead of its time in lighting, effects, and animation, but Atari may have taken it a little too far this time.

Aber ich sag Ihnen mal was: Mir hat The Matrix: Path of Neo tatsächlich Spaß bereitet.

Everyone wants to be the hero. When fans were given the chance to Enter the Matrix two years ago they found it wasn't quite wonderland, in part because Neo was off limits. But Shiny and Atari have finally given the people what they want: a vision of Keanu Reeves (or his sound-alike) in full trenchcoat, with enough combat abilities plugged in to take out a legion of Agents. The question is, should we have been more specific in our wishes?

When Neo runs up someone's torso and delivers a skull-crushing volley to the face in slow motion, it ticks the box next to "true to source material" and the one next to "suitable videogame moment" so quickly you'd swear it was using two pens. When he cuts down an enemy with a samurai sword, and then without even turning fires the blade into the chap behind him and then boots him off it again before spinning into a roundhouse to someone's slacking jaw, you don't even have to suspend your disbelief. It's meant to be like this.

PlayStation 2Deeko
Overall, I'd have to say that this game is very well done for what they had to work with. They learned from the tragedy of Enter the Matrix, and allowed you to follow the main focus of the movies. Even though it is difficult to master, I highly recommending trying to punch through as best as you can, especially if you are a fan of the trilogy, because there is nothing cooler than fighting a horde of Agent Smiths while realizing you're the one in control.

This movie came pretty much out of nowhere and stunned audiences with its story and special effects. The movie I am referring to is the original Matrix. Since that time there have been two lackluster movie sequels, a cartoon movie series (The Animatrix), as well as many less then stellar games that have been produced off this storyline. Hopping to resurrect the franchise is a new game entitled The Matrix: Path of Neo, which offers gamers the chance to go into the shoes of Neo from the very beginning moments of the first movie until the end, as well as having an all-new ending written by the creators of the franchise. Read on to find out if you should rush out and get this game, or just stick with watching the first movie.

Ultimately, The Matrix: Path of Neo is a decent follow-up to Enter the Matrix. While the game has its problems, it’s an entertaining and fun romp through the films – this time as the hero we’ve all wanted to play. Fans of the films should check it out, but you might just want to rent it to see the new ending.

By the opening menu, I already had two serious concerns about The Matrix: Path of Neo. My first was the Matrix label. The trilogy that kicked off so auspiciously with 1999’s The Matrix never lived up to its initial promise. Additionally, the previous video game effort by Atari, Enter the Matrix, was mediocre even by the low standards for movie games. Did this franchise have any more to give?

It's easy to say that Path of Neo is the best Matrix game ever. Unfortunately, for most people that will sound a little too much like "the best turd I ever tasted." It's actually a game that deserves better than that.

Anybody remember "Enter the Matrix?" No? I do. It's an agonizing memory to say the least. I think most of you know why, especially those of you who had the misfortune of playing the PC version. More than two years ago, Atari saw a golden opportunity. They seized the Matrix franchise with the notion of creating a "cool" game just in time for the theatre launch of Matrix Reloaded (how novel). Of course, in addition to employing the top-notch cast from the Matrix movies to play through all the additional cut-scenes, Atari also had to choose a renowned development team that was up to the task of making such a game. Shiny seemed like a good choice. Unfortunately for us, they didn't do a very good job. As a matter of fact, the first game was dreadful (read our review to find out why). So, a few years later, Shiny was offered a decent chance to redeem itself with The Matrix: The Path of Neo.
64
WindowsGamersHell.com
Shiny developed the previous The Matrix game, Enter the Matrix, which was very costly but not a very satisfactory game. In The Matrix: Path of Neo Shiny made efforts to improve the experience by choosing Neo as the main character, but it was not enough to salvage the game from inadequacy.

I’m not sure which Matrix game is worse, Enter the Matrix or The Matrix: Path of Neo, because they pretty much suck equally. All the problems in EtM return in PoN, with about the only new feature is the ability to play as Neo. There is just a myriad of problems with this game including the camera, the targeting, the framerate, the forced training, the level design, the graphics, the controls, etc. I did have some fun playing a few key moments from the movies, like the famous lobby shootout and large Smith battle, but for every good movie-battle level, there are three stupid, time wasting levels you must endure.

Navigating your way to those cool moments can get painful. Camera angles flip between a fixed position and a mouse-look aiming mode, which will have you heaving in short order. Fifteen minutes into the game, the stuttering camera views sent me into fits as I ran down staircases, fending off security guards. And the graphics...I never thought I’d see anything more wooden and flat than Keanu’s acting, but thanks to the forced animations (Neo’s either at a dead stop or a mad sprint, with no in-between) and dated, pasty-faced textures, I stand corrected. This isn’t a terrible game. On the contrary, Path of Neo is the best Matrix game to date. Talk about keeping expectations low.

Either way you look at it, Path of Neo is a worthwhile game adaptation of the trilogy and significantly better than Enter the Matrix. The only problem is that the game has many of its own flaws as well that prevent the game from being what fans truly deserved. There are many glitches in the gameplay and graphics alike that bring to mind questions about the production budget. Downfalls aside I do have to admit that I had a lot of fun playing the game and recommend it for anyone still in love with the franchise. It's almost the game that it should have been but it could have used some more polishing to iron out the wrinkles.

Kończąc tą wyjątkowo długą recenzję wiem dokładnie, jak podsumować Matrix: Path of Neo. Jednak…

After playing The Matrix: Path of Neo, I found myself asking the same question Cypher poses: "Why, oh why, didn't I take the blue pill?" The Wachowski brothers' latest foray into gaming underwhelms, failing to convey the spark and visual appeal of the films.

Is it really necessary to revisit a film franchise that has gone by the wayside since the last film was released more than two years ago? The whole idea behind The Matrix: Path of Neo is that the answer to that question is, "yes." Essentially a movie trilogy companion game, Path of Neo starts off in a rough spot, trying to find relevance in a pop-culture that has essentially put the franchise on the back burner already. From there, the game has to fight an uphill battle.

I think Matrix: Path of Neo wasted a lot of potential. It was cool to punch Morpheus through the walls of a dojo in Neo's training. But struggling with the awful controls and trudging through the repetitive, boring levels brings down the experience to a level low enough that I can't recommend buying the game. After every session I had with the game, I felt myself wanting to play the game less and less. I actually think Path of Neo is better than Enter the Matrix, simply because there is potential entertainment to be found here, but I'd recommend a weekend rental at most. Morpheus was wrong, because Neo's not The One.

The Matrix: Path of Neo is a turbulent ride between decent action, half-baked graphics and camera, and occasionally clunky, but undeniably authentic presentation. It's an awkward position to be the bearer of bad news to Matrix fans, but this is not the game that any of us had envisioned back in 1999 when we walked out of the movie theater and thought about how cool a Matrix game could be. The Reloaded missions keep the game from being a complete wash, but they can't save it from mediocrity. The introductory levels drag on lifelessly, and the game's "alternative" ending is bad enough to make players wish they'd taken a blue pill instead of buying this game. I wonder if they made a video game of Bound if it'd end with Jennifer Tilly shooting Gina Gershon…

Remember Enter the Matrix? Shiny’s last game, timed to coincide with the launch of the last two Matrix movies, was seriously flawed, but still included moments of fun. Path of Neo addresses the main complaint about the first game—you couldn’t play as Neo—but bugs, bad decisions, and schizophrenic cutscenes leave this game in worse shape than its predecessor.
