In summary, I've moved in my impressions of MDK 2 from an initial "B" range, after earlier levels, to an "A" rating upon completion of the game. Make no mistake, this game can be characterized as a "shooter," and it is really best suited for those who enjoy a Tomb Raider kind of romp. So, pure adventurers, please be warned. Having said that and looking back at the whole experience, particularly after the brilliant later levels, I'm led to have nothing but the highest praise for Bioware's ability to "expand this MDK legacy" with a game that challenged, amazed and, best of all, made me laugh. Thank you—it's a masterpiece.

DreamcastIGN
And all of these things, class, is why MDK2 is this generation's best example of a pure action shooter, and for that matter, why it goes down in my book as one of the genre's most complete titles to date. Awesome visuals, creative design, killer boss encounters, excellent control, tons of variety, and even a dash of challenge thrown in for good measure. What more does an old school gamer need, really?
93
DreamcastGamer's Pulse
Eccentric, inspired, hilarious, frustrating, gorgeous; MDK2 is all these things and more. Though it's not for everyone by any means, it's also nothing like you've ever played before. Sure it has its flaws, but what doesn't? If you're weary of generic franchises and carbon-copy sequels and are looking for something a little "different," you owe it to yourself to check out this game. Just know what you're getting yourself into.

WindowsGame Over Online
All in all, MDK 2 is one hell of a game. Another reason I was a little skeptical was because it's sort of a port from a console, and ports haven't had the greatest track record. But this is one of the few that was done right, adding full keyboard support (which should be a given when porting games), and save-anywhere capability, among other gameplay enhancements. If you like to have fun playing games, and even if you like to laugh, there are a few parts in MDK 2 that are simply FUNNY, not the normal supposed-to-be-funny crap that you see in a lot of games, but clever humour, something that is generally very rare. So go buy this game, now!

WindowsActionTrip
With a risk of sounding like a goddamn groupie, I will go out on a limb and say that MDK2 is one of the best "pure action adventures" I have played this year. It's hard to compare it with some of the other excellent games of its genre, like Evolva, and it's unfair really. The two are very different, and do not nurture the "same styles". Each game is in its own right special, so I'll just stick to my final comment --- MDK2 is one of the best "pure action adventures" I have played this year. Period.

WindowsGameSpy
There are many games I've enjoy playing, but it's been years since I've found myself having this much fun and getting as involved in the story line of a game as I have with MDK2. Making a game that's fun, funny, and challenging is a monstrous task, and yet Bioware has managed to do that without sacrificing points in any of those three areas. MDK2 will almost certainly appeal equally to pure action fans as well as those looking for more intellectual involvement. Passing this game up would almost be a crime.

MDK2 is how a sequel should be done -- same flavor, lots of added meat. It’s not ground-breaking, and at times you’ll get damned frustrated. But in the end, it’s a hell of a solid platformer that any fan of the genre should definitely get. With tight controls and amusing characters, MDK2 is definitely a winner.

WindowsGamePro
MDK2's style of gameplay doesn't lend itself well to multiplay, so the replay value is slim, but the single-player experience is guaranteed to suck hours away from your life. BioWare has definitely captured the look, feel, and humor of the original and have made MDK2 one of the best 3rd person action games to date.

WindowsEurogamer.net (UK)
With so many interesting things to do and unique puzzle-driven gameplay, the fact that it still harbours a linear style of play can be discounted to a certain extent. Reinvigorate your childhood fantasies of living in a cartoon and pick up MDK2 - there ain't much better in the genre.

WindowsElectric Games
If you enjoyed the first MDK, I can highly recommend MDK 2 to you. The graphics are better, the puzzles more inventive, and you get to play all three characters for a more diverse gameplay experience. It's funny, enjoyable, and a refreshing change from the simple shoot-em-up. Bottom Line: MDK 2 is a blast. This is a fantastic game that is fast-paced, humorous, and inventive. It combines puzzle solving with fast-paced action. Some respawning creatures get annoying after a while and there are only nine levels, but overall this game is a ton of fun.

Кстати, где моя любимая игрушка — The World's Most Interesting Bomb?

DreamcastAll Game Guide
Overall, MDK 2 offers a fast-paced action experience that is innovative in many aspects. The control feels right at home almost from the beginning, and the visuals and gameplay will stun you, not to mention challenge your brain. All in all, you'll come out of MDK 2 with a definite feeling of satisfaction and an idea of how third-person shooters should really play.

WindowsPower Unlimited

DreamcastGaming Target
MDK2 offers a good solid shoot 'em up romp and most importantly it is fun but slightly let down by not very many features and a poor replay value, the game takes time to finish and one it is so is the replay factor.

WindowsFiringSquad
MDK2 is a game that should not be missed. It faithfully keeps the MDK name alive (whatever it stands for), while still managing to introduce refreshing game play. It is nice to see the third person action concept still works in something other than Diablo.

DreamcastGame Chronicles
MDK2 is an "old school" shooter offering intense battles with unique enemies and killer bosses set against a backdrop of imaginative level design. Once you get past the learning curve of the complex controls you will find yourself sucked into the amazing graphics and rich environments. The stunning 3D-rendered cinematics keep the hilarious story moving along and serve as your reward for completing the nine insanely difficult levels.

What really stands out, besides the wonderfully detailed graphics, and the series trademark sense of humor, is the excellent gameplay. It's really a lot of fun to control these characters and this is the type of game you will want to revisit often. There's no shortage of great action games on the Dreamcast, but MDK2 manages to offer something new and fun that almost anybody can get into. Just as long as you're into the ultraviolence!

WindowsGamer's Pulse
All of the characters from the Trio of heroes to the Poopsies to Swang to BFB are a joy to watch and listen to. The cut scenes are the best and funniest I have ever seen, and are worth the price of the game alone. Even with the addition of Dr. Hawkins and the “jumping from hell” sections, MDK2 is another well-deserved feather in Bioware's cap. If you liked the first one, you have to play this one; if you like a solid, fun, warped game, then this is a must-have for you. I lived in Edmonton for a few years and walked by the Bioware offices many, many times. Having seen this game, I can now explain some of the loud explosions of laughter (and other things) I heard.

However, despite my picky criticism, the non-frustrating times in MDK 2 are simply tons of fun. The game is genuinely funny, has great voices and a terrific comic book flair. I didn't even mention the different weapons, powerups, and the monotony-busting mini levels where you fly a rocket, pilot a fish, and all sorts of crazy stuff. With tons of action and a really long game, you're guaranteed to get your money's worth. Who knew that being a janitor could be so much fun?

The cliche is that sequels are never as good as their originals. MDK 2 proves to be the exception to the rule though, as the newest edition of Interplay's somewhat silly shooter is a sizable improvement over the original game. This may be because the game is now on a more powerful system, or it could be all due to the efforts of the new developer, BioWare - a developer known mostly for the PC RPG Baldur's Gate. Regardless, MDK 2 is a solid shooter with one of the most creative play mechanics to appear in any game thus far.

WindowsIGN
There's a real shortage of console games on the PC -- a shortage of good console games that is. We here at IGNPC tend to overemphasize our anti-console bias (except that nasty Vincent Lopez), but every once in a while, we just get that urge to play a console type game. Not that we'd go out and actually buy a console or anything. Enough exposition -- MDK 2 is one of the best console experiences I've had on the PC in a while.

The first thing a fan of MDK 1 wants to know is offcourse: "is MDK2 better or at least as good as the first one?" Well i can tell you this, MDK2 is a worthy sequel to MDK1.

WindowsAll Game Guide
The graphics are top-notch and it runs like a charm on my Pentium II 450 and Matrox G400, even with all the graphics options enabled -- three cheers to BioWare for ironing out the code and doing a great job of optimizing the engine. Sound, on the other hand, is lackluster and somewhat wanting. The nondescript aural aspect is hardly memorable and anything halfway decent in this area would have added more icing on this already tasty piece of cake. So, Hectic, Max and Hawkins are waiting -- the aliens are back and the world needs saving once again! Perhaps when you're done this time, you can get that well-earned vacation!

Not everyone will fall in love with MDK 2, but those players who loved the original very likely will. There are some notable flaws in the game - repetitive bits of level design, high frustration level, short game length, and linear puzzles - but the core of the gameplay is a lot of fun in a classic platform manner, and the new additions add a lot of gameplay value. Offbeat humor, spectacular graphics, and excellent gameplay are the high points, it's just a shame the journey through the bizarre world of MDK is over so soon.

Well, I didn't exactly fall in love with the controls. However, after a while, I did get used to them. Although they are awkward, they do make sense. The game ran fast and fluid, and the controls were very responsive. I even liked the camera angles. As a matter of fact, the only things I didn't like were the controls (at first), the difficulty (or lack thereof), and the cut scenes. Other than that, it's a perfect (and perfectly fun) game.

When it was announced that BioWare would be developing the sequel to Shiny's 1997 action hit, MDK, there was some understandable concern among fans of the original. While BioWare had become known for its high-quality role-playing game Baldur's Gate, it wasn't exactly known for its quirky 3D shooters. But that's about to change. MDK 2 is everything you'd want in a sequel. It improves on the original's technology and expands its gameplay without losing the off-kilter sense of humor that helped make MDK so unique.

WindowsGameSpot (Belgium/Netherlands)

Ask the designers of the original MDK at Shiny Entertainment as to what MDK stands for, and they'll likely give you a different answer every time -- ranging from Massive Dollops of Ketchup to Million Dollar K.O. In fact, they often went out of their way to avoid ever revealing to what the letters MDK refer, simply because that was the one question everyone had when the game was released. The popular belief was that the name of the game stood for Murder Death Kill, since the lead character Kurt Hectic could blast the eye balls out of his enemies with his deadly sniper cannon. But not only did that idea conflict with the game's light-hearted nature and innocently goofy characters, it was also a term taken from a Sylvester Stallone movie (and Lord knows we don't want to associate MDK with that).

WindowsGameStar (Germany)

My first impressions of MDK2 were poor. Since I never played the original, I was not familiar with the back-story or the characters. The name itself, an acronym rumoured to stand for "Murder Death Kill," also did not give me high expectations. The introduction was cute, but the delivery was minimal at best. A game that requires Open GL and 3d hardware acceleration for optimal gameplay should not have an introduction which consists of opening a 3d comic book and basically making the player read its 2d static pages with one of those generic narrative voices that basically says, "Ok, this game is supposed to be a cheesy comic book, so anything cheesy that happens is on purpose." The basic plot is this: Three kooky characters have to battle green aliens from outer space.
