These minor faults aside, however, MechWarrior 3 is a worthy sequel to the saga of Mechwarriors. While I found it unnerving how many logos were presented at the beginning of the game's intro (Fasa, Microprose, Hasbro, Zipper, Microsoft) - one doesn't see so many usually - that has nothing to do with the appreciation of the game, and is but a minor detail. While the AI could use some work, and a few glitches in the game should be fixed (such as trucks happily jumping, or the game crashing) they aren't anything a patch won't fix (am I endorsing the 'release-now-patch-rest-later' philosophy? I sincerely hope I'm not). I would definitely recommend this game to any veteran Mechwarrior, as well as to aspiring recruits. (Granted, that sounded corny.) This is, as I said, a worthy addition to the series and is definitely worth the gaming dollar.

In conclusion, you can tell I really enjoyed playing Mechwarrior 3. It provides an innovative and fun style of gameplay, which is incomparable to anything else in the simulation genre. The developers have really put a lot of attention into the detail of the game, and it shows. So gear up, strap in and start blasting away in your 100-ton machine of devastation, the ride is killer!

In the end, I can't say enough good things about MechWarrior 3. It's got everything to keep gamers happy and is a perfect complement to the already popular MechWarrior universe. Zipper Interactive has certainly proven that they have the skills to pay to bills. If this is the evolution of the MechWarrior series, we can't wait to see MechWarrior 4!

If it were just a little bit longer, Mechwarrior 3 would be a five-star game. It has all the right touches in all the right places, and it is almost a compliment to say that it ends too soon. Zipper has several add-ons in the works; hopefully these will give extended play value to a game that certainly deserves it.

Mijn advies is dan ook om dit spel vast en zeker een keertje te bekijken. maybe you have what it takes to be a Mechwarrior ... Over & Out.

There are plenty of areas in which MicroProse and Zipper could have expanded upon the ideas of MechWarrior 2 - there's a lot in the Battletech universe that would have done much to advance the gameplay here. We could have been given more of the support weapons like mortars, and more control over the course of the campaign. As it stands, there's little new here - but still a lot that's entertaining. MechWarrior 3 hasn't knocked its impending competition from Activision out of the ring, but it will certainly go the distance.

All in all, MW3 is an excellent game - except in multi-player. The graphics are top-notch, and the sound is also of very high quality. The single-player experience is far superior to its predecessors. Unfortunately, the bugs in multi-player detract a lot from this game, and the rumors of a multi-player add-on pack to fix these gaping holes are a very low blow by the company. Shame on the programmers for not having multi-player fully ready to go, but kudos for making an excellent game in all other areas.

Game Revolution
In the end, MechWarrior 3 is an excellent simulation of piloting a BattleMech and stays true to all the precepts laid down by FASA in the BattleTech board games. It manages to be a hard hitting, enduring action title. Unfortunately, it is also marred by a lack of atmosphere and a few rough edges. Mechwarrior 3 is a superior action game, but an inferior overall experience to the previous games in the series. Fans of Mech combat should definitely try it out, but perhaps take out the old Mech 2 CD during play, pop it into the stereo, and just let it all flow. . . while you keep an eye out for Heavy Gear 2.

Hats off to all the companies involved for an excellent single player game. Double kudos to Zipper for a beautiful game engine. A slap on the wrist for not taking multiplayer all the way it could go. I understand the 8 player limit, when I think about several salvoes of LRM20s going off (and each missile being essentially independent), but the lack of anything but deathmatch is unexcusable to me, especially when I imagine some hopelessly slow Daishi trying to defend a flag against my Vulture's blistering array of LRMs. This is basically the entire reason for the loss of a star on the verdict.

I should probably start of by telling you that I didn't play MechWarrior 2 and therefore didn't know what to expect. I wanted to get MW2, but I didn't have a joystick at the time, and the one that I wanted (the Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro) was a little too expensive for me back then. In those days, I still played Descent with the keyboard. *cringe*
