Trivia
It's interesting to note, considering that this game marks the birth of the now famous sci-fi simulation games based on the Battletech universe, that in FASA's original p&p products games, the Mechwarrior modules were actually the rpg spin-off books based on the Battletech franchise!!
Instead of piloting Mechs like the basic Battletech board game, you created specific characters like spies, pilots, commandos, etc. and developed them on a collection of adventures in classic D&D fashion.

Anyone try the Periphery/Hesperus II cheat? If anyone never knew about this cheat, and still has this game, one could make tons of money and beat the Dark Wing Lances easily. Simply earn 1-3 million with your Jenner 'mech, and then go to any of the Kurita or Steiner Periphery Worlds (the ones that are sparsely populated) and sell the 'mech there. If I remember correctly, you could either buy a Warhammer or two Phoenix Hawks at Hesperus II using the money that you earned by selling the Jenner. Repeat as necessary and you'll wind up with good mechs to destroy the Dark Wing.
Mechwarrior had music in it, but was only played when you were at the bar or transporting to another location. A bit odd...
