Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - Breakthrough

Despite the fact that the Allied Assault engine is starting to feel its age, developer TKO put together an excellent expansion. The opening scene lives up to its MoH predecessors, putting you in the middle of a sandstorm in Africa. Visibility is only about 10 meters, and you’re supposed to punch a hole in about 200 meters of Nazi fortifications. Oh, and all of your allies tend to die in about the first 30 seconds.

Breakthrough macht genauso viel Spaß wie Hauptprogramm und Vorgänger-Addon. Zwar fehlen die richtig genialen Momente, aber spielerisch gibt’s praktisch nur positives hervorzuheben. In erster Linie die toll designten, abwechslungsreichen und vor allem hochdramatischen Einsätze. Dazu kommt, dass der Schwierigkeitsgrad fairer wirkt als im ersten Addon und das Ganze jetzt ein wenig umfangreicher ist. Breakthrough ist eine prima Fortsetzung!

While this game is brief in its offering, it does carry on the flame for the MOHAA series. It provides some great levels to charge your way through. The multiplayer levels are well balanced offering plenty of new layouts to learn and the new game mode does offer something new to the usual matches. This won't change your life, but it does bring new life to the MOHAA series and is certainly an improvement on Spearhead last year. Only the lure of the BAFTA-winning Call Of Duty or the darker horror leanings of Return To Castle Wolfenstein rear their ugly head as WWII competitors.

I love expansion packs. They add on just enough to make the game fresh after you played the whooie out of the original. Plus the best part is most of them are only around $30.00, a reasonable price to pay for more of what you loved. Now, is this game worth it? I would have to say yes, but you might want to wait till they release a pack where they want you to get both expansion packs in the same box for like $40-$50.00 or something. If you just can’t wait I would say go pick it up and enjoy. This is one game I can’t say I’m sorry for having in my library of games. It has 11 new missions that you can complete in a day or so making it short but worth it, nine new multiplayer levels, new AND improved multiplayer battle modes, new models, skins, and high quality voice acting, and brand new (for the game) historically accurate weaponry and vehicles including the M4 Sherman tank. Don’t fear enlisting, it’s worth the experience.

Bevor Sie dort die Sonne genießen können, müssen Sie allerdings erst einmal die deutschen und italienischen Verbände aus Nordafrika vertreiben. Als US-Sergeant John Baker platzen Sie mitten in die Schlacht um den Kasserinenpass. In bewährter Medal of Honor-Manier werden Sie als Einzelkämpfer losgeschickt, um hinter den feindlichen Linien aufzuräumen.

Un petit mot sur la technique. Graphiquement pas grand-chose à dire, le moteur accuse honnêtement ses deux ans d'âge et s'en sort plutôt bien. La bande-son ne dément pas la réputation de la série qui nous sert un univers sonore des plus prenants. Les hurlements sont convaincants, les balles fusent autour de vous, les explosions retentissent, les effets de distances sont superbement rendus sur certaines cartes qui se déroulent loin des affrontements. Bref, c'est un régal.

It looks like TKO thought up a new storyline and added a couple of new maps. The graphics look oldfashioned, the difficulty level is higher but rather because of crappy graphics and less available ammo than because of improved overall gameplay or newly added things. Repetitive scenario’s and nothing that makes it really stand out of the crowd just adds to the feeling that Breakthrough is a quick cash cow. If you really want to play this expansion, be sure to know that until you’ve finished it, frustration will become your companion.

Deze tweede MOH uitbreiding moet het dan ook afleggen tegen al de nieuwe kleppers die deze maand op de markt verschijnen... MoH krijgt het stilaan moeilijk om de concurrentie bij te benen. Voor de diehard MoH fans betekent Breakthrough echter gewoon meer lekkers.

Het meeste uit Medal of Honor Allied Assault: Breakthrough heb je al wel eens een keertje eerder gezien in een MoH-game. Bovendien zal deze Breakthrough weinig gamers aanzetten tot de aankoop van het origineel. Het blijft dus ongeduldig wachten op het nieuwe MoH-game, Pacific Assault.

Un add-on qui remplit parfaitement sa fonction, avec son lot de nouvelles scènes d'action très bien montées et qui vous donnera envie de réinstaller Medal of Honor. En revanche, tout comme En Formation, la durée de vie est trop court par rapport au prix du soft.

Après En Formation, le premier add-on de Medal of Honor : Débarquement Allié qui, rappelons-le, s’était avéré légèrement en déça de nos espoirs, pêchant par une durée de vie très courte, une IA à revoir et un manque de nouveautés, 2015 se devait de poursuivre l’aventure par une suite qui, cette fois-ci, comblerait bien les attentes de tous les fans de la série. Avec la sortie de MOHDA : l’Offensive, les développeurs entendent bien remettre en place les détracteurs du premier add-on.

Breakthrough boasts an interesting new multiplayer mode that forces killed soldiers to be rescued before rejoining combat. But in terms of the single-player campaign, I think it’s about time for EA to honorably discharge this series from service. It’s just re-treading missions at this point, and Call of Duty is standing by to eat its lunch.

Electronic Arts ei raaski päästää maailmansotaräiskintöjen arkkivaaria eläkkeelle, vaan lähettää arpisen veteraaninsa vielä yhteen taisteluun. Breakthrough-lisälevyn jälkeen Medal of Honor: Allied Assaultista on tiristetty vihon viimeisetkin mehut irti.

Breakthrough se montre plutôt décevant sur de nombreux points, cependant il est globalement meilleur que le précédent add-on. Cette extension vous fera tout de même passer de bons moments à condition d'avoir la machine adéquate et évidemment le jeu Medal of Honor.

The development team at EALA and TKO were given the formidable task of creating the second expansion for Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, a game that earned much respect from gamers. While their endeavor shows serious effort, the actual eleven mission add-on is far from a notable breakthrough. The original MoH:AA was comparable to Saving Private Ryan with its brutally realistic settings and challenging campaign, but this expansion feels more like Force 10 From Navarone or Where Eagles Dare -- watchable, but occasionally tedious films. You can always fast forward through weaker moments from those films, but you can't do that with Breakthrough, which leaves you with the feeling that this "operation" just won't end.

In the end, I cannot deny that the action scenes were fun to play. Medal of Honor is still the only video game franchise that manages to capture the atmosphere of war movies like Saving Private Ryan. (OK, just you wait till Call of Duty hits the stores. - 2Lions) Another positive aspect is that this expansion pack treats players to a slightly lengthier experience than in Spearhead. The bad thing, however, is that Breakthrough is not as good as the original game, and coupled with AI issues it turned out to be a substandard action game. Plus, the challenges and missions are recurrent and nothing more than fleeting moments of fun. Unfortunately, all this doesn't amount up to an original or a particularly rewarding FPS experience.
