The variety of enemies, obstacles, and bosses in this game is incredibly engaging and will test both your reflexes and your memorization skills. Complemented by one of the best soundtracks on the system, this is an undeniable classic.

It’s crazy to think the team made this game in their spare time but when the passion is there legendary games are created and Mega Man 2 easily shares that distinction. This is definitely one of the greatest games of all time and should be not be missed by anyone.

What can I say. Mega Man 2 is a fantastic game, and one worthy of the classic status. It has epic music, much-improved graphics, tighter control, and more dynamic bosses/stages. The inclusion of two difficulty levels adds replay value to a game that already has it in droves. The passwords, E-tanks, and special items are all worthy inclusions; nothing that was added into the sequel was unnecessary, unlike later entries. All in all, Mega Man 2‘s development team once again deserves massive props for being able to craft such a timeless game on little to no sleep. Let us hoist our E-tanks in thanks!

NESLens of Truth (Jun 26, 2009)
Mega Man 2 has everything you could ask for in a 2D platforming game – great graphics and sound, addictive and rewarding gameplay mixed with fantastic stages. The game is nearly perfect. If I HAD to say something bad about MM2, it would be that I wish it were longer – a common negative for fantastic games, especially on the NES. This doesn’t matter one bit, in my opinion, Mega Man 2 one of the top 3 games on the NES.
NESNES Archives (May 13, 2009)
Mega Man 2 takes everything that was good about Mega Man and improves upon it. If you are a fan of platformers or shooter then you have to pick this one up. If you aren’t this could be the game that changes your mind.

This is one of the best games ever released on the NES or any system. It is also available on the original Game Boy However, I have never tried it so I don't know if it is changed from this one. This is a significant improvement over the first game. The first game was just the tip of the iceberg and is recognized for being a bit difficult. The games following Mega Man II lacked the creativity of this game, although there were some new innovations here and there in each one. For you young 'punks' who only have knowledge of Capcom through the Resident Evil style games, this is something from their previous years.
NESThunderbolt Games (Oct 09, 2004)
Mega Man: the whole series is basically run-'n'-gun action. Move around an unsettlingly calm blue robot, shoot white pellets at odd creatures that pop up and fight a boss robot if, and when, the conclusion of the stage is reached. Not exactly an all-star premise. One of the draws, though, is the ability to choose the order in which you want to complete the stages. Another is the satisfaction of seeing that particular piece of the stage-select puzzle blank after returning from a glorious victory. And then there's the final showdown in the center of the board, which of course is only available after beating -- in the case of Mega Man 2 -- eight robot bosses. This leads to three more stages of mayhem, a reprise of the robot bosses and, finally, the disposable doctor himself.
WiiMag'64 (May 23, 2010)
Dr Wily's back, and it's down to Megaman to beat off all of his robotic hench-men, blag their weapons and make his way to Wily's castle for the final confrontation. This platform masterpiece is only beaten by the Mario series for sheer brilliance, and ranks as a totally fantastic and highly addictive game! We've had an imported version since last August and we're STILL playing it. Buy it as soon as you can - you won't be disappointed!
WiiIGN (Sep 16, 2008)
Capcom's intention with the upcoming Mega Man 9 is to mirror what made Mega Man 2 such a success -- and to emphasize the point, they've positioned this Virtual Console release of the game as a lead-in to the new title's WiiWare debut. The company's marketing tactics are sound here, as there's no better way to get yourself ready for Mega Man's next great adventure than by experiencing his greatest past quest. Let's also hope that strong sales of this, the first Mega Man that came to the VC last month and Mega Man 9 all together will encourage Capcom to continue to support Nintendo's retro download service with more of the Blue Bomber's past adventures -- because even though Mega Man 2 is the pinnacle, there are still several other spectacular sequels we'd love to revisit in Virtual Console form. NESNintendo Land (2003)
This game is old and I can beat it in an hour without losing any lives, but I still play it, it's just so much fun! This game addicted me to the Mega Man series. I suggest you give it a spin or you're missing out!
NESMean Machines (Jan, 1991)
Every time I play Mega Man 2, I just seem to like the game more and more! Everything required to make a platform game incredibly entertaining has been crammed in. The graphics are varied and possess amazing detail. The sprites are probably the best I've seen in a Nintendo game. The sound can't be faulted either with great effects and tunes. But it's the playability that really makes this game so brilliant. The programmers must have spent months racking their brains to come up with the mind-warping puzzles seen here. I'll put this simply. Mega Man 2 ranks as one of the greatest NES games I've ever seen, with unsurpassed addictive qualities. Buy it as soon as possible.
NES1UP! (Feb 05, 2007)
NESThe Video Game Critic (Jul 27, 2002)
Sega fans might noticed MM2's uncanny resemblance to Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis). The traps, robotic enemies, and general style of play are incredibly similar. My only reservations about this game concern the preponderance of "fatal falls", thanks to high altitude platforms that your adversaries can easily knock you off of. I much prefer the ground-based levels, but Mega Man 2 is still first class all the way. Two difficulty levels are including, along with a new password feature.
NESPlayer One (Mar, 1991)
NESRetro Game Reviews (Sep 06, 2014)
Mega Man 2 is a fantastic game all-round. Considering the development team worked on this title in their spare time it's a remarkable achievement and it comes across as a real labour of love. This is a classic NES game that has aged extremely well and it should be experienced by anyone that loves the action / platformer genre.
WiiNintendo Life (Dec 15, 2007)
Mega Man 2's generally noted as the best of the series, and for many good reasons. It's the only Mega Man with a difficulty setting, meaning both new players and veterans alike can enjoy it, and the Robot Master weapons and level designs are also quite good. But the thing most people love the game for is the music: each and every stage has an unforgettable 8-bit tune that sounds really good. If you want a good platformer, look no further than this, this is classic Capcom platforming action at its very best.
NESTilt (Apr, 1991)
NESNES Times (Aug 24, 2006)
It's easy to see why Mega Man II launched the Blue Bomber into superstardom, as this is another great cartridge from Capcom, and tons better than the first game. Everything about this cart from the graphics to the controls are top-notch, and the game itself is definetly classic Mega Man at its finest. Many players have hailed this version as one of the best in the series; indeed few of the later entries were able to top this one. This game is also great for beginners who never played a Mega Man game before. Overall Mega Man II is a stellar chapter in the saga and without a doubt a must-play for all Mega-fans!

NESGemakei (formerly Zentendo) (Sep 21, 2008)
Megaman 2 has everything one could ask for in an NES action title: level design, music, boss battles, tight controls...It's no wonder Megaman 9 is being based off of this specific installment. There are some minor flaws with the game, half of which are more technical limitations of the NES, but this is a quality title for five dollars. Megaman 2 not only solidified the formula of the franchise, it also was a superbly executed 8-bit creation that is relevant today as a testament to exactly what Megaman 9 is here to remind us of: solid design is timeless. If you somehow missed this piece of gaming lore over the past twenty years or if you simply haven't played it in a long time, fork over five dollars and spend an evening (re)discovering one of console gaming's early gems.
NESRandom Access (2005)
I would declare that anywhere that the original Mega Man game failed, this one compensated for it. This may have been the first Mega Man game I ever played (or at least the first one I recall playing), and it changed my gaming life forever. Now I've become a Mega Man fanatic, as anyone who knows me will attest to. So do I recommend this game? Absolutely! It may be tough to find an NES cartridge though, so run down to your local video game vendor and get the Mega Man Anniversary Collection in order to experience the nostalgia goodness of this sapphire-tinged platformer. The only Mega Man game that does it better would be the sequel to this, actually...
NESThe DOS Spirit (Dec 04, 2011)
WiiDefunct Games (Feb 08, 2013)
Mega Man II makes for a great portable game, as players can chip away at especially tough parts little by little. Visually it looks outstanding on the small screen and not enough can be said about the Virtua Console's save functionality. If you're going to pick up any Mega Man game on the Virtual Console, make sure it's this one!
Mega Man 2 is one of the best games I've played in a long time. It has a perfect blend of action and surprise that is usually seen only in games like Super Mario. The first Mega Man was a sleeper hit, but this one is even better, with plenty of new enhancements. Highly recommended!
NESGame Freaks 365 (Jul 04, 2005)
So this game is fun, but easy. This game has a lot of replay value for those who would want to play it over and over, and it is a fun enough that many will. However, for those who just beat a game and move on, this one won’t last long. This game is in many ways a classic, but its longevity is dependent on the mood of the player.

If you haven’t played it, you’re missing out on a cornerstone of videogame history. And if you have played it, you’ve got around 40,319 reasons to play it again.
60 (UK) (Dec 15, 2007)
There's plenty on offer - nine worlds, including super boss dude Dr Wily - but its innate charms are slightly spoiled by the crude gameplay mechanics. Ideal, then, for elderly gamers who want to remember the good old days but not much else.
iPhoneApp Spy (Mar 27, 2010)
Capcom have tried a lot to make this NES classic work on the iphone. It's not the best, but it works, and it's Mega Man II.
iPhoneRandom Access (Jan 25, 2012)
Mega Man 2 has its share of challenges on the NES, but they can easily be overcome with some good reflexes and patience. Mega Man 2 on the iPhone/iPad... well, you pretty much need dumb luck to get through this. The series is known for pixel-perfect controls, and this little program severely lacks the one aspect it actually needs to be good. It's a terrible app. Thank goodness it was on sale for 99 cents, but even that was a waste of valuable money. I could've snagged a sweet Taiwanese RPG with horrifically poor Engrish dialogue for the same amount and had more fun. If this is Capcom trying to revive its tarnished reputation for mistreating the Mega Man franchise, then we're all doomed. Avoid this piece of crap app. That's right: it's a crapp.
