Men in Black: The Game

I actually liked the game quite a bit. The stories and puzzles in the missions are quite good for an action game, and it's perhaps the best mix of action and adventure I have seen in a computer game. Most games of this mixed type lean too heavily on action, and the story suffers. While individual missions in Men in Black lean a little more on puzzle solving in one, more combat in another, the overall mix is perfect. That, combined with its fantastic graphics, cause me to recommend this game despite it's many smaller faults. I would have liked to have seen the product more polished, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Bottom Line: Breathtaking graphics, decent stories. A perfect mix of action and adventure. Controls cannot be reconfigured and some hotspots are too small. Some confusion exists using items.

Once past this annoying section MiB opens up into a playable adventure and manages to hold your attention until the next frustration arrives. Once again poor control and an unhelpful viewing angle ruins the flow of the game leaving your character falling from the cliff edge over and over again. Overall Men In Black is worth checking out, although don't expect it to be in the same class as Resident Evil 2... but then what is?

Erschreckend hoch ist die Anzahl der Programme, die mich in letzter Zeit durch ihre bestechende Grafik blendeten, nur um wenige Minuten später eine Sprosse der Spielspaß-Leiter zu verfehlen. MIB ist so ein typischer Fall. Mag der Prinz von Bel Air durch noch so schicke Rendergrafiken schleichen und lustigen Aliens die Köpfe wegschießen, wenn die Steuerung und Kollisionsabfrage nicht stimmen, hilft das alles nichts.

Men In Black was not a game that I got into or even particularly enjoyed. I found it to be tedious to play and not set up well enough to offer a real challenge to some of the other games on the market. I would not recommend this game to any serious gamers and would think twice before recommending it to a beginner. Its tendency toward linear gameplay and its lack of reward for creative solutions, together with its frustrating control limitations, earn MIB a score of 53.

Auf den ersten Blick gefallen Grafik und Sound, doch schnell ist der Spieler von unlogischen Puzzles, im Pixelgewirr versteckten Schaltern und der ungenauen Steuerung genervt. Atmosphäre mag trotz der digitalisierten Gesichter der Schauspieler nicht aufkommen, was die Motivation - der Film-Lizenz zum Trotz - zusätzlich hemmt. Kein Wunder, daß die Men in Black Trauerkleidung tragen.

Mit einer präziseren Steuerung, einem besser dosierten Schwierigkeitsgrad und weicheren Animationen hätte Men in Black ein feines Spiel werden können. So wie es jetzt auf den Markt kommt, kann es nur mit den atmosphärischen Hintergrundgrafiken überzeugen. Wenn Sie lediglich ein gutes Action-Adventure suchen und das MiB-Ambiente nicht brauchen, sollten Sie sich nach einem anderen Programm umsehen.

Alien-Agenten können die Laserwumme steckenlassen, Men in Black hakt an allen Ecken und Enden. Die Rätsel Marke »nehme Schlüssel, öffne Tür« würden selbst auf Planeten ohne intelligentes Leben bestenfalls freundliches Interesse wecken. Noch deutlich nervtötender sind die Actioneinlagen.Wenn ich Agent J millimetergenau plazieren muß, damit er auf eine kniehohe Kiste springt, möchte ich die Programmierer am liebsten blutrünstigen Außerirdischen zum Geburtstag schenken. Die Kämpfe erweisen sich als öde, weil die Men in Black erstens keine ordentlichen Schlagkombinationen beherrschen, zweitens die Steuerung ungenau ist und drittens die Gegner sowieso entweder viel zu stark oder viel zu schwach sind. Über die Zwischensequenzen bereiten wir lieber den schwarzen Mantel des Schweigens. Diese schwache Umsetzung hat der Film nicht verdient!

All in all, it's quite obvious the time and energy went into set design and mediocre character animations, not into actually making the game work. On the positive side, in the beginning, the sound is fairly interesting. The New York City apartment building seduces you with excellent street sounds of hollow urban ambiance. But then it too goes downhill, with your character's insistent one-liners and the endlessly looped "climatic moment" music churning in the background. In addition, the perspective is flaky, in that when your character is far away, it's difficult for you to see the action taking place in front of him or her.
