Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament

In July, the PC gaming world will discover what playability and speed really mean with the new title from Codemasters, Micro Machines 2 Turbo Tournament! The sequel to the original Micro Machines is even better and faster with new features and options that will turn your PC litteraly into a console.

Overall, Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament is an excellent game. Unfortunately, the '96 update edition is even more complete so it's best to opt for that one, especially when you're fond of creating your own tracks. However, if you don't really care about your own construction kit and cannot find Micro Machines '96, this game comes highly recommended.

The tracks are the most recognisable feature of Micro Machines games - they're a collection of life-sized objects, huge and looming in relation to the little matchbox-sized toys you're driving. These enjoyable, slightly bizarre courses are much more than a setting for the racing action, as you won't stand a chance of winning unless you know exactly what's coming up and where. The vehicles are tricky to control at high speeds and an unexpected turn is almost impossible to catch, making learning the courses off pat the only way to excel. In multi-player games, this means a slow first lap, no-one daring to stray into the unknown too quickly for fear of crashing.

Obwohl sich nicht viel verändert hat, können die MicroMachines wieder auf's neue begeistern. Hier ist kein Netzwerk nötig, um sich mit anderen Spielern auf das Köstlichste zu unterhalten.

There are also around 20 different drivers and opponents to pick. Its such an amazing game! :) My adrenaline level jumped just because I'm thinking about the game at the moment – just imagine what it feels like playing it then! :) The controls are simple – you just need to accelerate, turn and slow down. There are a few modes of playing. You can compete against computer opponents in single races or tournaments, or you can race your friends in head to head mode. The graphics are just sweet and sounds are satisfactory. In conclusion, this is an all around great game that should clearly be given a mark of 5. Strongly recommended!

Still, in today's world of bloated productions and derivative design, titles that can stand on the strength of their gameplay alone are something of a rare commodity. Micro Machines 2 is that kind of game, and for that reason alone, it deserves a look from action racing fans.

Vor gut einem Jahr war Micro Machines witzig und OK, aber beim Aufguß bröckelt der Charme etwas ab. Immerhin: Zusammen mit ein paar Freunden macht's mächtig Spaß. Dafür springt - dem Editor seii dank - noch eine glatte 70 raus; wer nur alleine spielt ziehe 5-10 Punkte ab.
