Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2: WW II Pacific Theater

High immersion factor; some innovative touches; good multiplayer and the Pacific Theater. If you're a fan of WWII era combat flight sims this one is irresistible.

Microsoft has produced a product that looks outstanding, plays well, has authentic sounds, and is fully customizable to fit your flight sim needs. It's not perfect, but it's likely the best World War II era flight sim available. Unfortunately, neither tweaks to the AI, nor new multiplayer modes are planned in an upcoming patch. In fact, at the time of this writing, no patch is planned at all. Despite these minor shortcomings, CFS2 is still an excellent game. When you sit down and climb into the cockpit of your Hellcat, you'll begin to forget about the fact that the game didn't ship with anything but deathmatch or that you can't adjust the caliber of your guns. You'll have loads of fun flying up into the sky, ordering your wingmen around and chasing down Zeroes and Corsairs until you are ready to collapse from exhaustion. Perhaps we are being a little harsh on CFS2 on minor points, but when a fine game has just a handful of issues, they stick out like a sore thumb.

Due to its attention to detail and wide range of features, Combat Flight Simulator 2 has something to offer almost every simulation enthusiast. Besides, it's been too long since the last great Pacific-theater flight sim. Although it's not the definitive WWII flight sim, Combat Flight Simulator 2 was definitely worth the wait.

Combat Flight Simulator 2 biedt je de knapste graphics en intense gameplay maar de systeemeisen zijn wel aan de hoge kant.

L'autre grande amélioration de CFS 2 concerne évidemment le moteur graphique refondu. Si les décors et les paysages de CFS 2 restent de très haut vol, ils s'alignent en tout cas avec ce que la concurrence sait faire. Là où par contre vous allez prendre une claque radicale, c'est dans la modélisation des avions... Elle approche la perfection tellement le souci de détail ou la qualité est respectée. Les avions sont fins et travaillés, les textures respirent le réalisme tandis que le moindre rivet est à sa place sur la carlingue. Ce réalisme se retrouve d'ailleurs lors des combats puisque vous aurez le bonheur de voir les balles trouer cockpit et ailes au millimètre près ou encore de voir exploser puis fumer le moteur de votre avion alors que vous vrillez dangeureusement vers la mer. Bref, une simulation hors norme au niveau de l'esthétique et vous aurez du mal à décoller vos yeux des caméras extérieures au fil des missions. Impressionnant.

Ondanks deze minpuntjes is Combat Flight Simulator 2 toch een haast perfect game voor de fans van het genre, van beginners tot ervaren gevechtspiloten.

For me there's something really boring about jet fighter simulations. But when it comes to the prop planes of the two World Wars, there's nothing that can keep me away. That's why I was so excited to get some time behind the stick of the sequel to Combat Flight Sim. And the fact that this version takes the action to the Pacific Theater is an added bonus. This new version of Combat Flight Sim offers fantastic plane models and great flight modeling for the more hardcore sim fan. But even the less fanatical players will find some rewards here.

CFS2 makes leaps and bounds over its predecessor, and with all the research put into this game, it’s no surprise. To the hardcore flight sim gamer, the series is definitely worth a new look. Few games have ever covered the Pacific theater so well and the overall quality of the game is fairly high, if quite a few steps away from perfection. You know what you like — and if you’re the kind of gamer that loves fast, dirty, simplistic arcade action, you won’t find it here — but Combat Flight Sim 2: WWII Pacific Theater delivers on aviation realism and challenge.

Все могло быть по-другому, учти авторы ошибки буйной молодости. Не судьба. Неплохая летная модель и симпатичная графика загублены слабым интеллектом противников и скучнейшей кампанией. Возможно, в мультиплеере игра и имеет ценность для жанра, но в нашем случае — просто качественный и красивый продукт. И именно этого "просто" я ему простить никак не могу.

Succès complet pour Microsoft, qui réédite l'exploit de nous offrir une nouvelle référence de la simulation de vol militaire historique, faisant ainsi honneur à son prédécesseur, Combat Flight Simulator. Combat Flight Simulator 2 : Guerre du Pacifique apporte suffisamment de nouveaux éléments pour ne pas ressembler à une simple extension réchauffée. Les modélisations sont superbes et une foule de détails (tant graphiques que sonores) vient accroître encore le réalisme, et le gameplay. Certes légèrement plus complexe qu'un Crimson Skies, Combat Flight Simulator 2 est accessible au débutant souhaitant jouer les Têtes Brûlées tout en restant intéressant pour le vétéran du combat aérien. Reste qu'une configuration solide est nécessaire, comme pour toute simulation de vol qui se respecte.

Overall, the game is clean and reminds me of the old Pacific Strike from Origin, though more playable and it doesn't crash my computer. I never played MSCFS1, unfortunately, so I can't say if there's a whole heck of a lot more added besides the new planes and upgraded graphics engine. If you want single-player realism, this game is for you. If you want movie-like dogfights and multiplayer fun, you probably want Crimson Skies. Either way, Microsoft Games comes out on top.

Trotz der hohen Missionszahl bietet das Spiel relativ wenig, ein paar mehr Flieger hätten es auch sein dürfen. Dazu kommt das ewig gleiche Terrain - Wasser, nichts als Wasser. Insgesamt ist der Flight Simulator 2 eine Enttäuschung, so wie sein Vorgänger damals eine echt positive Überraschung war.

Was war denn mit Microsofts Qualitätskontrolle los? Spielen die immer noch Crimson Skies? Ich kann nicht verstehen, wie solche Designschnitzer durchgehen konnten. Ja, ja, die KI war schon beim Vorgänger nicht die cleverste, dafür sah er für seine Zeit aber toll aus und hatte originelle Missionen. Wer gern mit mehreren menschlichen Mitspieler durchstartet, wird sich über die akkurat umgesetzte Flugphysik freuen. Als Mehrspieler-Simulation ist der Combat Flight Simulator 2 deshalb empfehlenswert. Solo-Piloten sollten allerdings besser beim Vorgänger bleiben.
