If you like the board game, you will ABSOLUTELY want this cart. The graphics are more than adequate for a board game translation, and the game is easy to handle and move around in. A nice upbeat soundtrack blends in nicely with the action to provide a very nice package all around.

This will only appeal to board game lovers and groups of players, but it has to be one of the all-time classic games, faithfully converted.

If I was asked to name my favorite board game, I would not hesitate a minute and would reply Monopoly. After all, it is one of the most popular games ever made, so in a way, I would be very out-of-fashion if I had said something else. In fact, I have played so many times with Monopoly that nobody at home wants to play with me as they are all persuaded that I will win whatsoever happens. As a result of this, I had not played Monopoly for a while and quite frankly, I missed it.

Monopoly has always been an excellent strategy game and the Playstation version rocked my world with it's speedy pace and solid AI opponents. If you have anything more than a passing interest in the board game, this version is definitely worth your time and karmic energy. (And, hey, maybe Hasbro will consider putting out Star Wars Monopoly for the PS like they did for the PC).

Of all the board games you could make a videogame out of (and there have been plenty), Monopoly is one of the ones that make the most sense. I rather enjoyed the board game in my youth, but could never get anyone to agree to play it. Frequent excuses: It took too long. It was too much of a hassle. You needed a lot of players to make the game interesting. And for whatever reason, no one liked the idea of leaving the board out and coming back to the game later.

The game is a timeless classic. It plays out very well on the Playstation and hasn't lost its lustre over the years. The game is easy to customize depending on your mood (and time!) and has a good selection of computer opponents - from extremely stupid on up to real estate moguls. It's actually a pretty good real estate simulation made easier to play thanks to the PlayStation. You don't have to dig around for the play money any more or bother setting up the board… just pop in the CD turn on your PSX and it's off to old Atlantic City to buy up some property!

Often called the most popular board game ever, Monolopy has been around since the mid 1930's. Parker Brothers has now released Monolopy for Game Boy. The gameplay is almost exactly like the NES version. You can test your luck and bargaining skills against up to three other human or computer controlled players.

Overall, I wouldn't pay more than $5 for this game. There are versions for other consoles that try to do more with animations, graphics and sound, but they are roughly the same game with similar features, and annoyingly similar drawbacks. Cheaper copies at yard sales or flea markets are a bargain as Ebay auctions and other sites usually sell for more than my recommended $5.

If you like Monopoly but not the mess of a board game, then you should be adequately satisfied with this title. The game has enough options to allow you to play the way you always played at home. I think with a little improvement this could have been a better game that was a bit easier to play. It was really frustrating having to go to a totally different screen just to see who owns what property. On the whole, once you learn to work around the shortcomings, you will get a few nights of family enjoyment out of the game.

In the end, even with all the bells and whistles, Monopoly is Monopoly, and if you don't like the board game, you won't like the computer adaptation. But if you're a fan, Westwood's take on the venerable classic is a great way to compete with players all over the world from the comfort of your own home.

Der Gelegenheitsspieler mit willigem sozialem Umfeld hat mehr Spaß und spart ein paar Mark, wenn er bei der guten alten Brettversion bleibt.

Some games just don't belong on the Nintendo, but at least they didn't make Monopoly for the Genesis or something. I suppose if you're too lazy to pull out the original board game, this cart is just for you. Nothing impressive here, so don't expect much.

If you're unaware of the Monopoly game rules, the instruction manual does a good job of lining them out. If you don't have the instruction manual, Wikipedia's a good place to look them up; the complete rules are entirely too long for me to attempt to relay in this review. Needless to say, if you're a fan of the board game, I'm sure you'll enjoy this adaptation. It's all the fun of Monopoly, with added colorful graphics, and none of the hassle of setting up and putting away the game board and pieces. It's not a great game, but it's a decent way to pass time.

The overly complicated and often clumsy interface will make some wish they'd just pulled out the board game, but there's no doubt that this is Monopoly. Plus, the computer is a good challenge. Perhaps too good?

As far as board games go, Monopoly is one of the best, and this portable port is spot-on. The only things I’d like to have seen is more players (c'mon man, we can handle "Pass the Game Boy" with more than just four people) and an ability to alter the rules, and maybe AI that’s slightly less irritating (as un-lifelike as that’d be). Other than that, Action Video Monopoly is surprisingly worth the three bucks it fetches on eBay, and it's a great cheap game to play with your family on those wonderful four week driving trips to Utah.

Let's get something straight up front: If you want to play Monopoly with another person, you do NOT want to play it on a video game system. Buy the board game for Pete's sake! On the other hand, if you can't find anyone else willing to play this tedious, long game, then this version will provide plenty of computer challengers. I'm not a big fan of Monopoly, but found myself playing this game longer than I thought I would. From what I've seen, you can do just about anything in this version that you can do in the real game.

The Gremlin Interactive designers managed to make the PlayStation version look and feel just like the original Monopoly. They even threw in some cute computer animations of thimbles and statues driving around the board. Had they managed to readily supply you with all the pertinent game information onscreen, the PlayStation version may have been more than a novelty item with little replay value.

PlayStationAll Game Guide
There really is no reason whatsoever for multiple human players to play this game. The game moves way too slow for this to take place. For those of you Monopoly enthusiasts out there without a bunch of friends that feel up to a game, this one is for you. For multiple people that are fans of the game, stick with the classic board. You will have a much better time.

Monopoly for the Master System proves how programming a boardgame can easily go bad. It's the same as the real thing sitting in your closet, the computer can't play worth a damn, the graphics are drab, the sound is infantile, there's simply nothing here worth the original fifty dollar pricetag. Why would I buy this for 75% more (at that time at least) than I would for the actual game? Seriously. My only hope is that my friend Steve doesn't read this.
