Monster Bash Trivia
In the game's story, there is a part where Johnny Dash is wondering who stole his pet dog. "Was it that Jill girl from across the street? If it was, I'll kick her butt again!" This is a reference to Epic's popular side-scroller Jill of the Jungle. Apogee and Epic had something of a rivalry at the time.
The name of this game comes from the Halloween song "Monster Mash", in fact, the main theme is a rearrangement of it.
Monster Bash VGA was planned, but it was canceled because there was not enough time to finish it.
Like most Apogee platformers Monster Bash! is actually a trilogy. The first part of the trilogy came in two versions: a shareware version and a commercial version. The other two parts were released as commercial games only. The names of the three episodes are:
- Monster Bash! Part 1
- Monster Bash! Part 2
- Monster Bash! Part 3
In the game all the pets in the world have been taken away by Count Chuck including your dalmatian pet "Tex" whom you have to rescue. Frank Maddin, the game's creator, also had a dalmatian named Tex, whom reportedly served as the main inspiration behind "Monster Bash"
Monster Bash "Lite" 2.1 was released on July 27th 1993. This was simply a 3 level shareware (As opposed to the regular 10) episode released due to the thought at the time that a 1 meg zip file was too large for people to download. :) This version was since removed from distribution.
