Mortal Kombat: Deception Trivia
Character NamesThe names of two characters in Mortal Kombat: Deception, Hotaru and Shujinko, somehow refer to their character when looking at the original Japanese meaning: Hotaru translates to Japanese as "firefly" (his armor suit is modelled after an exoskeleton of a firefly) and Shujinko translates to Japanese as "main hero" or "protagonist" (he is the main hero of the game).
GameCube ReleaseThe Nintendo GameCube version was released five months after the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions. This was during a time when Midway was trying to decide if they would continue supporting the GameCube with new software. Obviously, they did. Although it sold well on PS2 and Xbox it didn't do very well on GC, which is unfortunate because according to Midway the sales of the game were going to decide Midway's future support for Nintendo.
HavikIf Havik is knocked of the Sky Temple arena's Death Trap, he screams "Aaahh! Man, this is gonna suck!" This line was later given to Taven in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
NightwolfNightwolf uses a fighting style called Val Tudo. The name of the martial art is actually misspelled, it's supposed to be Vale Tudo.
- In the prison stage, characters from earlier Mortal Kombat games can be seen in the cages. These include Johnny Cage, Goro, Jax, Sonya, and Reptile in his original Scorpion/Sub-Zero style costume.
- In Konquest mode, the main protagonist, Shujinko, can do a quest for the ruler of Orderrealm. The ruler states that Shujinko needs to find an agent named Parlos Casina. This character's name is actually a play on the Mortal Kombat motion capture artist and animator Carlos Pesina.
References to the Game
- Scorpion from Mortal Kombat: Deception makes an appearance in the animated series Drawn Together, in the episode The One Wherein There Is a Big Twist, Part II.
- In the movie The 40 Year Old Virgin two characters, David and Cal, are seen playing this game. Strangely enough, one of them is using a Nintendo 64 controller (the other is playing with a game chair).
There are a few exclusive features to the Nintendo Gamecube version: Goro and Shao Kahn were added as playable characters, and more fighters are initially unlocked from the start of the game.
