One of the reasons for the extreme popularity of Dragon Quest series, particularly during its early beginnings in Japan was the high quality manga-like illustration work done for the game by Akira Toriyama, one of the most popular manga artists of all time. Toriyama is most widely known for his martial-arts epic, Dragon Ball but has also worked on games like Chrono Trigger and Tobal.
