MTV Sports: Skateboarding

Somit ist "MTV Skateboarding" nicht nur den Skatern unter den Videospielern zu empfehlen, sondern auch denjenigen die bisher einen Bogen um Sportspiele gemacht haben.

Пора. Откровенно говоря, много о спортивных играх не скажешь. Надеюсь, с моих слов вы осознали, что MTV Sports Skateboarding — это своего рода мини-шедевр. На самом деле на происходящее надо посмотреть немного с другой стороны. Чем является жанр спортивных экстремальных симуляторов сам по себе? Это не футбол, не автогонки, не гольф. Очень сложно придумать в такого рода играх цель, ради которой человек будет тратить свое время и здоровье. Лично я готов променять их на здешние красоты. На фантастические трюки, многие из которых наверняка в реальной жизни никогда не совершить. Великолепный шанс дотронуться до виртуального мира тем, кто интересуется скейтбордингом и не считает слово «скейт» пустым звуком.

MTV:Skateboarding schafft es nicht, Tony Hawk 2 vom Thron zu stoßen. Dazu ist die Steuerung zu ungenau, die Charaktere zu einheitlich und die grafischen Schwächen zu groß. Im Moment empfehle ich trotzdem allen PSX-Besitzern, sich die Activision-Konkurrenz wegen der spielerischen Stärken anzusehen. Für Abwechslung sorgen die verschiedenen Modi und für Skater-Stimmung sorgt der gelungene Soundtrack.

Da warte ich gespannt auf Tony Hawk, und dann schneit mir zuerst das unbekannte MTV Skateboarding auf den Schreibtisch. Ich hatte, ehrlich gesagt, ziemlichen Trash erwartet. Doch das Ding sorgt mit seinem attraktiven Mix aus Unkompliziertheit und Tiefgang für einige wie im Flug vergangene Stunden. Zu mehr als einem Achtungserfolg reicht es aber nicht: Die Präsentation wirkt lieblos, und rundum fehlt es am Feinschliff. Bis Tony Hawk 2 endlich kommt, reicht mir das aber locker.

Un jeu qui reste assez prenant malgré ses quelques problèmes de gameplay et sa réalisation graphique plutôt décevante. Des niveaux variés, des figures très nombreuses et une foule de grands noms du skate, voilà une recette qui plaira sans doute aux fans du genre.

Zum x-ten Mal blättere ich im Handbuch: Wie funktioniert jetzt noch gleich der "Benihana" mit anschließendem "Tailgrab"? Soll ich all diese Tastenbelegungen wirklich auswendig lernen? Nein danke. Da warte ich lieber auf das wohl bald auch für den PC erscheinende Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. Schon dessen PlayStation-Vorgänger zeigte, dass Skating-Spiele gleichzeitig unkompliziert, perfekt animiert und dennoch sehr aufregend sein können. Mein Alternativvorschlag für ein spannendes Skate-Erlebnis: Befolgen Sie den Tipp im Handbuch (!): "Stell dich mal auf ein richtiges Skateboard!". Aber achten Sie auf Ihre Knochen...

So, if you're that impatient that you simply cannot wait for Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, you have no other choice than trying MTV sports: Skateboarding out. I sincerely think that you should wait for Tony, because the playability of the demo promises a far more serious ride. MTV Sports, on the other hand, could prove to be worthy of your attention if you're looking to play a fluffy arcade game (you know, to tide you over 'till you get your paws on Tony Hawk 2)...

Selbst, wenn man nicht unbedingt den direkten Vergleich mit deutlich besseren Skater-Sims zieht, bleibt MTV Skateboarding unterm Strich nur ein bestenfalls durchschnittlicher Genrevertreter. Zu offensichtlich machen sich die ungenaue Steuerung und die vielen unzähligen Bugs im Spielverlauf bemerkbar. So ist es nach einem Sturz auf der Rampe durchaus möglich, dass ihr wie eine schwebende Jungfrau im Nichts gleitet. Selbst der lahmste Sturz in Tony Hawk macht mehr Spaß als dieses Spiel. Daran können auch der Stunt-Modus und der recht gute Soundtrack nichts mehr ändern.

Someone at Dark Black must eat a lot of code, because this is as pooped-out a game as there’s ever been. Perhaps it’s unfair of me to compare this game to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. Then again, if the developers wanted to avoid such analogies, maybe they should have tried to do something even remotely original – or at least attempted to make a rip-off that was playable. The controls are horrible, the game modes are retarded, and the graphics, oh Lord, the graphics. I’ve seen ten-page flipbooks with more frames of animation. Someone should be fired, if not shot, for allowing this game’s release. My condolences to Andy Macdonald, his fans, his friends, and his family.

MTV Skateboarding is a perfect example of cashing in on a recently established genre, yet unlike games like Street Sk8er 2 or Grind Session, it doesn't bring anything worthwhile to the table. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 hits shelves in about a week - do yourself a favor and wait for that one, instead.

Obwohl Inline-Skater und Mini-Roller inzwischen die Fußgängerzonen dominieren, erfreuen sich Skateboards nach wie vor großer Beliebtheit. Dank THQs Spiel können Sie nun auch zum König der Half-Pipe werden, ohne dabei einen Gipsverband zu riskieren. Nose Bluntslide, Double Heel Flip oder Frontfoot Impossible sind nicht etwa schlimme englische Schimpfwörter, sondern nur drei von zahlreichen spektakulären Tricks, die Sie in MTV Sports Skateboarding mit Ihrem fahrbaren Untersatz zustande bringen können.

I imagine Tony Hawk in its first week of development played better than this worthless monstrosity THQ is trying to pass off as a game.
