In the end, if you like action/puzzlers, this one is an absolute must-have. Even if you don't think you like puzzle games, you might want to just make sure with this great game.

Most Jaguar Games that rely on traditional 2D playing fields still hold up today—Rayman, Raiden, Canon Fodder—and so does this. After playing Mutant Penguins, you may wish Atari had prioritized this type of game over the clunky polygonic experimentations that most remember as the touchstone of this console with unrealized potential.

Was sich wie ein harmloses Kids-Game anläßt, erreicht im Lauf der 30 Levels immer vertracktere Dimensionmen, die auch einen geübten Puzzler noch auf vielfältige Weise herausfordern. There are 20 levels of puzzles in all, plus bonus levels. Other features include an option of playing in either Normal play areas or Pandemonium play areas, bonus treasure chests and alien penguins in various disguises - cowboys, indians, musketeers and Romeo and Juliet. Overall, the game looks pretty good and it can actually be rather engaging.

The graphics are okay, but boring sound and annoying control make this a game for Penguin-smashers only.

Each level is so complex, players are doomed to repeat levels many times. In the repetition, players learn the lesson the designers of Mutant Penguins never did: repetition is boring. With average graphics and tedious gameplay, GameTek gives us turkey disguised as a penguin.

Mutant penguins är ett pysselspel, oc hpyssel är det verkligen. Lite för mycket pyssel hur konstigt det än kan låta. Grafiken är lagom bra och ljudet tillräckligt bra för att bara vara lite irriterande, men det känns som spelet saknar struktur.

As if the idea of mutant penguins isn't wacky enough, they are also decked out in cute cowboy and indian outfits. They don't fight back, but they can take a lot of abuse before bursting into gory displays of intestines and eyeballs. This game makes absolutely no sense, and it's annoying to boot! The action is slow and confusing, and even special weapons like dynamite and guns fail to add any excitement. There are some nifty stereo sound effects (on the character selection screen) and some decent tunes reminiscent of Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES, 1993), but otherwise you can chalk this one up as a total loss.
