MVP Baseball 2003 is a terrific, joyful game that is amazing to look at, a delight to listen to and exceptionally fun to play. The player interface is so much easier to navigate through, making this game a nice friendly improvement over previous EASports MLB titles. This is a game that PC baseball fans should enjoy.

While most rookie franchises start out rough and take a year or two to mold into something great, MVP Baseball is already one of the best titles out there this year. There are a few puzzling omissions as far as stats and presentation goes, and there’s the occasional fielding glitch. But the innovative pitching/batting setup is pulled off remarkably. Even fielding isn’t boring in this game. Throw in a great franchise mode and a fun, fast 2 player showdown mode and you’ve got a baseball sim that will last you well past the World Series. A great start for what looks to be another dominant franchise for EA Sports.

For implementing a great new pitching system (that blows every other off the plate), taking risks by omitting several deeply rooted clichés and basically being the first really new baseball game in at least 2 years, MVP Baseball 2003 deserves your attention. Those of you more into the simulation aspects of the sport will be better served with WSB 2K3, but for my money MVP Baseball 2003 is the most important baseball game of the year.

Overall, MVP Baseball 2003 is a solid baseball simulation that brings it all to the table. With realistic graphics and sound, it is easily the best of the 2003 season. Although it has its flaws, you will be playing this one for a long time (or whenever you complete the 30 year franchise mode). Everyone young and old can enjoy MVP Baseball and learn how to beat teams soon enough. Do not pass up the opportunity of missing out on MVP Baseball 2003, you will not regret buying it.

Even though there are a few things wrong with this game, it is still one of the best on the market. Also players have to take into account that this is the first year for this new franchise, and there is a great deal of things that will be worked out for next year’s successor. If you are craving a good baseball game then head to your nearest electronics store and pick it up!

The Franchise mode is impressively deep, if you have the time to devote to it. Offense only wins some games, now, as compared to the Triple Play days. It's possible to have scores of 4-2 as much as having scores of 14-6. This is a great foundation, and, with a little more tinkering, EA could definitely have themselves another division winner in their sports lineup. MVP Baseball is a solid rookie campaign.

The game might not feature the depth of its competitors, and like I said, MVP's not without its faults, but in terms of pickup-and-play ease and excitement and two-player competition, it still proves to be one of your Most Valuable Purchases this season.

As usual, the great EA Sports vs. Sega Sports competition is definitely going strong with MVP Baseball 2003 and World Series Baseball 2K3 both having strong showings. In the end though, MVP Baseball 2003 has the gameplay edge. That being said, those looking for the management side of things will likely prefer Sega's offering. World Series Baseball 2K3 has a more detailed franchise mode that is sure to satisfy the statistic fans out there. Of course, those of you uninterested in the bitter rivalry between these two behemoths may be pleased to check out 3DO's excellent High Heat 2004 for the utmost in realistic gameplay.

Like any rookie phenom, no matter how good they play, they're still prone to making rookie mistakes. The great thing about MVP is, even with those mistakes, it's still one of the best baseball titles to hit the market and finishes a strong second to World Series. MVP's pitcher/batter interface alone makes for thrilling head-to-head play as wannabe hurlers finally need skill to throw strikes, while the Franchise mode will have you simulating games for nights-on-end as you try to find the right combination of players and salaries to bring a title to your hometown.

Overall, MVP Baseball 2003 is a solid addition to the EA Sports line. Normally I'm not big on sports games, but I picked up MVP Baseball 2003 with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised – a must-own for MLB fans.

But lulls in the action seem few and far between in MVP Baseball 2003. EA has created one of the most enjoyable arcade-style baseball games of the year, and even though it could use some refinement, MVP Baseball 2003 is a great first step that bodes well for the future of the new series.

MVP Baseball 2003 is a solid reentry into the baseball market for EA Sports. It should satisfy players who don't care about all the miscellaneous nuances of the sport, or who aren't looking to immerse themselves in a complicated franchise mode.

The bottom line is that MVP shows some serious potential. And I think if they address the issues I mentioned above, and add some serious online committment, this can be a serious contender next year. Really it's just some minor tweaking that has to be done, nothing too bad. The presentation is simply outstanding, minus commentary. I still say it was a solid first effort for EA Sports' newest line.

MVP earns props for looking good and trying something new while delivering solid baseball. High Heat is a much better playing ballgame, but MVP will appeal to baseball fans intrigued by its individuality.

In the end, the choice of game comes down to how you want to play the game. If you are the sort who grabs a baseball game to get down in the trenches and swing that bat, then MVP Baseball 2003 is going to be your game. On the flip side, if you prefer the intricacies of management, World Series Baseball 2K3 is the better choice. Either way, you're getting an excellent game.

MVP Baseball 2003 has several obvious flaws and missing features -- such as the lack of an in-game player editor or a fantasy draft option -- but the prospect of what future versions of the series could be should make any baseball gamer extremely happy and anxious. The game is a handful of important fixes away from being excellent, but we'll have to wait until next year to see if EA Sports is fully committed to making MVP Baseball an A-list game.

Flawed in some areas and strong in others, MVP Baseball remains a promising new start for EA Sports in the realm of digital baseball. The unbelievable look combined with the courageous rethinking of the pitcher- batter showdown elevates it to the previous level of 3DO’s High Heal series. With the right tweaks, you can expect a true fall classic from next year’s version.

MVP Baseball 2003 is a great game, but it is definitely a work in progress. The game will probably be remembered the same way that the original Tecmo Bowl was. It was a fun game with revolutionary features at the time, but in the end it will be known for some underdeveloped features that were corrected and surpassed in later versions.
