Myst IV: Revelation

In the end, none of the game's minor flaws detracts from the overall joyful experience of playing Myst IV: Revelation. There is no doubt this is the most epic game in the Myst series to date.

While not creating anything new, per se, Ubisoft has taken the venerable Adventure Game and, once again, raised it to a new height. If you enjoy adventure games, then you will enjoy Myst IV.

Cyan pokazało, na co naprawdę je stać, bo Myst IV: Objawienie to rozgrywka na miarę pierwszej części serii. Mimo, że została wydana pod koniec 2004 roku, nie pojawiła się dotąd lepsza przygodówka logiczna, nawet Myst V : Koniec Wieków nie miał już tego „czegoś”.

Myst IV is still Myst. It still contains brain-damaging amounts of puzzles, all of which are designed to make you cry if you don't have a large beefy brain. Heck, some of 'em may make you sob even if you do have a big beefy brain. The basic gameplay hasn't changed, but it's been refined to near perfection, and now that they have that out of the way, they're starting to focus on telling stories within that framework, which is something I greatly approve of. This isn't for everyone, but people who haven't played Myst since the original will be surprised at how familiar it all feels while being better in every way. If they can just get the puzzles to a consistent quality, I'll start calling in those people who hate the series to show them what they're missing.

In a nutshell: magnificent! This is my favourite Myst game yet. There are the awesome Ages, with perilous heights, stunning scenery, fantastical creatures. We get plenty of lifts, cable car rides, amazing machines, intriguing and challenging puzzles.

Revelation — слишком большая игра для одной маленькой рецензии. Она настолько большая, что даже не уместилась на одном DVD. Говорить в конце какие-нибудь банальные вещи вроде “лучший квест-с-головоломками на сегодняшний день”, простите, но очень не хочется. Четвертый “Мист”, как ни банально звучит, это гораздо больше чем игра. Это реальный ключ к воротам в параллельную вселенную. Вселенную, где можно натурально жить, но в которой, по большому счету, нет ничего кроме потрясающих пейзажей и умных головоломок. Как получается такой парадокс — черт его, если честно, знает.

There are so many good things going on in this game, I feel confident that every type of gamer will find something to like. Though there were a few puzzles that caused some frustration, all other facets of the game are so well developed and presented that I have confidence these small inconveniences will soon be forgotten. Revelation is a worthy and enjoyable sequel, and if they keep making them this good, this series might just go on for another ten years. Here's hoping!

Being a very traditional adventure game, Myst IV stays true to the rest of the series, but doesn’t really add a lot of changes to the formula. However, even though Myst IV doesn’t break any new ground for the series, it still remains an extremely compelling adventure game with a fantastic presentation and ranks as the best of the series and one of the best of the genre.

So if you like meandering and cogitating, if soaking up the world around you is a pleasure in itself, if immediate understanding is not essential, if kicking back and looking at the sea is an ok thing to do when you haven't got a clue what else to do, if you can forgive the odd puzzle, and if patience is your virtue, then you should definitely make haste to Revelation.

This isn't to say the game is perfect, as no game really is, but as far as adventure games go, it's damn near flawless. It boasts mind-bending, yet logical puzzles, graphics the likes you've never seen in a game of its class and a story worthy of its own novel. Not to mention the highest production values seen in any adventure game in recent memory.

Myst IV: Revelation is truly a work of art on many levels. With its intriguing story, deviously fun puzzles, breathtaking visuals and flawless aural elements, Myst IV is the first game to make me completely forget about World of Warcraft for more than an hour at a time. That, my friends, is no easy feat. Myst IV: Revelation is far and away one of the finest adventure games ever created.

Overall, my experience with Myst IV was even more fascinating than I had anticipated. The few minor quirks, and high hardware demands, can almost be expected in an endeavor of this scope. And while there were times that I wanted to tear my hair out over a few of the more annoying puzzles, I have to say that I finished the game with a greater deal of emotion and satisfaction than in any other game I've played.

Revelation is an excellent, but very difficult game, unfortunately the gamer that would fully appreciate it is, I am afraid, almost extinct. But, if you've passed a course or two in anger management and are not afraid to travel the ages of Tomahna, Spire, Haven, and Serenia with nothing more than a mouse and your functioning gray matter, you are sure to enjoy Revelation and the search for the prodigal sons of Atrus.

Myst IV Revelation macht einfach Spass, vor allem wenn man die Vorgänger liebte und sich allgemein mit dem Thema Rätseln beschäftigt. Rätseleinlagen sehr gut kombiniert mit Grafik und Sound. Selten gibt`s auf dem Spielemarkt ein so gelungenes Spiel, welches den Fokus auf mehrere Aspekte legt. Wer noch kein Knobel-Spiel besitzt, aber sich gerne mit der Materie beschäftigen möchte, der ist mit Myst IV Revelation sicherlich nicht auf dem falschen Dampfer.

The "Ages" of Myst are the playground of the adventure game fanatic. The game play requires problem-solving skills and patience beyond some players' capacity. There is no "immediate" reward in the series, but solving puzzles create a wonderful feeling of accomplishment in a player who desires more from the gaming experience than blowing away Ewoks. Myst IV is a wonderful continuation of the series -- or a great gateway game for those who want to get into the series -- and I highly recommend it for fans of the adventure genre or people looking for a new experience in gaming.

True, spending hours solving puzzles and reading page after page of journal entries isn't everyone's bag. Interestingly, Myst IV is the first game in the series that was developed at Ubisoft Montreal, a studio that's best known for making Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Nevertheless, the developers at Ubisoft Montreal have produced in Myst IV a sequel that carries on the series' high standards.

C'est exactement ce qu'il se passe ici : Myst 4 offre une expérience de jeu rarement atteinte en termes d'immersion dans un monde virtuel grâce à une surenchère technique parfaitement maîtrisée. Pour être tatillon, on peut reprocher à ce quatrième volet de grignoter sur notre imaginaire en nous imposant une certaine vision des choses au travers de l'amulette magique, mais ce serait bouder le plaisir de retrouver la série plus belle que jamais.

But for all that, my feeling of success intensified vastly after having worked out a solution on my own. Although I cannot say that I was converted I would still like to recommend this game not only to the fans of the series but to those in particular, who have resisted the "temptation" up to now. Try it! You don’t need to have played the prequels to be able to immerse yourself in "Revelation". Even though, I wasn’t able to acquire a taste for every aspect of the game, the proverbial revelation for me refers to one of the most beautiful gameworlds I have ever had the pleasure to roam.

While there are those that will inevitably complain about the conversion from the PC to the Xbox and how much resolution and control is lost, Xbox gamers will find much to be awed by in the true sense of the word. And the $20 price tag makes it that much more compelling. People who favor puzzles and exploration – or those who’ve long since forgotten the classic PC game series in the move to consoles, cushy club chairs and big screen TVs would do well to rediscover that Myst magic.

If you’re looking for a classic point-and-click adventure chock full of excellent puzzles and a great story then Myst IV is a game you should consider buying. A few imperfections aside, the game is an enjoyable experience for those willing to put up with its slow pace and vast locales.

Your enjoyment of Myst IV will depend upon what type of gamer that you are. If you appreciate good mental exercise and tough puzzles, and have the patience for a slower pace of gameplay, then Myst IV is definitely worth your time. Keep in mind that the game is more in its element on a PC, though. If you lose patience with games after a couple of hours of play, though, Myst IV is definitely not for you. It is a very rewarding game for those who put the time and effort into it, for others it will be far too slow and frustrating.

Did I mention that Myst IV Revelation is only $20? Well with that being said if you are a fan of the series or of the adventure genre then this are definitely worth your hard earned twenty bucks. But if you just don't want to use your mind any more then you have to then this game is probably not for you. For me I found it quite enjoyable and for twenty bucks it just seems like an extremely good deal.

As a fan, I give this an 8.75. As someone who realizes that the core gameplay is largely a retread of games from 15 years ago, I have to lower it, but that doesn't mean that I didn't have a good time.

Tudo isso se soma em uma incrível experiência diferente da maioria dos games. Lenta e contemplativa, a viagem do jogador mistura iguais doses de apreciação do ambiente e raciocínio. Como um vinho, "Myst IV" deve ser degustado, e não entornado em um gole. Aqueles com interesse e paciência de descobrir - e não simplesmente tentar correr para ver o final - serão recompensados com um dos mais envolventes games de todos os tempos.

Het spel ontrafelt zich als een lange, prachtige reis die je weken kan bezig houden tot de climax van het spel zich aandient. Ook daar scoort Myst 4, want het spel 'eindigt' echt. En meteen is duidelijk dat - ondanks vele imitaties' - er maar één spel is dat de Myst-ervaring brengt, en dat is Myst zelf. Dat het spel gemaakt werd door de heren die ons voorheen enkel Splinter Cell brachten, doet dus geen afbreuk aan de magie van de reeks.

Die üblichen Kritikfloskeln wie "zu steril" oder "viel zu langweilig" darf man 'Myst IV' sicherlich nicht anführen. In diesem Bereich hat sich erfreulicherweise einiges getan. Leider kann man sich aber noch immer nicht völlig in der ansonsten so schönen Welt fortbewegen. Das Klicken von Screen zu Screen ist nicht nur konventionell, sondern stellenweise auch etwas mühsam und träge. Die fast durchwährend schöne Grafik, eine professionelle, akustische Musikuntermahlung und äusserst talentierte Schauspieler retten 'Myst IV' vor dem Stempel mit der Aufschrift "veraltet". Weiterhin lebt die geschriebene Welt durch die atmende Flora und Fauna mehr denn je, womit selbst die immer noch hohe Anzahl an spielrelevanten Texten ein bisschen kompensiert werden kann.

Despite it's clear quality, Myst IV: Revelation just might not do it for contemporary gamers. Games have come a long way since Myst, and while that doesn't always mean they've gotten better, you cannot get around the fact that the gameplay here feels dated. The puzzles are tough and well-designed, but they're still totally obtuse. If you're the type of person who runs for the walkthrough every time you can't figure out where Lara has to push a stone block, you're not going to like this game.

Die Storyline verknüpft endlich offene Handlungsstränge sämtlicher Vorgänger miteinander. So begeben Sie sich diesmal auf die Spuren der abtrünnigen Brüder Sirrus und Achenar aus der ersten Episode. Myst 4 bietet so viel Story wie nie zuvor und präsentiert diese zeitgemäß in zahlreichen Zwischensequenzen statt als dröge Tagebucheinträge.

However, despite some improvements, the navigation is simply too clunky and unnatural for Revelation to appeal to anyone but fans of the series. With technology fast improving, it's time the team at Ubisoft took a few more risks with the formula and capitalized on the opportunities that weren't present at the time of Myst's inception—interactive worlds, lifelike physics, advanced artificial intelligence, etc. In the meantime though, Myst IV serves at least as a pleasant reminder that there's more to videogames than "ka-blammo!"

Ich kann micht nehr mehr daran erinnern, wann ich mich das letzte Mal bei einem Adventure so gelangweilt habe. Das uralte Render-Konzept hat sich mittlerweile selbst überlebt, nur bis zu den Myst-Machern scheint sich das noch nicht herumgesprochen zu haben. Ich will kein aufgeblasenes Rätselheft ohne spielerischen Nährwert, sondern logische und spannende Rätsel, die eine interessante Geschichte erzählen. Lässt man die nervigen Knobeleien beiseite, bleibt viel heiße Luft im nichts. Ehrlich, da gucke ich doch lieber aus dem Fenster.

It hurts deep inside my soul to see this pockmark on the face of the Myst franchise. It's not as if the game itself is bad, it's that the technology is so horribly mangled that the delicious puzzle-laden universe is almost unplayable on Xbox.
