I'm sort of torn about Aero Gauge. It has a lot going for it, solid control, good concept and some excellent replay value, but the bad championship mode, limited tracks and vehicles and horrendous music really hurt what could have been an excellent package. Rent before you buy.

Players will find a solid racer with the added thrill of being in the air. With tournaments, multi-player and time trials, you get a standard set of game modes. Variety is limited by a lack of tracks. The racing in AeroGauge can be fun, but it's not as involving as we'd like. Frankly, we wanted more courses, more cars and more things to do.

Total! (Germany)

Aero Gauge tries to be Wipeout and F-Zero and fails on both accounts.Sporting a graphic look that can best be described as first generation and a sense of speed that fails to impress, the game doesn't compensate with an over-abundance of vehicles and tracks. On the bright side, control is tight and there's really nothing exceedingly bad about the game, but $60 is a lot to pay for mediocrity.

GameSpot
As one might imagine from looking at it, Ascii's AeroGauge runs basically along the same conceptual lines of play as Psygnosis' Wipeout XL or Acclaim's Extreme G: futuristic racing vehicles competing on futuristic tracks. The big difference between AeroGauge and those titles, however, is that in AeroGauge you can fly your ship high in the air - independent of the courses (except when bottlenecked into tubes) - no power-ups or weapons are available, and ... it's not very good.

What an absolute nightmare. Aero Gauge couldive been a perfect title to fill the wait for F Zero X, but instead weire subjected to an exercise in how not to develop a racing game. There are only four tracks and a handful of vehicles. Add to this the ridiculous turbo system which must be used to win, and you end up with a game whichill have you pulling your hair out. This game has all the markings of a developer which has tried to exploit the lack of N64 racing titles by releasing a sub-standard game.
