Für die ausgehungerten RPG-Fans unter den noch verbliebenen Nintendo 64 Spielern stellt das Abenteuer rund um den übermütigen, jungen Magier sicherlich eine kleine Offenbarung dar, über die technischen Mängel sehen sie lässig hinweg. Steht jedoch noch eine andere Konsole im Regal, so gibt es massig Alternativen zu Aidyn Chronicles , die um einiges ausgereifter und hochkarätiger sind.
Einerseits ein Spielsystem mit unglaublich viel Tiefgang das jeden RPG Fanbegeistern müßte, eine Story die gelungen ist und den Spieler in allerlei Verwirrungen, Rätsel und Überraschungen verstrickt und dann mit einer Grafik die man eigentlich schon seit Jahren nicht mehr sehen möchte. Trotzdem kann man das Spiel RPG Strategen und Fans empfehlen. Vor allem dann wenn ihnen der inhaltliche Teil am Herzen liegt. Wer auf Kämpfe, Charakter pushen und zahlreichen Möglichkeiten des direkten Eingriffs steht wird trotz der schlechten Präsentation eine lange Zeit gefallen an diesem Spiel finden. Wer auf feine Optik und tolle Effekte steht ist hier völlig fehl am Platz. AC hätte ein mehr als würdiger Abschluß der N64 Geschichte sein können. Aber eben nur hätte...... Ich bedanke mich für eure Aufmerksamkeit. ;-)
To sum up, despite its slow pace, the combat portion of the game is likely it's best asset, but the overall game experience is hampered by all of the aforementioned issues, resulting in a C grade product that could've scored a lot higher. If you're not an RPG fan, then be sure to pass on this title altogether as it won't convert you. But if you dig old-school RPGs, and you own a N64, you may try renting this game. Just be sure you own a Controller Pak or your epic quest will end prematurely.
Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage attempts to bring hardcore old-school role-playing to the aging Nintendo 64 hardware, but an unstable mix of ambitious ideas and poor execution makes Aidyn a case of too little, far too late.
You have to hand it to a development house that's ambitious enough to follow up a puzzle game with a role-playing game--a genre that most North American developers leave to Japanese game creators. One of the final third-party games for the Nintendo 64, Aidyn Chronicles is the second game from H2O Entertainment, the creator of the excellent N64 puzzler Tetrisphere. Although ambition and 50 cents will often only buy you a cup of coffee in the games industry, H2O has made a good first effort in this difficult category--albeit one that's severely undercut by a few key problems.
In all honesty it is strange to be so hard on a game that manages to succeed on so many levels. Every time I started playing Aidyn Chronicles I was excited to travel to a new area, as some of the environments are quite unique. I enjoyed advancing my characters, the system of advancing skills and abilities by spending experience points works well. And I looked forward to watching the next cut scene of character interaction, which are animated well and do a nice job of advancing the story, even with the complete absence of voice-overs. However, none of these aspects of Aidyn Chronicles come even close to making up for the horrible combat you must experience to reach all of the good stuff. H2O Entertainment has succeeded in enough RPG features to show gamers they have potential, but in the end, all anyone can do is wait for the arrival of the Gamecube, and hope that Nintendo and THQ give H2O Entertainment a second chance.
Why, oh why have the N64's traditional RPG fans been forced to spend years waiting hopefully, only to be stuck with a game like this? Yes, this is an old-school fantasy RPG. Yes, you get to spend hours upon hours gaining experience points and leveling-up in hopes of creating an unbeatable party of characters. Yes, there is a massive, epic journey ahead for those who have the patience for the slowly developing story. But far too much of the game simply clunks along, obscuring the positive aspects in a haze of fog, blocky character models, and stuttering framerates. The battle system is the key to any good RPG, and Aidyn Chronicles' awkward combat system barely serves its purpose. If you are a diehard RPG fan who just can't live without Aidyn Chronicles, you'll probably learn to forgive its many flaws for the rewarding depth it offers. But personally, I'd rather spend my time on another game that's easier on the eyes and less trying on my patience - ANY other game
Rien de très original, sauf peut-être la masse de défauts. Entre autres, les scènes de combats sont catastrophiques et injouables. Un cercle limite les mouvements, empêchant de frapper un ennemi éloigné. Mais le gros point noir, c'est l'ambiance néantissime. Pas de voix, des musiques mal accordées. On s'ennuie atrocement.
I had high hopes for Aidyn Chronicles, and while I wish it were possible to say that it met them . . . I cannot. With a plodding engine, an empty world, and a battle system that needs an order of magnitude speedup, Aidyn Chronicles just isn't enjoyable enough to spend time with unless you simply must play every RPG known to man. [Yeah, I'm sure that's more than just me.] However, the story is solid, and the characters, while somewhat generic, are interesting. Perhaps H2O can put out another, more impressive game in the series for a system that will let them do what they want in terms of scope and design? Until then, you'll have to look somewhere else for your quality N64 RPG fix.
