Working on what was a great concept for a game, Blues Brothers 2000 falls a bit short of my expectations (but still is quite entertaining). Controlling your character is fairly simple, and the hardest thing will be timing your punches and other attacks. The game takes the shape of an adventure game mixed in with some puzzle-type obstacles. Blues Brothers 2000 is a game that is most definitely rental material for any fans of the series, or anyone that enjoys Mario-type games.

Blues Brothers 2000 is a very simple game to learn and can be a lot of fun. It is a little bit of everything sandwiched together with a little bit of rhythm and blues. The game is suitable for all ages, and will entertain most N64 fans. If you have seen the movie then you are familiar with the characters, and if not then come and meet the Blues Brothers, they need your help to make it to the battle of the bands. The Joystick is up.

When it's all said and done, Blues Brothers 2000 is not a horrible game. Generic perhaps, but not horrible. Titus seems determined to bring itself out of the pit of shame it's been lounging in for some time now. This game is indeed a step in the right direction, but is by no means better than half of the platform games in the already crowded N64 genre. If you are new to the system and would like a simple and amusing introduction to the world of 3D gaming, then maybe give this one a rent. Otherwise, I'd steer clear this holiday season when it finally ships to retailers and stick to the other surefire hits (*ahem* Banjo-Tooie *ahem*) to fill your future platforming needs.

After playing, I felt like a victim of a sick joke. Sure, I laughed, but is this really how we want our video games to make us feel? I am still shaking my head, trying to dislodge the image of Elwood stepping left to right to learn his “dance moves,” waving his big ol’ mitten-like hands about ineffectually. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this was supposed to be entertaining. While not a terrible game, Blues Brothers 2000 suffers in comparison to similar games on the market. I wouldn’t buy this one, but I would rent it for a day or two just to witness its weirdness.

The 3D-action category is a competitive one on the Nintendo 64, and Blues Brothers lacks any special features that would make it noteworthy. Its average gameplay and uninteresting levels create a game that doesn't warrant attention. Blues Brothers 2000 isn't a horrible game overall, but there are plenty of other great 3D platformers out there for the N64.
