FIFA 99 is a fine addition to an excellent series and a game with few glaring weaknesses. With superior graphics, depth and playability, it's a top-notch title through and through. So, with superb soccer games from EA Sports and Konami available for both the N64 and Playstation, which is the best of the bunch? You didn't REALLY think I was going to fall for answering that question, did you? I strongly encourage you to try as many of them as you are able. You're almost certain to find one that fits you like a glove. We should be so lucky in all of the other sports.

FIFA 99 a bien su évoluer. Il est beau, riche et complet. Que demander de plus ?
This is a great game. You may even like it if you don't like sports or soccer games in particular. I'm not a big fan of watching it on TV but I love to play this game. Worth buying.
FIFA games must be huge money-makers for EA, as the multitudinous releases would seem to indicate. Fortunately for gamers, FIFA 99 makes significant improvements to the series. Better graphics and better sound, plus some of the most realistic soccer action to grace a video screen guarantee that players won't be disappointed.
It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Konami's ISS series, but I have to admit that FIFA 99 is right up there on the winner's podium for best console soccer game. FIFA still doesn't have the smoothness of ISS, but its presentation, incredible number of moves, strong AI, and beautiful medium/hi-res graphics run circles around Konami's game. The new custom league modes are great and make for an engaging one-player experience, but hook up three more controllers and you'll be in soccer heaven. Control is much tighter than in its predecessor, but I'm still waiting for that one soccer game that combines the smoothness of ISS with the options and presentation of FIFA. A definite upgrade from World Cup 98 in all respects (player creation mode, league play), but owners of the previous FIFA game will want to look for some kind of a trade-in offer. Good job, EA.
Nintendo Power Magazine
It's the best soccer effort to date, but if you own previous FIFA games, you may want to wait for a revolutionary change, not an evolutionary upgrade.
While FIFA 99 is the most in-depth soccer sim to date on the Nintendo 64, it still faces stiff competition in Konami's arcade-style International Superstar Soccer Pro '98. Deciding which game is best for you really boils down to what floats your boat. Konami's game may look a bit slicker and play with more robustness - but if your definition of a great soccer game begins and ends with dead-on realism, you can't go wrong with FIFA 99.
