Summary

Could Robotron possibly get more hyper? Yes!

The Good

It is 100% faithful to the original Robotron 2084 arcade game concept. Sometimes you just want to immerse yourself in a blur of moving objects and a thumping techno beat. And the two controller setup allows for a multiplayer co-op mode you couldn't get anywhere else.

The Bad

The game is only playable when you are in a certain mood because there is a good deal of repetition. Most of the levels feel exactly like the one before it until you get up to over 50. Then at about level 55 things start getting extremely hard. Just finishing a level at that point is a major accomplishment. The level save feature doesn't seem to work right. It always takes you back a few levels. And if you don't have enough extra lives forget it. It's almost better not to save at all.

The Bottom Line

Take the original Robotron 2084 arcade game and run it through a 3D engine. Run around a flat grid avoiding enemies and what they shoot at you and other ground elements. You do however want to run into your family members to rescue them. They are the major source of points. Shoot quickly as time is clicking down and the longer it takes the harder they are to defeat. Turn up the volume and let the techno beat run through your body as you achieve a zen like state. Plug in a second controller and let one person do the running and another do the shooting. Then make sure you put the game away for a couple of days or weeks. It stays fresh that way.
